It was time for my next set and i had the same great experience with Ebony, this time she booked me with Sheri. Another beautiful set of box braids using only my natural hair. While there I excitedly found myself looking forward to booking my next appointment with Ebony so she can add the colors back to my hair that I had to shave for surgery. She gave me a price for the style with cornrows up top and a separate price for the style with stitch braids (captured through text message). I paid a deposit to confirm my appointment. I was a new client and could not book online because the booking website was down. I also asked for a services and price list a couple times which I did not receive, so the only price I could go off of was the price the owner texted me. As soon as I walked in, my stylist began complaining that Ebony had told her I was coming right as she was leaving, asked why I couldn't come earlier despite my appointment being made a week in advance, and vented that she had plans to braid her grandson's hair. As a client, I'm not sure why I was told any of this. While I was getting my hair braided, Ebony texted saying I owed more than what we agreed on. I hadn't gotten the stitch braids or added a wash and blow dry, so I let her know what I actually owed based on our original quote. The stylist called Ebony and put me on the phone. Ebony admitted she made a mistake, said she didn't realize I was getting boho, and tried to add an additional charge. She gave several different reasons for the price increase including that she likes to give a range in case the client changes their style, which I didn't. I also pointed out that it wasn't really a range but rather one price based on whether I got cornrows or stitch braids. I asked her to clarify a couple of times because her reasoning wasn't making sense. She eventually told me she wasn't going to go back and forth because she has 5 babies at home. Not sure what that has to do with the pricing discrepancy. I told her I wasn't comfortable paying the new amount and would be sending what we originally agreed on. She said "don't even worry about it since you don't wanna send it, I'll make sure my stylist gets paid." At that point the stylist began full on screaming at me, calling me rude, disrespectful, etc. (captured on video). This was never about the difference in price. I would have gladly paid the amount had it been communicated to me upfront. You cannot retroactively increase a price after a service has already started because of a mistake you made and expect a client to be okay with that. There is nowhere you can go where that is acceptable. It is also never acceptable to scream at a client. It's so hard to find a good braider in LA and it's disappointing because myself and my whole family were hoping we could start coming here. 1 star because the stylist was talented and she apologized for screaming at me. Edit: I sent pictures of 2 styles, not 3. The first was the style with subtle boho to clarify what I wanted. The second was to clarify the length. (Also captured in text message). It's worth noting that the second photo did have fuller boho. If Ebony believed that picture indicated I wanted that style, that was her opportunity to clarify any additional charges before my service began. She didn't. It's also worth noting that my stylist confirmed Ebony sent her the correct reference photo, meaning there was no confusion about the style I was getting.

After that, the staff started discussing something among themselves, and the braider working on my hair left. I assumed she would return, but after waiting about 35 minutes, I was informed that she had left because the salon owner felt she was too slow and decided to split the job between two braiders. According to what I was told, she became upset and left. By that point, I had already been at the salon for 1 hour and 30 minutes. I continued waiting, trying to decide what to do, until I had been there for a full 2 hours. I then explained that it was already 4:00 p.m. and that I had no intention of staying at the salon later than 8:00 p.m. This was exactly why I had mentioned from the beginning that I have a lot of hair. Instead, I was told to wait another 30 minutes to an hour for a different braider to arrive before they could even begin the service. The fact that the hair had already been sectioned and prepared was not my responsibility, but the owner kept saying that just to keep me in the store waiting. This entire situation demonstrated a lack of preparation and professionalism on the part of the salon management. The owner already knew the amount of hair I have and the type of service required, yet assigned me to someone she herself described as being too slow for the job. As a result, I spent over two hours at the salon without the service even beginning and ultimately left frustrated after wasting half of my day.

I had a prior commitment and had to leave, meaning I was forced to come back the next day just to have the style completed. I've been getting my hair braided for years and have never had to return on a second day to finish a basic braid style. To make matters worse, my braids are already slowly falling out. When I contacted the salon about the poor workmanship and requested a refund, they refused to take any responsibility. This salon appears to be severely understaffed. Employees were late or didn't show up, appointments were not managed properly, and customers are left paying the price with their time and money. Save yourself the frustration. Spending over 12 hours for unfinished braids, having to return the next day, and then watching the braids fall out shortly afterward is completely unacceptable. There are too many talented braiders out there to waste your time and money here.

I left wondering if the 'gentle hair comb out' was ever in the room with us. My stylist basically just brushed through it... with no difference in technique compared to the girl next to me who only got the blow dry service without any added detangling service. So safe to say that stylists rip through your hair whether you pay extra for soft detangling or not. Considering I had just combed through and detangled my hair just a few days prior, I also know for a fact that the huge clumps of hair that were left on the floor were not 'normal shedding' and that was extremely irritating to see because again.... i paid extra for a softer detangling to avoid that. I also had hoped that i'd get some product considering the all natural ingredients highlighted on their page and I've been desperate to try and find something that works. But every question I asked I was met with short (although polite) one word responses. There was no interest trying to understand my hair needs and what products they had to help me in my journey. Instead, we got a lesson in standing...and waiting. Small shop, and a strong "you already should know what you're doing" vibe from the jump. Staff definitely saw us, but conversation came first, customers came... whenever I guess. When I finally spoke up with a simple "Hi, we're here for a wig, my sister and a hairbrush are enemies, and we don't know much about wigs." One staff member immediately disappeared to the back like she wanted no parts of our novice wig life. The other attempted to help, but only if you already speak fluent Wig Law 301. Because apparently there is a language called lace front density 180 HD melt cutout invisible illusion something something. We tried to slow it down. Translate it. Break it into "beginner wig people terms." That did not happen. Now let's talk try-ons. Despite a wall full of wigs, only a select few are actually available to try on. Fair enough sanitation, I get it. But then don't be shocked when people ask how they're supposed to choose between honey blonde, chestnut, caramel swirl, and blonde ambition without seeing it on their actual head. The official guidance we received was "Hold the wig up to your face and imagine." Imagine? For a purchase that can cost hundreds. At that point, I started to feel like we had accidentally entered an advanced seminar instead of a retail store. No suggestions. No "this shade might work better with your skin tone." No "let me help you find your first wig." Just wigs and no vibes. We left still not knowing anything about wigs, except this: if you are not already wig expert you don't need to shop here. If you're a seasoned wig wearer who already knows exactly what lace density you need and can install it in your sleep, you'll probably be fine. I only needed one bundle to add more fullness to my style. Because I didn't have time to color this bundle, the plan was to have the stylist put this bundle in the back. When I got to the salon, I unwrapped the bundle and smelled the "corn chip" smell! I was hoping that after the install the corn chip smell would kinda be covered by the smell of my other hair which I had washed and conditioned previously with Herbal Essence. Unfortunately that was not the case and a couple of days after my install/style I had to wash my hair. One week later, I have washed and conditioned twice and even used an apple cider vinegar/water mix to rinse. The hair still smells bad. The curl pattern is gone as well. I am pretty upset by this. In 27 years of buying hair, this is the first time I have purchased hair that smells. The hair also sheds really bad. This bundle of tracks has not been cut at all. I know the shedding is from this bundle bcuz it is darker than my other hair. Hair also tangles and knots really bad; especially after a wash/condition.

At my second appointment she had her assistant do the wash and blow dry and Keray did the trim. The assistant did not use very much heat protectant and was rough with the blow dry so I asked her to add more heat protectant. She said she didn't because it was going to ruin the silk press but I wasn't there for a silk press which the assistant wasn't aware of. I was very disappointed by the assistant doing the wash, conditioner and blow dry and she didn't even do a good job on the blow dry so Keray had to blow dry more if it again (so my hair was already dry so she blew dried hair that was already dry). I baby my hair and my ends and rarely use heat so I did not like this. I had asked ahead of time (via text) the third time to have Keray do the full service and the person who answered the text said to make a note when making my appointment to do that. So when I made my appointment I put in the notes "please have Keray do the full service" but instead again, her assistant did the wash and blow dry. This time I even had to tell her assistant what shampoo to use on me. Again she did the wash and blow dry instead of Keray. I know the healthy hair express is one of the cheaper items that Keray offers so maybe she did not want to waste her time to do it with me when other customers were getting more expensive things like weaves. But I went to her specifically because I wanted Keray's expertise not her assistant's. I had actually read good reviews of Keray on TikTok so I had been excited to go to her. My last visit with her I arrived a few minutes prior to my Sunday appointment, [after she changed it from Saturday] and she had someone in her chair already. She let me know that her assistant, who is usually late, would be taking me. I find this to be an issue as I don't prefer the assistant who is/has regularly been late to be the one to shampoo/detangle/blow dry my hair and when she does it's hesitantly at that, [an assistant may detangle and blowdry "if" and when she knows what she's doing, but I'm not sure she is there yet, at least it didn't feel that way] Ms. Keray ended up doing the shampoo/condition anyway, etc., but I ended up with the assistant for the detangle/blowdry, only after starting me, she abruptly stopped, took another customer and Keray ended up finishing my hair anyway....too much! In terms of environment, the music was loud and this visit it was censorable. The location is good, parking is okay and the shop is clean, but overall I was not happy, so I won't be back.
