Updating my review just to say that the cafe is a decent place to get some work done in the day time!

Emm....so Box. Is it a pub, is it a club, is it a music venue? Well it seems to be all three all…read morecompacted into one stretched out venue. I've been to better places and there's only a few wee things that makes it any good is the company I'm in, it's free to get in and there's sometimes some awesome bands playing. I normally only end up in here late at night and I have to say that the music isn't too bad. I felt I was at my choir at one point with some of the tunes, some Hall & Oates and Harry Belafonte. Shake shake shake señora, shake it all the time. Oh yeah!!!! So much dancing was to be had. Dancing you say? In a bar? Well, it's where ever you can squeeze in to pull some shapes. Most happens up at the back, where I found myself last Saturday night. The drinks are pretty rank to be honest and after a certain time they start serving them in a plastic cups. I thought I would be safe with a coke but alas, oooft! I don't know if I was still getting over the last coke in Brewdog. Eugh! Anyhoo, the toilets are what you expect for a club/bar/venue, nae soap and bring your own toilet paper. I have seen some good bands in here, Three Card Trick are awesome and do play here often. It is weird though having the stage in the window, if the band turned around and put up a red light, it could be Amsterdam. Roooooooxanne! Anyway, if your night's going well and you wanna keep the party going, squeeze yourself in here. You'll be lucky if you get a seat, so probably best to go early. Don't expect anything wonderful, clientele is a mix of Indie kids, students, lots and lots of them young ones, I've heard they sometimes get a bit feisty, so be on guard. Make sure you're in awesome company and you'll guarenteed a good night. Not a great night, remember you're still in Box.

Press Bar, a Glasgow drinking spot synonymous with journalists and journalism - hence the name…read more While over the years that industry has changed markedly, therefore Press Bar's clientele also has, it's lost none of the charm I first encountered in 2005. It has the feel of a proper neighbourhood bar, which always warrants a thumbs up from me, especially in this day and age. The surrounding area seems to have been constantly undergoing developments and changes for as long as I can remember, but the Press Bar, fundamentally, hasn't changed much. On offer you have the usual selection of drinks, but there is the nice addition of a guest ale or two - on my most recent visit it was Harviestoun's delightful Bitter & Twisted. Great value too. The staff are lovely - the prices are reasonable - and it's a nice wee bar to have a few quiet pints. I like!

It's hard not to admire the Press Bar…read more Standing defiantly in an area full of new builds, this inconspicuous little pub used to be a thriving hub for journalists. Not only did it attract staff from the old Herald building next door, but rather from across the entire writing scene in the city. Those, of course, were the days in which newspapers were thriving. These days, the whole atmosphere surrounding the impression is grim and socialising plays less of a part than it once did. For those who remember the glory days, the Press Bar remains a nostalgic nod towards better times. Personally, I'm just pleased to see a good, solid old school bar remain in this area of the city.

First of all, get something to eat here, for the mighty MEATHAMMER inhabit the kitchen, and they have burgers of immense goodness and size. For my money, Meathammer consistently produce the best and most imaginative burgers that Glasgow has to offer, and at a decent price too. The staff in here are a lot more helpful and cheery and just downright nice than I remember from the last time I was in here. Not one person I spoke too seemed to be put out by any of my daft questions about the food, or the seating outside, or the football on the telly. The space itself is pretty amazing. It's a lot bigger than you would expect upon entering down the fairy light laden hallway - and there's a huge beer garden at the back with several big comfy leather couches - would be ideal for watching the football on, if it hadn't been raining earlier. The beers on tap are nice and cold; I had a pint (or 3) or Innis and Gunn and really enjoyed it. Side note that may be totally World Cup related - during the half time break in the football, they turned the sound of the TV off and put on music. A nice relief from having to listen to the "pundits" do their thing and bore you to tears. On the whole, The Record Factory seems to be a nice change to the other bars in this part of town, and I'd definitely return again. Especially for the food. Oh, the glorious food...

We were there…read moreto see a band so spent most of the time in the band room which isn't a bad space - there's some seats and it's a pretty decent size room. It is hard to find though if they have the shutter down on the room (they apparently open up this shutter to the main room but if it's closed you need to walk through a pool room and past the toilets to find it). The main room didn't seem overly busy for a Saturday night but maybe it picks up later on. It really has a cheap student vibe to it which isn't necessarily a bad thing - it's just not my thing. I didn't visit the toilets or go to the bar so I can't comment on these aspects. I would return here in future if I had a reason - otherwise, I can't this being a place I'd visit for a drink when there are other places nearby that are much nicer.

Been here a zillion times, though as with clubbing in general it's not really on my radar as much…read morethese days. If you're into banging, yet credible dance music, then Sub Club is probably still your best bet in Scotland. It's won various awards over the years, none of which I can remember. To be honest, I just don't get the exceptionally repetitive thudding of Saturday nights, and as good as Optimo was, once the style of music they played inadvertently became trendy, it lost much of what made it good in the first place. I've been to a couple of Drum n Bass nights which have been pretty good, but possibly not worth the headaches and the ringing in your ears afterwards. I did once get a shot at DJing in here on a Subcity night, and despite it being practically empty, the fact that I got everyone dancing to my favourite TLC tune, summed up the club for me. The punters are pretty open to anything, and don't give a toss as long as it sounds good. You can't ask for much more than that in a club.
