My old hairdresser at the other end of town I've been going to years retired. In desperate need of a hair cut , I chose Ginger Rubio because it was close by and I went in blindly for a trim - but came out with an amazing haircut! Would recommend Heather!! I didn't even know my hair could curl, no other hairdresser had pointed this out before . I've received over 10 compliments on the cut - Heather is skilled at drawing out curls in my previously lifeless hair, and was pleasant to chat too! She spent extra time with me and I could tell she took great pride in her work. The salon is tastefully decorated in colourful art that is nice to look at. I scheduled an appointment same day with Christopher. I hadnt gotten a professional cut in years because of my curly hair. (Aka ive had bad experiences before) He listened to the hair style I wanted and took extra time to get it the way I wanted even though it was close to closing. I appreciated that he took the time to style it for me. And now after about a week, I am loving it even more with my curly hair and new bangs! I have been going to Tony Barbuto for nearly five years and love my hair every time I leave the salon! We've done root touch-up, highlights, low lights, fantasy color - you name it - and Tony has never missed a beat. He is communicative, thoughtful, and innovative in approach to color application. When I wanted to do something he'd not done before he researched options, and collaborated with his on-site colleagues. The stylists work together as needed and support one another. Ginger Rubio is a salon with a cute interior and talented stylists on a tucked-away street in The Mission. I have been seeing Tony Lymon for cuts and color for about six months, and he is very skilled in both technical execution and style. I went to Tony for contrasting black and white highlights, initially not knowing this is challenging work to pull off. Not only did Tony deliver this look flawlessly, but I feel confident and fresh with the results. A large part of this is because of the compliments I receive after a visit with him. Terrible service. In 1 session, the man came in clearly hung-over and still high on something. Later, I went in to get my roots retouched and they used 0 protective measures for the rest of my hair. The general area is super sketch too. There are many salons in the San Francisco area worth the money. Fortunately, I found an AMAZING salon in Nob Hill called Be Bright. Wendy is incredible! Her vibe is so fun and it's like she looked into my mind and saw the exact hairstyle I wanted.

After my long time stylist moved to socal, I was worried I wouldn't be able to find someone else that could cut my hair. Thank God one of my friends recommended Wendy at Ginger Rubio. I've been going to her for 5+ years now and she's amazing at haircuts. I have a very large amount of fine hair, which can be tricky for a lot of stylists, but Wendy knows how to use scissors (no razors) and is particularly skilled at dry cuts. I saw her two weeks ago and I'm getting CONSTANT compliments on my hair, she cuts it in a way to bring out it's natural wave without me having to style it at all. The dream! I'd drive hours to see her, but luckily her salon is in the middle of the mission with lots of parking available. I can't recommend her enough, especially if you have "difficult to cut" hair. read more

I've been to Ginger Rubio a few times for a haircut (Kristen, then Tiffany) and have always had great experiences. Kelle was my first experience with dramatic color (from my natural dark hair to pink), and she was just great. She talked me through the whole process, told me what she was doing, and mixed up a color palette for me to see before she put it on my hair. She's been doing hair for almost 20 years, so I highly recommend going to her and also trusting her to do her thing! I brought in a few reference images, but really deferred to her on the final product, once I had explained what I wanted. She, Tiffany (the other stylist working that day) and I also had great conversation the whole day. What a great salon space! I love the featured artwork that they have there and all the happy and lush plants. I got my hair cut and colored by Alex and she is gosh darn talented and just super cool. I've been getting my hair cut with Alex for years and have followed her from salon to salon because she is that talented :) This place is lucky to have her. I met Alex in passing and complimented her hair! She told me she did it herself so I booked an appointment with her for a cut and color correction. She really wowed me !She's very prompt and transparent and that's something i really appreciate in a salon. Sometimes it can be nerve racking getting your hair cut but Alex is communicative for each step and makes you laugh during it. She's the first stylist I ever had that was punctual with our appointment and didn't make me feel rushed at all! She's also the first stylist I've had that didnt hurt me while shampooing or wash off my makeup ! This one star review does not reflect my feelings about Ginger Rubio as a whole, but only my experience with Anthony. I have been going to Anthony for years, and he is a fantastic colorist. My hair always pops and he has always taken great care to make it perfect. That said, today was the third time this year that my appointment to touch up my roots has been canceled less than 45 minutes before my appointment. I understand that it's the week of Christmas, and I had even talked to him about making an appointment for last week, but he assured me today would be great. I just finished covering my beautiful platinum hair with a box dye that matches my natural color because I have a wedding out of town next week, and I'm leaving Christmas day. A friend of mine recommended this place and Tiffany specifically, so I made an appointment 4 days out for Tiffany, and she texts me only an hour and twenty minutes before the appointment to let me know she's bumping me for another client and there's no other availability for today! This place is right in my neighborhood - and I am so glad I found it! I was walking home from work and was pleasantly surprised to find GR! I went in and picked up some B&B products and met Anthony and his adorable pup, Chester. I had never seen any of his work - but I was impressed with how friendly he was since I was just stopping by for product late one evening. I called a few days later and made an appointment and had such a great time this Saturday at the salon. Everyone was ultra friendly and generally happy to be there. The big open windows were so nice and I was happy that I still got to enjoy the beautiful day while getting my hair cut and highlighted. I needed a good laugh and I definitely got that too. Started with coffee and then had a glass of wine - which also made the experience amazing and relaxing. I will definitely be going back - I already made my next appointment! I recently had a haircut by Alex and I couldn't be happier with my experience! The salon space is light and airy, and a nice place to spend some time treating yourself. Alex is a super talented stylist and is a master of all styles and textures. I always procrastinate my visits to the hair saloon. I do not usually like to have my hair cut. However, this time it was different. It is my first time at Ginger Rubio and I was lucky enough to have Christopher as my stylist. As an extremely skilled stylist, he is very smart and a great conversationalists. He can take the conversation from socio-economic problem to the linguistic roots of Finnish-Hungarian-Turk. He is an attentive listener and very emphatic. Ginger Rubio is a true San Francisco gem. The stylists are diverse, warm and amazing people who also happen to do great hair on an equally warm, diverse and amazing clientele. I have always felt welcomed and valued here and I love the atmosphere. I also love how awesome my hair is. I've been all shades of the rainbow, but mostly long and highlighted blonde. I can't say enough good things. Everyone there knows their stuff - but nobody is an asshole about it. I am giving this salon three stars because the salon as a whole seems to be an awesome place with really talented stylists. It's a great fun and comfortable atmosphere and clients were walking out with beautiful hair. But I was really unhappy with my hair, and it cost 400$- which is the standard price for what I wanted but it should have been way better. I should have said something to the stylist which was my fault, I am a passive non confrontational person so I couldn't bring myself to complain. I went in to see Tiffany and asked for an ombre and walked out with almost a full head of brassy badly toned blonde hair with a shadowed root, but it wasn't blended at all and just looked like a grown out bleach job. She put the bleach on my head and walked outside and said she would be back in 10 minutes. 25 minutes later she comes back and says "oh it's a bit lighter than what I was going for I hope that's okay". I was internally really upset. You could see the brush lines at the roots where she applied the bleach and it wasn't blended at all. The cut was okay although she took way more off then I asked. She styled it fine and I grew to live with it- but if I'm spending 400$ I expect excellent hair. I felt bad because she said she had been hit really hard financially by the pandemic and insisted I pay in cash which I found odd. Once the not so good toner job she did washed out over the months my hair looked awful. Just a yellow orange brassy mess. Her Instagram flaunts beautiful dye jobs and cuts and the woman before me walked out with a gorgeous blonde balayage so I felt really upset that she put such little effort into my hair when I could tell she was capable of better work. Overall as I said the salon was great- but I would not recommend going to Tiffany. Her work is not consistent. read more

Went here on a whim on a Sunday and Kelle cut my hair. She and everyone there were really sweet and easy to talk to. I showed Kelle 2 pictures of what I had in mind, and for the first time in my life I got exactly what I wanted! She showed me a new technique to use with the blow dryer (that I have yet to master). Pretty standard and what I always get when I am having my hair done for a party. I have medium long straight hair and the stylist did a good job, I was happy with the result. I thought I found my new go to salon until she charged me $100 for a simple blow out. Their website states $50+ for the blow out and I understand that price might vary slightly but seriously, charging me double their stated price is not ok. I got a cut by Melissa who was amazing! After years of straightening my hair I took the pandemic as the opportunity to bring my natural curly/wavy hair back to life. Melissa understands that curly hair needs special attention and skills and she gave me a great cut that added volume and depth while keeping its length. Ok. Fine atmosphere and got a glass of wine or two. Nice. The worst haircut I have ever had in my life. Hands down. Not straight at the back, chunky in the worst way possible. I cannot even style it and have used gobs of styling stuff (and tried a few kinds). If you can imagine your 65 year old mothers hairstyle - the short one that fluffs out, but with a horrible swoopy front that does NOT look cool - that's the cut I got. I.e.
