The trail starts in Mantua & ends in downtown Garrettsville (just behind the Mill restaurant) , each section is divided into three gravel paths that were former railroad corridors. You will be surrounded by various species of trees, swamps and fields. The second section of the path even looks a little like Nelson Ledges with its beautiful carved stones. But due to the swamps & the Cuyahoga River being almost directly next to these paths, you need a really good bug repellant! And plenty of sun screen as the first section of the path (in Mantua) is very sunny despite all the trees. The only downside is that if you start off in Mantua, the path is directly next to a rubber factory that smells terrible! And you'll also pass a random storage unit facility but the walk is somewhat scenic other than that. I used to walk here every day after work to help maintain my weight, it is very straight and flat for those of you who have difficulty walking...you could probably use a motorized wheelchair if need be without getting stuck. It is also very clean and not a high traffic area. There's also a playground, shelter/pinic area and basketball court near the Mantua Village Park (on East High Street. Garrettsville Villiage Park is on State Route 700 in Hiram Twp.).

There's a great deal of trails and rivers. Most of which I didn't have time to fully discover but everything here is well maintained! Thankfully not alot of people come here but this place also features an outhouse and a grill. Definitely reccomend coming here!

Yet another section of Portages Hike & Bike Trails, this particular section has an interesting…read morehistory @ the very end of the trail. If you start your journey from Vaughn Road, you can see where nature has carved out large sections of earth & see beautiful ledges peeking out of the soil. Unlike the less visually appealing section that starts near the rubber factory, you are surrounded by woods & farms on either side...and if you have a appreciation for trains/local history; then you'll enjoy walking the trail as it used to be part of the railway that ran through Mantua. Although the entire trail is part of the rails, there is a large plaque at the end of the trail (going towards Garrettsville) that explains the sad but inspiring history that caused a terrible train wreck so many years ago. This section is also well shaded and smooth, you could easily push a stroller or pull a wagon. It is also great for walking dogs that have behavioral issues as it is not well used & relatively quiet.

If you do happen to notice it, you'll enjoy the large open field, beautiful pergola with its swinging bench and wildflowers or (if you enjoy studying insects) being swamped by grasshoppers. Although the signs might boast about the stunning & underestimated dragonfly & how many different species live at the park- I've never seen so many grasshoppers in all my life! However, another not so great pest also resides here.My very first visit here ended in me pulling ticks off of my dogs so make sure you use bug spray & tick preventative since each side of the path is surrounded by tall grasses & weeds. The pea gravel path loops around so you can't get lost. If you use a stroller, mobile wheelchair or even a push one all can enjoy the relaxing environment. There is a path at the very beginning of the woods but it's always flooded so I'm not sure of the difficulty level for this trail.

I seen this on social media. And knew immediately that I needed to come check this out. And just…read morelike what I already seen. I was not disappointed. It is a smooth 50 minute drive from downtown Cleveland. Taking 422 most of the way there with back roads the remainder. I was there in know time doing the speed limit. There are a few locations to pull off I noticed. So make sure you choose the Nelson Kennedy Ledges state park for gps. Have walking tennis shoes or boots on. Do not wear flip flops. The trail can be a challenge in anything else. You will fall in love with the beauty of nature. And of course the glass bridge is something that is amazing. I throughly enjoyed it and am already planning it trip back next month. Get there. You'll be glad that you listened and went.

An update to my review for Nelson-Kennedy Ledges State Park. This is a relatively small park, only…read moreabout 1 mile long, but it is packed with plenty of fun. There are a number of marked paths through the ledges, plus there are even more side trails and ways to experience the wonders of nature. There are 2 waterfalls, one big one at the North end of the park and a second shorter one near the South end. Of the 4 marked trails, the red trail is my favorite since it is the most challenging with some great rock scrambling. You want to be careful since there are some real cliffs and places where you can hurt yourself if you are not careful, but it also has more fun packed into it than any other park in the area. They have announced a new glass walkway over the Southern waterfall which I will have to get out and check soon. Go out and play.

I'm from the east side, and for years I've driven over the bridges telling myself, "One day I'm…read moregoing to stop and wander through that park." I'm so happy I finally did. Now I already know I'll be back, because we only explored part of it -- but what my sister, her pup, and I wandered through was fun, peaceful, and a little adventurous. At one point there was literally a giant mallard just standing in the middle of the woods like he owned the place. And then there were stairs that climb straight up the side of the mountain -- okay, hill -- but it felt like a mountain in the best way. The whole walk made me feel free. If you ever find yourself wanting a moment outside, a breath of fresh air, or just a place to wander, stop here. It's worth it.

The park has plenty of parking, depending on what area you would like to explore. There is a golf course and multiple areas for fishing. You can also take your kayak and kayak the emerald necklace. Very pretty during the fall. I recommend bringing a picnic to one of the many picnic areas or sitting on one of the many benches throughout the park and enjoying mother nature.
