I love the food show, I really do. In fact my whole family does. Last October when I just moved to Glasgow I happened to win tickets, so Mum and I went along but we didn;t really appreciate it fully, as we had just moved me in, so were pretty tired. Having said that, Sunday afternoon seems to have a lot more freebies!
This year, my brother went to see all the alochol on offer, my Dad went for cheese and fish and my Mum and I had a mission to get a book signed by Mary Berry. My grandma wanted that to be my Christmas present, so we made sure of it. Now the signing was at 11.30, the lovely people in WHSmiths, said Mary would only sign her own book, not a GBBO one, fair enough but to queue at 11. By 10:50 Mum and I noticed people started to queue, so we joined and were around number 15. Yes, it sounds crazy, but by 11:05 they had closed the queue. So around 100-200 books to be signed. A lot of people were upset by this, especially if they had been at the 10:30 demonstration... Plan accordingly if you want stuffed sign next year.
The queue moved quickly, Mary is lovely and does not look 80! She signed my book and I was honestly so happy.
My brother loved the cocktail class, admittedly he is a bartender so he didn't learn anything. But he did comment on how well organised the class was, the great value for a tenner. I loved the jam jar tip to both shake, make and drink a cocktail in. The diageo company was onto a winner with having plastic bottles to take your cocktails home in.
I finally got to try 3 Sisters Bake and damn was that a good brownie!
SECC do a great job, but they could do with more seating and coffee options. Also, this is more BBC, but less gimmicky stuff and furniture sellers. It would also be great if a venue was Scottish to have a scottish sticker on the stall. read more
