Since I had cut my hair into a pixie days before the wedding, she gave me a facial before putting on my make-up, and it was so relaxing! I think I fell asleep for a hot second. I've never had professional facial, and it was so nice to feel pampered before the most stressful moment of my life. Lol While getting my make-up done, she was conscientious that I don't like a lot of make-up, and that false lashes have historically been challenging for me to wear (I wear glasses so many falsies hit my glasses, and they irritate my eyes a lot). I wanted a soft, no-make-up look, but with a little wing eyeliner, and I showed her a photo of a bride she had done previously that looked really nice. That look, she told me, had used way more make-up than I liked, so she did her best to emulate that style on me, but in a toned-down approach. She was also so patient with me while we did a trial and error on a couple lash extensions to see which was most comfortable, and we eventually found one that gave my lashes fullness, yet felt weightless. To be honest, I totally forgot that I was wearing them until I had to take off my make-up. It actually made me a bit sad to take them off because they were the first falsies that were *so* comfortable. As for her HMUA team, I really appreciated that they asked each of my bridesmaids and my sister-in-law what kind of make-up and hair style they were going for. I didn't have any specific hair & make-up styles for anyone, so each of them chose their own style, and her team was flexible to accommodate each request! Overall, the experience was great! Before I found Michelle, I did one bridal makeup trial with someone else that went... horribly. It was my first time having my makeup professional done and I was shocked at how bad it was for the cost. After that experience I almost gave up hope and considered doing my own makeup on my wedding day. Several months later, I decided to look into makeup artists again and found Michelle on instagram (@michellevalentine_beauty) and I am so happy I did. Through my process of trialing two different makeup artists, I can fully recognize how talented Michelle is at what she does. Makeup, especially bridal makeup, is extremely difficult. Everyone has such unique facial features and different personal preferences on how they like different parts of their makeup done. You also want the makeup to be heavy enough to show up in photos and last the whole day, but not look crazy and cakey in person. Michelle was able to strike the perfect balance of all of these things, and was very receptive to all of my feedback on what I wanted, no matter how minor the detail was. Apart from the makeup, Michelle is a very kind and genuine person who is easy to talk to. The makeup takes ~2-3 hours so having a makeup artist you get along with is definitely a bonus. She also did a color analysis for me during my trial which was super thorough and insightful, and even covered what fabrics would look good on me. In terms of cost, Michelle's prices were comparable to the first MUA I trialed and based on my research, she is on the more affordable side for the Bay Area. In terms of scheduling, my wedding was on a Friday during busy season (May) and I booked her 5 months in advance (in December). For the trial, her weekends were booked solid so I had to do it on a weekday, so definitely try to book far in advance for a weekend spot. The trial is so important though so I would not recommend skipping it! Michelle also offers hair services but I had already booked my hairstylist a few months before I found her so I did not end up getting my hair done by her, however she has demonstrated ability in different hairstyles if you look at her instagram! In summary, Michelle is an extremely talented and kind makeup artist that will ensure you look and feel your best on your wedding day! Rest assured you'll be in good hands :)

While Anamika delivers beautiful makeup, this two star review is due to (1) poor communication…read morethroughout the weeks before the wedding, (2) lack of flexibility with natural hair, (3) being late on the wedding morning and not bringing tools for the reception look. 1. Communication - I don't live in the Bay Area so I reached out to Anamika a couple months before the wedding to plan a trip around the time she would be free for a trial. She didn't respond for two weeks, and only finally responded when our wedding planner stepped in. I had booked with her 10 months before the wedding at which time the communication was fine - after giving the deposit (50% of service so 1000$) she was unresponsive. 2. I have very curly hair that takes quite some time to straiten and usually is frizzy when straitened. I explained this to Anamika when booking and she said it was fine as long as I tried my best and it was clear that I had gone through all of my hair with a strait iron before she arrived. At the trial she looked at my hair and asked me if I had read the contract, that she required very straight hair. I explained that this is the best that I could do. I would be fine to just go for a natural style or something else that would take less time if this didn't work for her. I showed her my hair in natural curls and said that we could just arrange the hair without heat styling - whatever is easiest. In the end I felt shamed for my natural hair and she put such little effort into it during the trial. At one point, I even asked her if - given that she was uncomfortable with my hair, we could cancel the contract, but she refused. I actually got 2 Brazillian blowouts before the wedding to make my hair fair enough and purchased an additional set of extensions at another length to be easier to blend. 3. On the wedding morning Anamika was about 20 minutes late to start with hair and makeup. We actually ran behind schedule for my sari draping, and the sari draper had to make other accommodations as she would be late for her next appointment if she waited for me. For the reception look, I had e-mailed her saying I wanted to do crimped hair and she replied that as long as my hair was strait it would be fine. My hair was strait (helped along by the two chemical Brazilian treatments) but she simply said she didn't bring her crimping tools and proceeded to do a typical blowout look with extensions.
