My friends and I came here two evenings after dinner as they do keep relatively late hours...a lot of the flavors of popsicles are good palate cleansers after all the meat, cheese, seafood, and bread you've had roaming around town and all the pintxos bars. One interesting attribute of this shop is the ability to customize your popsicle once you've made the choice. First, you can choose to dip it in chocolate (milk or dark) and potentially add nuts to the chocolate before it hardens. Each of those will add to the cost of the popsicle, but I don't recall these being expensive. In terms of flavor choices, a lot of fruity options as well as some chocolate options. I got cookies and cream one night and dulce de leche the second. Both were excellent, but I preferred the dulche de leche. Stop in and say hello to the friendly staff, buy a popsicle, and walk around San Sebastian's old town enjoying it.

As travelers who typically visit Italy every year we are super finicky about what makes good gelato/ice cream. Boulevard Gelateria tastes like they use some artificial boosters and/or stabilizers--said another way the flavor tastes artificial. Arnoldo--the strawberry ice cream tasted artificial At Carlos Arriola, the ice cream is in stainless containers (like the high end gelaterias in Italy). The straciatella was solid and we found the strawberry particularly authentic, natural and delicious. Not sure how this place isn't reviewed in Trip Advisor not Yelp yet but it's the best we've had so far in San Sebastián. This would be solid in any other city in Italy (maybe not Rome, but anywhere else) We had the same flavors at each place--straciatella (chocolate chip) and fresa (strawberry) all on the same day so we made a direct comparison across all three places We haven't tasted Oiartzun ice cream yet. With that said though, I do enjoy various types of homemade style chocolate and that is really what Casa Aramendia brings to the table. Located within the tight alleyways of old town San Sebastian, most may pass it by, but do yourself a favor and bookmark this if you are a chocolate fan as it is worthwhile. The staff is very friendly, speak good English, and more than willing to help you choose some delectable chocolate. While browsing around I'd suggest watching the back room where they are making the chocolate you are eating at the moment or in the process of buying. Like most chocolate stores, they are willing to let you nibble on a few samples to help you decide which bunch you will be devouring. One downside, which is a bad word to use in this case, is the chocolate is not cheap, but trust me it is worth it as the flavors are intense and insanely tasty!
