The pictures and reviews scared me, but I had business last week in Gilmer, and stayed the night…read more The room was clean and fresh, except for the bathtub. There's no way to take a shower. There was no knob, or anything to turn to make the shower activate. The tub was nasty, but I had to bathe, so I was forced to take a bath. The cost was $98, which was reasonable. I'd stay there again, but would need a room with a shower.

*Long read* Worst…read morerun business I've ever witnessed. Booked for a week on a business trip, there was a place I was going to stay at in Mount Pleasant, but it was booked up. Went to check in around 1pm, room wasn't ready but they made my keycard so I could get in after getting back after midnight. When I get back to the room around 1am, deep smoke smell in the room, I didn't even know it was legal in 2023 to smoke in commercial buildings but ughh, just nasty smelling. On day 2 they call to tell me they will be replacing the carpet in the room on day 3 of my visit, I told them I will be in the room until after 1, they could come after no problem. They agreed and I thought that was the end of that. 6:55am of day 3 the phone in the room rings and they tell me they're coming up and I have to get out of the room, (mind you I am getting back to room around 1 am each morning and not getting in the bed to sleep until 2:30 at the earliest after showing and winding down.) I told them they could move me to a different room, preferably non smoking, if they wanted me out before 1 that this had already been discussed. Very argumentative guy working when I got down to the lobby was mad that I couldn't carry all my things at once (suitcase, case of water, snacks, shoe bag, etcetera.) told me I was holding up his crew that was already on the clock. I told him soon as he gives me another room key I'll go and get the rest of my things and they could get to work. Then, he told me I would have to pay about $100 to move to a new room... I told him I would be more than happy to take my self back to the room I've already paid for and I was doing him a favor. I pulled out my phone to call my boss to authorize ANOTHER room purchase on my card for some BS, the guy at the counter asked me what calling someone was going to do and once again told me to hurry up and I was supposed to have all my things out of the first room already. As I handed him my card I told him he was more than welcome to come carry the rest of my stuff to my new room if he was so worried about it. They never charged my card!!!!! he only wanted to be an inconvenience... crazy.. The new room didn't lock, so I shoved the chair behind the door as I just knew someone at some point from the staff would try to come in. I took all my stuff with me when I left each day, big PITA. Day 4 someone knocked on the door around noon, they were there to take the AC out of the wall to clean the coils and would reinstall it, took about 10 minutes, but still. That night I my card wouldn't open the door so I had to get another made from the staff, apparently they "didn't put enough days on my card" I told the guy thank you, and got not a single word or smile in return. Morning 5 I was woken before 8am by someone trying to force themselves past the barricaded door. At this point I decided I would just drive the extra few hours a day and did not go back for the last 2 nights as I wasn't getting to sleep more than 5ish hours without interruption anyways.

Ha!). My whole family ended up staying at the Best Western (which I heard NOT the best choice after their stay...) and we were in a hunt to find an affordable option that didn't include infestations of ANY sorts. We stumbled upon the Munzesheimer Manor on Hotels.com and I was slightly hesitant from the price, but there was only one room available (The Kringle Cottage) in the entire town and I emailed an inquiry to Ashlee. Just from her email, I felt sincerely welcomed and right at home, so even though the price was a little more than we initially wanted to pay, we booked! My next email to her had to deal with food preferences. The last thing I wanted to be was a bother, but since the price included breakfast, I thought I would ask if she would have any options without meat, dairy, or egg (vegan). I was happy to make other accommodations if that wasn't an option, but she happily emailed me back with an "of course!" without hesitation. We were THRILLED. She mentioned that she had a gluten free guest staying that same weekend and she is always cooking for allergies or preferences. So not only was Ashlee going to provide us with food, but when we got back from the wedding, there were freshly baked vegan brownies on our bed! (Jaw dropped with hungry drool!). In the morning she greeted us on our porch with hot tea (our preference over coffee) and at 9am we walked into the dining room to gourmet meals and beautifully set table with freshly squeezed OJ, maple chia seed pudding with fresh fruit, and German pancakes with a fresh strawberry drizzle. (Food cherubs singing!!) Besides the food and fabulous service, our Kringle Cottage was the cutest damn thing west of the Mississippi!! We had our own little porch with swing and all, a claw foot tub with an adorable heated furnace nearby, and the year-round comfort (I don't care how old you are!) of Christmas decorations and cheer! It was the BEST B&B/hotel/motel stay we have EVER had! If you are even thinking twice about booking a room here or thinking of swinging through this sweet little town, PLEASE DO!! If we ever drive up to Dallas again, we will be going out of our way to stay here! :) Can't say enough about the sweet southern hospitality we received.

My dearest beloved lady companion and I have been avid focused, discriminating, varied travelers…read morefor 25 years and I've fished East Texas and surrounding areas for about 50 years. Out of the 604 nights we've spent away from home in that time in places ranging from sketchy to highly luxurious, the three we enjoyed in Scenic View's motel were among the very, very best. Ellison Creek Reservoir aka Lone Star Lake turned out to be one of our favorites in the state. It is beautiful and uncrowded, with clear water and abundant vegetation to support bass fishing. The people in the town of Lone Star were very nice. The Scenic View facility is very clean, safe, pleasant, and operated with a most impressive devotion to quality and friendliness. The owners and operators since 1998, Jim and Kim, are super cool, dedicated to guest enjoyment, and clearly have reinvested abundantly in the property. They are starkly authentic and decent souls. Bass fishing was good even during a cold front. Tap water was tasty, no need to tote bottled. Beds were comfy. Hot water did not run out. The boat ramp was good and well-lit. Dockage with power or park boat trailer in front of cabin/motel door and charge up. Multiple grill-BBQ-smoker options. The kitchenette worked great, was very helpful, and there is good restaurant food within walking distance. Two bed double occupancy in the motel was $80.48 per night TOTAL final cost with no cleaning fee, etc. Coin-op laundry facilities are at motel rear, workshop side. That area has an almost supernatural ability to pull one fantastic sunset after another from the heavens, and the comfortable sheltered lower outdoor level of the store is a great place from which to watch them. So is the open deck atop the store. And sunset happens but once a day, but all day lasts....wait for it....all day! Watching a storm roll in at dawn from there was a treat. Relaxing and gazing out at a forested lake is simply fulfilling. The lake is very scenic with pine and hardwood forest and is much smaller than the chaos-riddled metro reservoirs many of their guests are used to. We were often the only boat on the lake. Lakeside properties are fun to look at and were well-kept. The residents were friendly, unlike what I've experienced at some places, and their docks and boathouses held fish. Lots of wildlife - bald eagles, river otter family of 5, raccoon family of 5, dozens and dozens of bird species, white pelicans, herons, cranes, and so on. Children must be supervised at all times and pets are not allowed in the motel or cabin. Yes, that's not ideal for some, but for everyone else, well, it's.....uh.....AWESOME, casting (see what I did there?) away a big chunk of things that can make leisure days go sideways. It's pleasingly close to the DFW metroplex and the drive through the middle instead of using I-30 or I-20 is very pleasant Texas backroad fun. Bortle stage 3 dark skies are just 15 minutes away to the ENE with ample gravel county roads with turnouts for stargazers. Lake O' the Pines is just a few minutes SE. Daingerfield SP. Jefferson. The most excellent Welsh Reservoir power plant cold water fishery. As part of a loop tour of the bevy of great lakes in E TX, SV is a great base camp. Amusingly, we arrived intending to spend a day or two of the four fishing Pines, a longtime favorite of ours, but were so happy with Scenic View facility and Lone Star Lake that we never left. Why go out for steak when there's already a tomahawk ribeye in your lap? The best part of this great experience was making friends with several of the soundly and roundly pleasant, considerate, and interesting staff, guests, and neighborhood residents, who often get together for events such as Thirsty Thursday and have a just plain good ol' time. I expect some of those associations will last for a long time. Hopefully, days other than Thursday get thirsty, too, for we plan to return regularly. A+ drenched in 5 star sauce.

Love this place!!! Truly a unique experience that one must enjoy!!! Thanks Kim & Jimread more

For a place that underwent a "remodel" they should sue the company that did it and try again. The door does not seal all the way, the air conditioner makes this horrid scratching sound which they could not figure out what was causing it. The pillows are some of the worst pillows one could ask for. The sink was clogged and there was a dead bug that came out of the drain. They don't offer turndown service on the weekend during Covid due to short staff. The trim that should be attached to the wall isn't at all, it's literally laying on the floor. The outlet for the tv was definitely cut by hand and not done properly at all or ever finished by the looks of it. The bathroom is a mess from the get go, I stand 6'3 and I'm used to having to duck under most shower heads. This one I had to crouch so I could get wet and the finish of the tub is cracked and missing in places which accompanies the burn marks on the side of it. The faucet head itself is a good half inch out of the wall which is beyond me. The WiFi is constantly going down or when it is working it's horribly slow. The fixtures here look like they were bought from IKEA and do not go well together at all. After considering everything I can't bring myself to give this place a better rating. I tried to find something that made it worth it and I just couldn't. This place is in need of some serious help and the air conditioner needs either an exorcism or to be put out to pasture.
