Popped along here on Sunday afternoon to check it out also claim my prize of two free meals courtesy of the fabulous Yelp of course! Yus.
Never been to this venue before & in all the years I have been to the Barras I never even knew this place existed...shame on me. It was a brilliant (if maybe a wee bit too small...) place for this street food festival.
I actually expected a different layout to what there was ~ I thought the food stalls would be in carts outside the venue & the seating/drinks area would be inside. Instead everything was crammed inside. On a rainy day this would have been brilliant but on a hot day (such as it was) it did feel a bit stifling at times with the heat/smells/music/people, but that's just a personal thang ~ I tend to feel a bit claustrophobic in big, busy crowds. So myself & my boyfriend tried to find somewhere both cool & a bit quieter to stand.
We started off with cocktails from the KILTR bar ~ mine was some strawberry concoction & my boyfriend had the non-alcoholic one. I really liked mine but unfortunately my boyfriend wasn't a fan of his. Then it was FOOD TIME! I managed to track down the main dude re.my free meals & he kindly put my orders in with the food stalls. I walked around twice & decided on the Kimchi burger from London's Kimchi Cult and the Fire In Babylon Roots Kitchen's channa aloo curry. I was going to have the curry for myself & the burger for my boyfriend but unfortunately he wasn't feeling well at this point so he couldn't face eating anything, shame for him because the burger was lovely ~ wish I'd asked for the cheeseburger version as I do love my cheese but even still without it was super tasty. The curry was also super delicious; I could've easily eaten more of it, yum.
I quickly got a pint from the William's Brothers guys before leaving as I felt bad trailing my boy around when he wasn't feeling well, if he had've been well then I would've stayed longer & tried some more stalls as everything looked yummy.
Great idea & I really hope these guys do another one, maybe in a bigger venue next time. I didn't really understand the whole drinks tokens thang?? Seemed a bit strange when food stalls were accepting money but the bars weren't?...anyway, all in all a top event & many thanks again to Briony/Yelp & the KILTR guys for my lovely food/drinks, it was much appreciated. read more
