New library, as seen from Sixth Street near Hanna Street.

Gilroy has a permanent public library again! After a few years of demolishing the old library, relocating to a temporary spot on Monterey Street, and constructing the new library, the Gilroy Library had its grand opening celebration on April 28. The new library is pretty sweet. It's a lovely two-story building featuring modern architectural features under a traditional Spanish tile roof, a spacious lobby, landscaped courtyard, lounge-y seats, free computers to use by the hour, free wi-fi, and lots of books, media, and other reading material (of course!). If you're itching to use your piece of plastic, leave your credit card at home and have at it with your library card here. This is easily my favorite new building in Gilroy and it beams with civic pride. Library patrons (or people who use this place to as free day care for your kids): please take good care of this place so it can retain its beauty for years to come!

My four year old and I absolutely love this place. The toddler section is great with its two toddler computers, a mom can just park your child there and for 30 min. (each session is 30 min) read or use your laptop with library wifi while they are entertained. They have added two Lego tables where kids can play Legos at once together it is great. Also there are so many free programs going on just pay attention to the flyers there is something for everyone. One killer deal is to save 5 library checkout receipts and if you are a Gilroy resident, 5 receipts = 1 free admission to Gilroy Gardens. With their reading program I received a free tote bag, free dvd and a free flash drive. The library including the restrooms are clean and organized. If you are even remotely interested just go you will be hooked.

Amazing and helpful staff. We need more libraries like this. Large selection of literature, DVD's, etc.

Nice, clean library with quiet rooms. They even offer free yoga and other hobby related free classes.

I love the free zumba classes on Tuesdays! They don't have my gym here in Gilroy so this helps!

Most reviews are true. This isn't your wretched library. There are two floors with many study desks to choose from.

I attended gav, and received my AA is child development. The school itself is nice. I had a…read moredifficult time with the school counselors. When I first started and spoke with a counselors and explained I wanted to teach he laughed and said there is no money in that. I'll never forget it! I spent 5 years getting my AA I left which 80 units and luckily my four year university took all of them and applied it to my bachelors degree. I wish I had more guidance during the process and literally learned as I went I was excited to take all these classes but I somewhat fell off the path and went class crazy. The instructors were great, my only advice would be choose a counselor that supports you.

I'm so tired of dealing with how dismissive the chef is at times. About two weeks ago around 11:20…read moreAM, I politely asked for a burger and he straight up just said no. But the second I changed my order to tenders and fries, his entire mood flipped and suddenly he could do his job. I have never seen anyone actually get a burger or anything else from him besides tenders and fries, or sometimes burritos during breakfast. Literally everyone else on campus is just eating sushi, Chinese food, or Mexican food from the other vendors because dealing with him is such a joke. Then this morning, my friend ordered a breakfast burrito from the same guy and got the exact same lazy, dismissive vibe even though the school literally advertises ALL DAY breakfast and lunch. Even when I just walk by the grill to grab a snack, he just stands there giving me an unwelcoming glare. It honestly feels like he's just trying to force everyone to use the online ordering website so he doesn't have to deal with people face to face. But the website tacks on so many extra service fees, card taxes, and customization charges that it's not even worth it. Plus, he doesn't even tell anyone they are supposed to use the website, so how the hell are we supposed to know how to order if he doesn't say anything and just refuses service at the register? If you want us to use the site, just say that professionally instead of flat out refusing to serve students. At this point, I'm completely done trying to get food from him. I'm just going to stick to the campus sushi or go hit up the taco vendor instead. The food at the grill is fine, but dealing with that gatekeeping attitude just to get a standard lunch isn't worth the headache. I have even stood in line and watched him flat out refuse to make a tuna melt for the guy in front of me, talking to him incredibly rudely for absolutely no reason. It just proves that he is actively shutting down the hot grill menu because he doesn't want to do the work.
