I have been here a few times and still cannot figure out why it has such a high rating. I wasn't very hungry so I decided to order a light meal, appetizer, soup and salad. All of the food came out at one time so my decision was to eat the soup first. Not a lot of flavor in the wedding soup, very bland. I needed to add salt just to taste something. Ok, the fried calamari was next. The coating was very thick and heavy reminding me of how fried clams are prepared. I really couldn't taste the calamari, only the breading. I ate a few pieces and decided to move on to the salad. I asked for the house vinaigrette and was pleased with it. The salad was relatively small with chopped up iceberg lettuce, a few slices of mushy tomato's, shredded carrot and pieces of cucumber. There were a few, what seemed to me, canned olives. I enjoyed the salad. The service was good and the people were nice, I just wish the food was better. read more

I chose this place for the reviews. It didn't disappoint. I was in town with 2 colleagues for work, and Tammy was probably the sweetest server I have ever seen. She made us feel comfortable and welcomed. The bruschetta was different from what I am used to, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Try something with bacciamata sauce. And be sure to order dessert, even if you are full and have to take it home for later. I had the pumpkin cheesecake (for breakfast the next morning in the hotel) and it was awesome. And Tammy...when I opened my bag of leftovers, she had written on the boxes, and left me extra napkins and plastic utensils. I travel for work, so I have probably had more authentic Italian somewhere else, but I haven't had such pleasant, friendly, even sweet service anywhere else. Huge fan of this good old school Italian joint. Take my wife and 3 year old son every other week, and all the staff treats us like family. I go for the fried chicken special (Sunday & Wednesday's) which is half a chicken, side of spaghetti and side of Cole slaw. My wife and son go with their marinara sauce over spaghetti and rigatoni. We had left 4 stars until having revisited Gios a few more times to see if their quality food and service was consistent, and yes it was and so now giving them 5 stars for a very nice business that genuinely earns our respect: Very Nice Atmosphere, Service, And The Food Is Definitely Above Average Left the kids at home and me n my husband went back for the 7th time here at Gio's located on Pennsylvania Ave Weirton West Virginia.There sauce is pretty darn good (nowhere near those restaurant's sauce that tastes like they bought it off of wally world's shelf and then tried to doctor it up) The waitresses actually pay attention to the details of how we like something prepared whether it being leaving something on the side, no ice in our drinks, etc. Their place has always been kept clean. The only complaint we would have is we didn't care for their brochette all that much. Yes, we know each Italian restaurant often prepares it differently but after having brochette for the first time at Iggys in Toronto Ohio and loving it, we now can't help but comparing all brochette to it :o) Well please keep up the good business Gio's... in all seriousness we don't have any restaurants here in the panhandle area of Weirton WV and Steubenville Oh, and so PLEASE don't become like the countless other restaurants who grossly hype up their food and service with bs advertisement and then waste our time and money on them.... but eh the millennials who don't know what good food, service, and value really is, will end up offsetting the average and poor reviews with their false positive and otherwise misguided positive reviews read more

I just had one of the worst experience's . walked in for dinner at 7pm for my birthday.ordered a beer and when it came out it was cool. Not cold. But it gets worse. Went to order and was told we don't have any steaks. They have 3 different ones on the menu. Decided to pay for our beer and leave. We didn't even drink the warm beers.Waitress wasn't happy. Went to leave and stopped at hostess to give feedback about everything. Didn't even to finish statement when she interrupts me and doesn't even want to hear what I had to say. And I was being very nice. I turned and said. Nevermind I will never be back .... And I get takeout from there several times a month and eat in several more. Anyways service staff stinks. My family (18 people) went to Gio's for Father's Day. After waiting over an hour, our food arrived and five of us received raw pasta. We mentioned this to the waiter, he claims to have told the owner the problem. No attempt was made to resolve this issue. The "owner" didn't talk to us about the problem until we asked to speak with her. She was very rude and unprofessional and did not attempt to resolve the situation. As I paid the bill that was over $330, I was verbally assaulted by some unknown person at the cashier stand, I am assuming he was related to the owner. He was either drunk or clueless about how to serve customers. The food was uncooked and the "owners" are not concerned when it comes to providing quality service. We will not ever go back to this restaurant and the health department will be contacted on Monday. read more
