Since then, they've expanded into nine stores and four states. Sydney is lucky enough to have two, with this Oxford Street outlet dishing up a huge range. The Zomp buyers head overseas twice a year to get the best from London, Paris, Spain and New York (to name a few) straight to our little tootsies. The shoes here aren't cheap, but you have a great range of labels to choose from and pretty much every kind of style you can dream of.

Keep an eye out for massive discounts on designer brands. I once invested in a pair of Roberto Cavalli gold heeled stilettos at a rock bottom price of $300... down from $950. They fitted like Cinderella's slipper. If you couldn't be bothered physically getting to Casanovas, head online and let your fingers to the shopping. The family run business sees the husband and wife owners travel back to Italy 4 times a year in search of the best buys in line with fashion trends. But that's just what it seemed to be, there was no cohesion of styles by brand or occasion, more just shelves of mismatched shoes. This may be a slightly unfair observation as it was a sale, but even the pieces that were new in had an all too obvious predilection for diamante and patent leather. A trend which is matched in the handbags and shoes also for sale, never a good plan. There is the odd nice pair of shoes among this horde but you'll have to work hard to find it and I'm not even sure if the shop assistant would be happy you taking them from her if you do!

I was disappointed as the bargain I thought I had sourced $30 ballet flat was a cash only purchase. There was a good range of espedrills ready for summer and many types of shoes for the mainstream. Nothing in stock was overtly trendy. I think you find that with most Double Bay stores, it's very classic couture more suited to the established middle aged madam. There were some very comfortable styles heavily reduced from $150 to $75. So that would have been a very good buy if you liked what you saw. The staff was attentive and ready to lend a hand.

The French tennis shoe since 1936 was one of his favourite quotes, which was repeated as more people entered the store. I soon found that it was also worn by the legendary John Lennon amongst others. The shoes were pretty cool, and accompanied with the owners expertise on the different types of leather, it was a bit of an education in the art form of shoe making. I tried on a couple of shoes, and felt very comfortable sitting on the comfortable couches, while the owner judged my shoe size by looking at my feet - first time thats happened. Overall, I didn't buy the shoes, as I need to conserve the coin for an upcoming trip overseas, but I will get a pair some time in the future as they look fantastic, and are reasonably priced for their quality. Fantastic customer service, and a real relaxed vibe in store.

The French tennis shoe company has come a long way from 1936 (at least that's what the date is on the logo). The small store looks like an old French parlour complete with a couple of couches, bookshelves and small tables displaying the collection of Springcourt (tennis style shoes) and Schmoove (the casual men's dress shoe line started by grandson of the founder). The Springcourt tennis shoes were a pretty big deal back in the 60's when John Lennon wore a pair on the Abby Road album cover (at least that's what the salesman told us). My fiancé was impressed by the handmade feel and well placed design of the Schmoove collection. He tried on a couple of shoes, but they didn't have his size in the style he wanted (that always happens when you find a good pair of unique shoes. They never have the right size. Happened to me last week). The staff was friendly, helpful and informative. Overall a great customer experience. The guitar player is such a great touch.

The shoes are colourful, leather or fur and made with tender loving care. No one has the range and the sizes that Squire has. It is fantastic to find a shoe shop that has a good selection for a small foot, especially sizes 39 and 40. (Which is 6 and 6 1/2). The shop itself is very comfortable and the sales assistant (owner) has a really lovely manner when talking shoes. Shoes are obviously his passion. We spent a good hour in this shop laughing and enjoying good conversation while I tried several pairs of shoes. Yes bought two pairs!
