Yes I suck, yes I cut a shoddy figure on the driving range in my cowboy shirt, charity shop sunnies (a pound man, a pound!), messed up jeans and grubby old trainers, next to the plaid clad, wrap around shade brigade.. but hell if I don't enjoy whackin' 'em balls! Without having much previous experiences of other driving ranges, it's a bit difficult for me to rate it in context. I would however say that it tics all the customer service boxes and offers a 'sh*t, that'll do' type service. Clean, friendly, reasonable priced (it think) at £3.50 for a small bucket, £5.50 for a large, it's a decent enough wee place to whack, slice, hook, crack (back)... rubbish, away a few mins of your day. A week later I email them to find out whats going on, you get an automated response to say that they normally reply in a day, 2 days later and I now have another automated email saying they are sorry that they are so busy I wont use again - absolutely not. I must admit, I'm not a huge fan of golf clubs. I just can't get my head round their elitist…read moreattitude and petty rules. As a twenty something year old woman, I take great issue with being instructed to carry my drinks from the bar to the table on a tray, particularly when the table is only a foot away and all I bought was a glass of water. I feel particularly daft doing this while wearing plaid trousers and a brown cord flat cap being forced to adhere to the club's strict dress code. However, I do like Ralston Golf Club. I have attended a few functions here over the years and it is nicer than your average place to tee, or whatever it is golfers do. The club is framed by huge windows which is particularly pleasant when the light streams in on a sunny day. There is also a courtyard when the weather is nice enough to sit outside. Drinks at the bar are also very cheap which is always a point scorer in my book.

As a non-golfer, I'm afraid I cannot comment on the quality of the course here, but as clubhouses…read morego, this place is top notch. A grand building to look at from the outside, the exterior is matched by a classy interior which represents a fantastic venue for weddings, christenings, birthday parties and the like. What's more the food on offer, although not spectacular, is good hearty fare, while the members in here tend to be a little less old-school than elsewhere. Indeed, I swear I once even saw a woman wearing trousers in here. Honestly, I'm not making it up.

The quality of the course can vary but it is fairly satisfactory at this present day. One of the only downsides is the locker room because things have moved on since the 1970's so the golf club would look so much better if it was improved like the bar. The vast majority of members here are all really cheery (hopefully that will continue) and the boys in the pro shop are extremely well natured giving top quality lessons. A perfect club for beginner golfers or professional golfers with a fantastic course home to breathtaking views of the Clyde, Loch Lomond and Glen Fruin.

The personnel seems very friendly for what I have seen so far.They make newcomers feel very welcome and explain the rules as soon as you are ready to make your first step towards a successful golfing relationship. There are a few Golf Pros available to get lessons from. You are able to go for % discounts when going for a Limited Golf ball "Membership" card: Pay £15 for a pre-loaded card and get 10% off the individual prices for the amount of golf balls you choose from. I think I pay around £3.20 for about 50 balls. You can choose from 20/50/70 balls. The socializing facilities like their coffee shop and sitting area are very standard. I guess it is mostly used for wives waiting for their husbands to be finished with their "free time" :-) I also saw the younger generation getting their training to become a Tiger Woods one day! The bays are pretty standard. You still need to put the balls on the tee yourself. I know this sounds lame, but having been used to a mechanical operating system where the balls just appear.....then, yes, you can get spoilt. However, on a positive note, the bays are large and give you enough space to maneuver around. There is a hook for your jackets etc. Sadly you are not allowed to take your golf bag onto the Range - ONLY your clubs! All types of golf shoes are allowed. The balls are dispensed from a very modern machine that is explained to you when you get your introduction. There is also a "pay as you go" golf course and a putting green and you can turn up and play without making an appointment. Just arrive and see if you can get a slot for the tee-off! Enjoy!

A lovely wee course. Only 5,200 yards but spacious and safe. The rough isn't too fierce. On a…read moreweekday it can be played in three hours. The course maintenance is just fine although could do with some new tee boxes. It has some good views but in some places it's close to houses and commercial units. That's to be expected because it's only 20 minutes drive from the city centre. It is perfect for the casual golfer but probably not enough challenge for the serious player.

Visiting Edinburgh? thinking of playing some golf with views over the firth of forth well you could…read moredo worse than Craigenentinny Golf Course, id be very surprised if you could do worse but i suppose its possible. £20 for a round during the week and £21.75 at the weekend. this course is poorly maintained by local government workers who are not at all interested in stopping work while you play so expect the sound of mowers and tractors while you putt. for a little more money there are plenty properly maintained and better courses available in and around Edinburgh. do yourself a favour, play one of those.
