I booked an appointment for this salon after seeing it recommended on Reddit, and after I read so…read moremany good reviews, I decided to give it a try. I booked a 3:30pm appointment for a root touch up with Roy. I arrived right before 3:30 pm and noticed Roy finishing up a men's haircut. When he saw me, he asked if I was there for a cut or color. I said color, and tried explaining I had an appointment, but was quickly sent off to the back of the salon, at which point I was told to sit in a chair. Roy was taking payment from his last customer and then was taking an Instagram photo of someone who had just gotten hair color/balayage/a blow out (from what I could tell). In the meantime, no one acknowledged me in the back of the salon. As we approached 3:45 pm, I think someone finally realized I was a little irritated to just be sitting there with zero acknowledgement. It wasn't like I was a walk-in; I scheduled this time to be here and showed up promptly. Roy finally walks over and asks what color I want and quotes me a price that was certainly not what I was prepared to spend for that day. I explained I wanted a root touch-up and he said that wouldn't really work out for my hair. He then reduced the original quoted price by $10 so that I would get a single process, full head, rather than just the roots. I agreed to that because I'm already there, and I do want to give this salon a fair shot. While Roy prepared the color in the bowl, they got me ready for the color process. I had a jacket with me on the back of the chair I was sitting in, and it was thrown onto the chair next to me - probably would be nice if they could offer to hang it on a hook somewhere. I was given a cup of water, and then once the color was ready, the color was applied (not by Roy, who I had booked). I sat for the standard 25-30 minutes and that is when someone different came over to wash and dry my hair. The shampoo was great, and thorough. However, I have curly hair, and it is clear to me that they do not know how to work with curly hair here at all. The assistant attempted to dry and shape my curls, but it was really not working out. Anyone with curly hair knows, the more you touch the hair, the frizzier it gets. By the time he was done, my hair was dry enough, but it was a frizzy, poofy mess. So, luxurious salon experience, this was not. I paid for the service and separately tipped the colorist and the assistant who shampooed/dried my hair, even though he truly had no idea what to do with my hair at all. Unless your hair meets their Instagram standard of beauty (straight/slight wavy & long hair) then you're better off finding a salon that actually caters to those with all varieties of hair textures.
Edited to address Roy's comments: The jacket thrown onto the chair belonged to me (and was thrown on top of a staff member's jacket on that same chair) and since I wasn't properly acknowledged by staff when being sent to the back, that explains why no one asked to hang my jacket up which I suppose is a courtesy for other customers. I mentioned the courtesy of the price adjustment in my original review, and yes, I did agree to his suggestion and quoted price. That doesn't change the fact that Roy himself did not do the work, despite booking with him.
