Awful online services. Constant password change requirements, 2-step verification EVERY TIME you log onto the website or app, constantly drops connection with personal accounting software (Quicken Simplifi, Mint.com, etc). They seem to have been hacked a number of years ago as well, as I get texts from phishing scams using my contact info and their bank name. They're a hot mess. Only reason I use them is b/c my employer uses them as our HSA bank. Avoid this bank at all costs. read more

I opened a business account with First Security, part of the Glacier Bank group. While the customer service in the bank has been fine, the online banking leaves a LOT to be desired. I should have checked earlier, but literally they only save transactions for 90 days. Completely useless at tax time; in this day and age of ultra cheap digital storage what IT person made that stupid call? This is going to cost me a ton of work. I will likely switch banks soon so I don't have to deal with this next year. They will export to QuickBooks but only in 90 day increments, which is just dumb...I am having to pull up the text versions of all my statements and wasting my time dumping it into a text file and messing with it to get it into Excel. Again, in the age of cheap storage and easy to export formats, this is unacceptable for business. read more

This bank has the worst mobile app ever invented. Super frustrating constantly have to change your password because it will not save to your phone or computer. This is twice in a week that I've had to try to change my password because of this app and also on the webpage it does not work. Jurassic systems. I was not notified my debit card was compromised Until I went to use it. I had to call in. No text no email. I tried to log on the web and on the app to see what's going on in the bank blocked my ability to see my account so now I have to wait all weekend. I have dealt with this too long I'm ready to switch banks. read more

We were really wanting to like this bank. After all, we are moving to Kalispell Montana and the name seemed fitting. So we opened two accounts at a local branch in 2021. Fast forward to January, 2023. We haven't really started to use Glacier as our bank becasue we aren't moving there for a couple of months more. However what has transpired over the last two week as made us put a stop to a large amount of money we were transferring to Glacier bank from our bank in another state. To be to the point, we have found Glacier bank disorganized, confusing and somewhat incompetent. The first incident started to happen a few weeks back. After setting up an account in December, 2021, on January 3, 2023, I decided to check into my account online. I was totally unsuccessful. I tried several more times but to no avail. So, I called the local branch. I nice lady attempted to help me get into my account. It didn't work. So. she escalated the situation and said another person would be calling me to fix the issue the next day. That call didn't come until two days later. Then, after 15 minutes, this lady convinced me everything was finished and I could check in. ..so she hung up. I was happy to finally be able to check into my account. But I tried and I tried, but it still didn't work. I tried everything for 10 minutes . Still nothing. I called again. This time I got another lady who said she would help me. After ten minutes she couldn't do anything . But then, she really surprised me telling me that the reason it wasn't working was because I did not have an account. What? I had no account? Yes I did! I tried to explain to this second lady that I just had a call from a person who said my account was fixed, but this new lady didn't car. She just said that I didn't have an account. I was now upset. I did have an account! So, I asked this lady to speak to her supervisor because I knew I had an account. I waited another ten minutes and finally another lady came on and said she would help me. After looking at our situation, she apologized for the other lady and admitted I did have an account. But then she said, don't worry, I will fix it. After 10 more minutes, it still wasn't working. No one at this bank seemed to know what to do. Finally this lady said she would again have to "escalate " it to another person, but I have to wait a couple more days. Its now been nearly a week and I still cannot access my online account. Total frustration to us. But within an hour we had our second huge disappointment with this bank...and it had nothing to do with trying to access my online account. This time it was in reference to obtaining a small construction loan to build our home. We have been coming to kalispell very frequently for over two years.Among other things, I am a general Contractor who has built over 63 homes in three different states the last 40 years. I am licensed in California and Montana. We have the one perfect lot. We have been meeting contractors throughout the valley and have understood the supply chain issues and lack of quality workers as well as contractors in the area. We had plans drawn up and engineered to make things beautiful. We have another house currently to build and thought it would be a good time to build our house at the same time ( knowing that the "one and done builder" will not have the kind of priority that an contractor will have who will build others. as we plan to do). So, after having our account at Glacier, we felt it would be important to go to them for a small construction loan (approx $275,000 - 300,000). After all, the property is paid off and we intend to apply about $500,000 of our own money to to construction. The lady I spoke to was named "Jane". She said she was the construction specialist at Glacier and she would help me. That's when our concerns with Glacier really began to take off. Jane spoke about acting as though she understood the market. But from our perspective, her questions didn't imply any knowledge other than a minimal base knowledge of construction. I informed her that I was a General Contractor and had a couple houses to build, but wanted one of them to me my personal house here in Kalispell. She said they didn't usually loan to owner-builder types. I understood that but started to tell her of my extensive background and she said they do make exceptions and that I sounded like a candidate. Over the next week she asked for more and more information...taxes from last two years, etc. Then near the end she suddenly tells my wife they can't loan anything to us because I am an owner builder...Period. Then stopped. I was shocked. What? Why did you ask all the questions? We are now pulling all our money out and moving to another bank. We have recommended to two friends do not go to Glacier. They stopped. I have no more space here to write so I had to cut this short. Avoid Glacier at all costs...they don't seem to know what they are doing. read more

I used to contract with the federal government, and this group makes the post office look functional. My username is a 12 digit number. I'd change it but i cant use the app that makes me log in everytime. I have to log in using a browser, but there's still no clear way to do it. I got a HELOC loan but can't get any money out to use. I can transfer, but only from my checking to my HELOC. I've never had a more difficult time doing the simplest things. This can't be an accident. Someone would have to intentionally design a system so conplicated and non user friendly. This will be my one and only experience with Glacier Bank. read more

They treat humble travelers like suspected felons. If you are a local, think twice about patronizing a bank that doesn't practice common courtesy simply because there is no perceived profit. I paid them $4 to get some cash out of their atm for pocket money while on vacation. Went inside to exchange some of the 20's for hundreds. "Sorry but we only do that for customers." I explained I was a customer as I just paid $4 to access some cash. She said should could exchange 1 hundred dollar bill for me but I would need to furnish ID. That wouldn't really save much room in my billfold, would it? Teller was visibly embarrassed that she was not permitted to facilitate a vacationer who was trying to spend money in their locality. The tellers were not busy, and I don't appreciate being treated like a suspected criminal. Somehow, gas station attendants and grocery store clerks are trusted to recognize legal 20 dollar bills, but bank tellers are not? Oh, this one time transaction looked like laundering drug money? If so, I am a pretty petty dealer. Profit margins must be very slim at Glacier Bank if they can't afford to exchange a few hundred dollars of legal tender. I would advise prospective customers to do business at a bank with more solid financial footing. And, choose a bank that is not so suspicious of everyone who walks in the door. read more

I had $112 go missing from my checking account after winning a dispute because I had gotten scammed. The money was taken by glacier bank as a merchandise revocation and when confronted about it, they blamed PayPal and would not help me figure out the problem. Will not be banking with them again, my advice would be to pick a competent bank other than Glacier or it's sister banks including first security. read more

For as many branches as they now have and other affiliations you'd think they're mode of operation would be more updated and suffisticated. It's not. I am so impressed with the PR Dept. at this "family of banks". They could not possibly have come up with a more apropos name for this company, as everything they do from processing loan applications, to addressing issues with their online banking portal, to "getting back" to you with answers to problems or questions moves at a glacier's pace. Additionally, the Ice Age appropriately describes their computer systems and online banking portal. I went for more than a year without getting any kind of statement or information about one of our mortgages. I called and emailed many times during that period in an attempt to get either a paper statement sent monthly, or at the very least an email/digital statement. No less than thirteen months later, it finally started to show up in my listing of accounts online. Just last week I was speaking with my insurance agent to get a proof of coverage letter for the homeowner's insurance on one of my properties which mortgage was held by Glacier. Surprise! Due to an error on my part, the insurance coverage on the property had lapsed more than a year ago. Glacier was holding the mortgage for an uninsured second home worth more than $300k for more than a year. Heaven forbid something should have happened (fire), we both would have been in a word of hurt. There certainly must be a Federal regulation that wasn't being followed in this instance. I get PTSD any time I need to make contact with them. In fairness, the local branch I deal with if FANTASTIC. Friendly staff and very helpful and personable. They must feel like that friend in high school who never asked you to their house for a visit because their parents were such an embarrassment. I got a home loan from Glacier Bank. I saw a fee for $500 on the final statement that I had not seen on previous loans. I asked the loan officer what the fee was and she told me it was to cover the cost of selling the loan to Wells Fargo. I couldn't believe it. When I told the loan officer how unethical that was her response was, "The law allows us to do that so we do." That's the dirtiest thing I've ever seen a bank do. read more

The loan officer was very nice but we feel a little intimidated by the officer not revealing to us that our loan would be sold to another loan company9two of them)..We are senior citizens and have bought and paid for three other homes in Nebraska while we lived there.Now we are stuck in a underwater townhouse that we will never be able to sell in this downturned economy.Two homes in our area are selling for 99,000 while we paid for ours at an inflatable price.No way is the housing market coming back . These days, it's easy to regard banks with suspicion because of the irresponsible lending practices and poor customer services of the "monster mega" banks nationwide. Glacier Bank is not part of this group of banks that deserve their bad reputation. My husband and I have three accounts with Glacier and we opened the accounts there because we are involved with the nonprofit sector and we are impressed with how philanthropic Glacier Bank has been. After four years, I'm impressed with the customer service I have received. Today, I called to ask about avoiding fraudulent wire transfer activity on our business accounts because of some information I'd heard on a consumer podcast. The Glacier Bank employee who answered the phone was patient, courteous and concerned about helping me with my question. Since she needed additional information, she left a message for one of the vice-presidents and he called me back within FIVE MINUTES with the info I needed. Wow! You would never get that response from a big bank. Hurray for community banks! read more
