I went today to get my hair done with Joanna she was great!!! I was very nervous to get my hair done due to me having dyed my hair black and I wanted the ombré look. The experience was great right from the beginning, not knowing that there was no parking I brought no change to put in the meter when I walked I asked Joanna if she had change for $2 she reached into her purse and pulled the change out of her purse and gave it to me, I gave her my $2 dollars and we wouldn't take it. To get to the point after she was all done I absolutely loved it!!! She was the best I would highly recommend her the place felt so comfortable and welcoming!!! I have been getting extensions for over 15 yrs from many different stylist and all types of extensions. Was recently recommend to Joanne, My hair is very short and damages so I was a bit nervous to see someone new. Let me start off by saying how horrible I am for writing a review almost 2 yrs after my wedding, BUT better late than never right?!? So I had Joanna do my Hair and make-up on my big day and I LOVED IT! When we did my consult appointment she did exactly what i wanted from showing her the picture ONCE! I never do anything with my hair and she made me feel like a princess. I am not a big fan of make-up but Joanna assured me that the air brush would not feel caked on, which was a big concern for me! So for my wedding last year, everything had to be perfect therefore I tried out 5-6 differant makeup artists (YES I KNOW, and it was quite costly & obssesive at the same time, but hey! it was my big day). After the many reviews I FOR SURE thought that Glam Dolls would be "IT". They arrived at my house, and I had photo's up on my computer to show the girl that was doing my hair. She started on it, and the hairspray that went into my hair ....I don't know if it's because it was cheap or because she's an over sprayer but my head was getting heavier by the minute. The make up artist showed up a tad bit late, and I told her I wanted a goddess look (natural but golden). My demands were simple. At the end, my hair looked AWFUL. I had the worst case of helmet head. As for my makeup.............. when she was finished I thought to myself..."omg this is how drag queens feel". The color was totally off, and it was so THICK and just BAD in general that I looked like a freakin trans/drag queen. I hinted my distaste and she assured me it was because I didn't wear much make up so I was not use to it..I had so much cakey crap on my face that It would be enough for 8 other individuals. I paid my fee, and told them I would send in the form --- because im just much too nice to tell them they did a terrible job in person & I was so stunned and anxiety driven I ..didn't know what to do at the time!. My husband came home and the roaring laughter that bellowed out of his mouth was mortifying. I called my MOH crying thinking WTF im never going to find someone in time! I've been hesitant to write this review in fear of my disappointment being a cause of residual stress and exhaustion from the wedding and wedding planning. However, now coming on to three weeks past the date, I can still say that I am saddened by my hair and make up on my wedding day. The trial run with Joanna was great. We went over the hair style I had in mind (hair down with romantic waves or as Joanna called it, "Victoria Secret" hair) and she executed it perfectly. The make up I was unsure about but we started off and I gave her my opinion on what I liked and didn't like, most importantly deciding on no light eyeshadow. She made notes and also took photos at different angles so that she could replicate it come my wedding day. On the day of my wedding, Joanna showed up early (a big plus) and starts working on my moh, mom and flower girl. Two of my bridesmaids decided they wanted their hair done and I foolishly let them go ahead of me. By the time I got in the chair and was finished, I had about 30 minutes to get changed and out the door. So trusting what was done to my hair and make up given the trial run, in addition to the lack of time and having more important items running through my head, I didn't examine the final look very closely. I think I looked at myself one more time after that while using the restroom, but I was in a hurry to get back to the reception. Mind you, I'm sure at the time I thought I looked fine; if I looked atrocious, I definitely would have noticed. Now that things have calmed down and pictures are now being posted of the event, I can see just how wrong I looked that day. Instead of the full romantic waves that I wanted, I got very large tight spiral curls that were separated into about 5 sections. And let me tell you, the gaps in between them did not look very pretty in the photos. I was given the natural make up look that I wanted, but I also had light eyeshadow that I did not want, which was applied from the lash line to the brow bone; no gradient of color, just solid throughout. None of these items photographed well, and unfortunately with my dark hair, the distinctions of the curl was pretty much non-existent making it looked like I had "tubes" of hair. Frankly, I don't understand why I wasn't given the look I paid her to do in the first place; if she had an idea for what she thought might look better, it should have been discussed during the trial, not experimented on the day of the wedding. I hate that when I look at the photos, all I can think about is how ugly I look and how this memorable day was spoiled over something so vain as hair and make up, and not that it was the greatest day of my life. Believe me, I wish I could feel otherwise, but I just can't. I honestly feel what was the point of the trial if in the end I didn't get what I want? Perhaps I shouldn't have trusted someone as much as I did for this specific occasion. read more

I have never written a review before but after this experience I felt compelled to do so. I am new to San Diego and thought I would try a groupon to get my hair done. I was quite unimpressed with the salons overall appearance it was not clean, there were broken floor boards and no AC. Really it looked run down at best. My appt. was with Natalie at 10am, who seemed nice enough but not terribly enthusiastic or talkative. During my 4 1/2 hr appt she dropped the comb she was using on my hair 6x and continued to use this dirty comb to brush my hair even after being shampooed. . . .I was in mortal shock that is completely unacceptable! There was no color consolation she just chose colors to do the obre fade with out asking which colors I would like to use to create the affect I wanted that was in the pic I brought. Then in the middle of this 4 1/2 hr. appt. her second client of the day showed up and I had to sit and wait after my cut for her to apply color to her next client. Only to reapply color to the ends of my hair completely frying the ends. Long Story short I ended up with fired ends and overall pretty Disgusted with the whole experience. She only charged me $55 for the cut and color but I will never go back to this salon I would rather pay $$$ for a stylist that cares and doesn't destroy hair. read more

Joanna Lopez and her team of "Glam Dolls" are phenomenal! Not being much into hair and makeup I knew I needed a professional to do me up right for my wedding day but didn't know where to turn. After reading Joanna's wonderful reviews on Yelp and getting a great vibe from her through our e-mail conversations (and not to mention her very competitive rates) I set up a consultation appointment. I have crazy, curly, frizzy hair that intimidates most stylists, but not Joanna! By the time I left I was picture perfect and not a curl out of place! I did end up with some concerns when my "do" frizzed (she is in PB right close to the water) and when looking back at myself in the mirror I didn't see "me" (the airbrush really covers everything!) but after expressing these concerns and coming back for a pre-wedding cut, color and highlight Joanna not only soothed my fears but did the IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!! She straightened my hair! Many have tired and all but Joanna have failed! What a wonderfully fun surprise! She truly is just plain, flat out TALENTED! Come wedding day Joanna and her team showed up early and knocked out beautiful, full hair and makeup on EIGHT women and even did up-dos and hints of color on my two flower girls and my junior bridesmaid. My hair did not frizz a bit, and at my request Joanna left my beauty marks showing (so I was still "me") while she covered my imperfections and highlighted my best features. We all looked amazing all day long and into the night, and I never once had to touchup my hair or makeup. It was an amazing relief to not have to worry about running to the mirror to make sure everything was still as it should be. After everything was said and done, being exhausted from the days events I even slept in my wedding day hair and it held up surprisingly well! Yet with just a little shampoo and conditioner it washed right out the next day and my hair was still silky smooth! I came to Glam Dolls for a hair trial for my upcomimg wedding. I'm on a small budget and thought their prices (especially for a trial) were a little high, but they had such good reviews that I was willing to splurge in exchange for great hair. First off, the girls were amazingly nice and super sweet. However, my hair looked awful and I was extremely unhappy. I have a short a line cut, so I knew ahead of time that it could be challenging to style my hair. I sent in a picture of what I wanted before even booking an appointment and was assured that it could be done. When I got there, I again showed the picture of what I wanted and was again told it could be done. I was turned away from the mirror the entire time, so I couldn't see what was being done until the end. When I finally saw, I wanted to cry. The end result was nothing like what I had asked for. I had asked for loose messy curls with some volume and my hair was tight ringlets that was so teased and full of product that it looked like a helmet. I made a few suggestions hoping to improve it, but in the end nothing was making it any better. The stylist only used a flat iron on my hair and never used any other tools such as a blow dryer or curling iron..... The flat iron just made my hair look flat and definitely didn't give me the type of curls I wanted. I was so in shock that I didn't know what to say. I went home and tried to rearrange it, still hoping to salvage it, but I could barely get a comb or my fingers through it. Even to wash it was difficult because it was so hard and fill of product. Needless to say, I will not be getting my hair done at Glam Dolls for my wedding and am really upset that I paid $55 for the horrible result that I got. read more

I am completely unimpressed with the ownership of this company. I originally called scheduling an appointment with Joanna explaining that I had found Glam Dolls on Groupon and I am a natural brunette and have some blonde highlights on half of my head and I am in the process of going back to my natural color, and I also wanted to add some layers and a trim so the Groupon seemed appropriate for me, my friend who does not usually get her hair done decided she might like to get some red streaks in her hair. I explained this entire situation to Joanna on the phone and she said I didn't actually have to purchase the Groupon and she would honor the price. Upon arrival the salon seemed a little shady and needed some revamping, as planned my friend and I got the exact work we had originally planned , my hair took me about 90 minutes while my friends took about 25( reminder she just got streaks and a wash, no cut or blowout, or style). Upon our checkout even after calling Joanna on the phone she insisted that we both get charged the SAME amount per person for significantly unequal amounts of work. Joanna offered little to no reasoning with me and charged my friend the full $60 for some red streaks. Yoke was an awesome stylist and is the only reason I am giving this review two stars and not one, but I will defiantly not recommend, or be returning to Glam Dolls with their poor pricing and customer service. read more

Joanna is very talented and does AMAZING hair!!! I LOVED my hairstyle, it was even better than I expected and my bridesmaids looked great too! Plus she is very fast! She helped give me some good advice on picking out some extensions and how to cut them and sew the clips on and they came out great! After some awful experiences around town, a girl friend of mine who always has beautiful color and cuts, referred me to Natilie here. My first appt was back in the fall of '12 and I was really impressed with the cut being exactly what I wanted and how nice Natilie was. I majorly slacked on my hair and didn't get back till this past week, but this time needed a heavy trim and wanted to gloss my hair with a touch darker color and add some pretty caramel/golden pieces around my face from a picture I had of Kate Bekinsale. Natilie surprised me in that she got this look done without doing typical highlights with any harmful processing and merely used a shade darker than my hair all over leaving out my natural lighter colored hair out for the face framing lighter pieces. I left the salon but realized as the day went on the lighter colored part wasn't quite as much as I wanted, so I called the salon back & Joanna happily rescheduled me for an adjustment. Natilie re-did the lighter part and it is PERFECT. I am absolutely in love with the way my hair looks: shiny, natural color, amazing cut. It's the best my hair has looked in ages! Couldn't be happier:) Also, very reasonably priced and Ive also walked in on the tail end of some bridal hair practicing and seen nothing but gorgeous bridal hair on the appoinments before me! read more

This review is for Jennifer, the manicurist. I have lived in many areas throughout Southern California and would like to say Jen is the BEST!!! I have been going to Jen for over a year and a half. She is the only person I will ever let touch my nails. The reason behind that comment is that she always sanitizes or gets rid of the implement she uses. She does this while your nails are drying. Also, Jen is very detailed with her work. I love that she only works with natural nails. I used to have acrylics but then Jen suggested I try the shellac. One word... AMAZING!!! Joanna and the Glam Dolls did the hair and makeup for my bridal party and I (January 2015). They did a fabulous job on all of us. I absolutely loved my hair & makeup. In fact some of my family and friends did their hair/makeup elsewhere and were jealous that they didn't use Glam Dolls. I went into the shop for my trial. The shop is located in the Bankers Hill area so be prepared to look for parking. They are on the second floor of a cute, old Victorian-style building. I loved my trial makeup and hair. Joanna had a lipstick color that I loved so much, I went out and bought it myself. Also I was initially unsure about whether I should use regular foundation or airbrush makeup. After the trial, I was sold on airbrushed makeup. It went on easy and light, had amazing coverage, and stayed on all day. On the day of my wedding, she and her team arrived at the hotel super early...like before the sun came up and were ready to go in no time. They were all quick and efficient. Joanna did a beautiful job on my hair and makeup and it stayed pretty much all day long. I have oily skin so all I had to do to freshen up was to use those oil blotting papers. I was so pleased that I booked her for my wedding day six months in advance. She arrived to the hotel room early, set up quickly, and did six bridesmaid's hair and my hair! Joanna is super friendly, professional, flexible, and she listened to each of our wants and exceeded our expectations. Seeing the groupon deal I called the salon to schedule a cut and color on a Saturday. They were all booked up but said they would honor the deal on Monday so I made the appointment. The salon is low key and small, not terrible and but not impressive either. Megan was the only one working that day. She is very sweet and cute. To be honest I did have misgivings seeing how young she wasa but as I was already there I decided to go for it. She did pick a perfect shade of brown for my hair. However, I have NEVER had so much hair dye applied to my skin. She literally slammed my hair line all the way around my head. I could only really see the line across my forehead when I was in the chair which I immediately questioned her about and she assured me it would come off. Well it didn't!! She used the color remover after cutting and styling my hair which was mediocre at best, no product, frizzy.....anyway she attempted to remove the line. It did not come off just faded slightly. She told me the nail polish remover works best and "I" can use that when I get home. Well when I got home and looked at my head I realized she had dyed my ears, all down the back of my neck, even my scalp!! It was really a distaster...I had to go to work the next day! Luckily my husband is a painting contractor because nail polisher remover didn't do it. I had to use straight acetone which by the way burns. I thought about calling the salon owner but honestly I don't want to go back there. I have been having my hair done for many years at many salons, low end and high end, and I have NEVER had dye on my skin like that. When I do my own color I don't slam myself like that...not even close!! I don't know how that would ever be acceptable any where. Beware! I guess you get what you pay for and I learned my lesson. read more

I've been needing a good cut and color for a while, but my hair is sooo long it would've cost a fortune to get it done since you have to pay extra if you have long hair. I saw this place on groupon and it had great review so i thought i'd try it. I got the groupon( the ones that you have to use before 4 on sunday) but they were all book but they offered to honor it on monday which was amazing! My hair dresser was Ashely, she was soo nice, she was like a southern belle with edge, she would give me options with my hair, but was not pushy at all and made sure it was what i wanted to do. I naturally love having dark hair, and i've always wanted this like dark purple look to where it dark inside a room, but dark purple in the sun, and she did exactly that! We also cut three inches off my hair and she made sure i saw how much she was cutting off, but insured me my hair was still going to look so long which it is! i will definitely be comming back this place for ashely! read more
