After many many unanswered calls and emails, an appointment was set up and the tech arrived - late- and within 5 minutes said the problem was an electrical issue to the power source. We called ComEd - no electric issue from the line to the meter. Called 3 electricians - no electrical issue to the elevator. We need an elevator technician. Called back to Essential. Mary Ellen is extremely unhelpful. Sent emails to understand the problem, asked for a phone call to get better explanation of the problem. NO CALL. Had to hound and hound to get any information - Still nothing. FInally caught Mary Ellen, and she told me that she would "See what she could do" - They want me to pay for the tech coming out - but REFUSE to tell me what the problem he claims he found - they will not stand behind their work and meet with us and the electrician to tell us what they feel is wrong. I will pay for service when the service is rendered - but if you can't stand behind your claims and 4 companies tell us that the problem is not what you claim - YOU should NOT be in business.

AVOID THIS COMPANY!!!! THESE PEOPLE ARE CROOKS!!!…read more I have a 2-stop elevator in my house and the door would not unlock on the 2nd floor. I called Mid-American and told them what was going on. The woman on the phone said a tech would come out and diagnose the problem quickly (usually within 15 minutes) and let us know if the problem could be fixed. The tech poked around the elevator and never let us know if the problem was fixable on the spot. Only after 2 hours did he say he could not fix the problem and would need to order a new part and come back later to install the part. Also, during the 2 hours, I asked the tech if he had an extra key to open the locked door in an emergency and he looked in his truck for 15 minutes to no avail. (15 minutes may not sound like a long time, but when the company was charging me $224/hour for labor that 15 minutes cost me $56!!!!!) Now comes the expensive part and an example of how this company does business. I received a quote for a tech to come out and install the needed part and was told it would cost me AN ADDITIONAL $775!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I called another elevator company for a quote and informed them of the problem and they gave me a quote of $370!!! That's right, Mid American wanted to charge me AN EXTRA $405 for no reason!!!!! The other company came out and installed the $32 part and the elevator is working again and the final bill came out to $357, which was cheaper than what they quoted. The part only cost $32, which means Mid American wanted to charge me $743 FOR LABOR apparently!!! This is a horrible company. NEVER use them!!!! They just want to steal your money!!!!
