After waiting several weeks, I was told I'd need to go on extension. Each time I called for an update, I was told it would be another week and then another week. Not wanting to go on extension and potentially wait weeks or months longer to file, I finally picked up my documents. That's when I learned that my return had not even been started. I brought everything to another CPA, who completed the return quickly and before the tax deadline. I understand that it can take a little longer as a new client, and CPAs are busy during tax season, but that is the nature of the business and something a CPA should know how to manage efficiently. If he was unable to take on my return, I would have preferred to know that upfront rather than having my documents sit there for weeks without the return being started. I found that inconsiderate of my time and, frankly, misleading. The tax preparation process seemed about as organized as the office itself. Needless to say, I did not return.
