There is also a Starbucks here, although it didn't look too welcoming. It felt so uncomfortable that they openly admitted they did not trust customers to have food items in the fridges, and kept them all in the back - I totally understand loss prevention but I've never seen any Starbucks locations do this other than this one. The car park is HUGE, it felt way too big, but I'm sure due to the varied things to do and eat here, it can get quite busy, especially in such a peak location, being right off the motorway it makes it easily accessible through all points of the country. PRO TIP: If you're going on a longer journey, make this a stop off to get a bite to eat or something to drink, you have a selection of brands and you're not paying the high prices of motorway service stations. There is a small selection of shops here too, but nothing too special, this isn't really a place you'd come to shop. There's a sporting goods store and a WHSmith Travel location as I could recall, that's pretty much it. 4* - I like this place, it's pretty cool and certainly a good spot for a family day out.

Or maybe something more alabrate like Alton Towers Theme Park. But years ago in the somewhat posh area of Hunters Bar, Sheffield, people found their amusement in different ways. At the rear end of the Botanical Gardens you will find, hidden from view by dense trees and bushes, the remains of a Bear Pit. A large circular pit dug out off the soft earth, then lined with sandstones. It looks like they laid the stones as drystone walling because there's no sign of any motar between the stones. There's a large entrance at the rear, where obviously the bear was lead into the torturous pit, where we can assume the poor animal was torturously ill treated by the gawping men and women who leared over the top of the open pit. Thank God we've learnt to treat wild animals with respect these days and done away with these hidious amusement arcades of the 19th. Centruary. But having said that, if you're into historic amusements it's still interesting to see The Bear Pit, a true historic gem from days gone by.

Well it's exactly what it says on the tin! it's bowling!…read more It's now actually called tenpin but not much has changed, although now it as it's own Quasar! and if you've never played - have a go! it's so much fun. Basically, what happens is you go in and after a brief training video your fitted with a plastic shield and given a 'laser' gun. (don't worry it's totally harmless!) and then you go into a darkened room (don't wear white as they're are lots of ultra violet lights which add to the atmosphere). you're separated into 2 teams and given a base to guard, the idea is that each team attack the other base and score points which are all recorded and the score is given out to you at the end. You can also shoot each others which renders you unable to fire your gun for a few seconds and scores points for the other team. Not so good for little kids, but great for teenagers and I've seen quite a few stag parties have a go! Back to the bowling - it's tenpin and you can chose to go it alone or have bumpers, there's also the use of cradles for the less able bodied folks and little kids. They have a fully licenced bar aswell, and you can order food and drink to be delivered straight to your bowling lane! easy!

Arcade Club is an absolute gem - a massive warehouse filled with all kinds of arcade machines and an absolute paradise for anyone who loves gaming. Apparently it's the largest venue of its type in Europe! We came and bought a day ticket which gets you a wrist band for all day access. Once inside, every single game is free to play, and there's enough here to keep you occupied and entertained for a very long time indeed. The ground floor has a mixture of vintage machines, modern games, funfair games and even some VR rigs. You can then head to the first floor where there's a mixture of newer games and funfair games. Up to the second floor and you'll find a huge variety of machines with lots from Japan - dance and rhythm games, pinball machines and lots of 90s classic arcade games. Finally there's the fourth floor, packed with vintage machines like Pac Man, Asteroids, Smash TV and... well, pretty much anything you care to mention. There's a bar on site which also serves pizza in case you get peckish... and you probably will because there's so much to see and play here, you'll be here a very long time. With 10 minutes we were placed on a lane. 20 minutes later my family and I were told we had to leave as they had double booked us and they were delayed. I was offered a refund. My sons birthday was ruined and after driving for 3 hours to get there as this was the only hollywood bowl with space to book on a Saturday. My 11 year son was so disappointed and was left embarrassed that I had asked family members to travel so far to be removed from the activities through no fault of my own. This was an awful experience and I would NEVER RECOMMEND anyone booking a visit here.
