Our son Benjamin Weiss was so sick with unknown Mental Health issues he took his own life on 1/14/2022 while home 1 Friday from school. Heart broken we chose a local funeral home in Suffolk, VA. Due to bad customer service, and an outrageous price of $12k we decided to move him to Hertford County Undertakers from the suggestion of our Pastor. When we met with Mrs. Cooper we were angry, and confused. Immediately our nerves were calmed, and were relieved with the price she quoted us. The final price was very reasonable. She never tried taking advantage of us like the other home. The staff was amazing to the receptionist, the driver, Mrs. Taylor and that perfect slideshow of my baby, the guys that dug his whole, the guy that made my baby look like himself, and Mrs. Mildred. After the service she's called to check on us which really made us happy. Last week we were shocked by this beautiful name plate that was on his grave. We are so thankful to Hertford County Undertakers for their perfect professional services. The Weiss Family thank you for your help.

Raleigh was on top of the logistics, follow-up, and very kind. The younger guy with long hair seemed to have all the right answers. I appreciated the transparency in pricing, soft human touch, & simplicity. Rouse, thank you for taking care of my father!!! (Note: Prior to visiting Rouse, I stopped a different funeral home and the experience was night-and-day in comparison to Rouse. The other funeral home had zero empathy/ emotional intelligence, and they wanted to charge me 2x what Rouse charged.)

She was thorough and took care of everything to allow our family to grieve without worrying about the many particulars that had to be dealt with during this time. I am not local to Rouse, I'm in another state, so having to find a service was concerning but Linda quickly put those concerns to rest for me. The Albert G. Horton Memorial Cemetery is a State Veterans Cemetery on Milners Road in a rural area…read moreof Suffolk. Its 2004 opening provided a military cemetery for the huge military community that chose to retire in Coastal Virginia. The cemetery is one of a number of regional cemeteries run by the Virginia Department of Veterans Services, Eligible Veterans receive one free burial site & USDVA provided outer burial receptions/crypts & headstones. Should a veterans's wife predecease him, the headstone is inscribed with her information facing forward. When the veteran dies his information is inserted on the opposite side and the headstone rotated so his information faces the front, My Uncle had originally planned to be buried at Arlington. After his wife died, the funeral director mentioned Albert Horton. When we left my Uncle asked what I thought. We both had individually felt that it would be a place where we could more easily visit her. We toured the next day. Even the drive down Milners Road is picturesque. The cemetery itself was clean, new and beautifully laid out. The staff was friendly. The decision was made. At that time word of the beautiful Veterans Cemetery had not yet widely spread. She received a convenient plot near the drive through and near a bench. There appeared to be space for burials for many years. That hasn't been the case. The Cemetery filled over the years and has been expanded. When my Uncle died I had my first experience with the Pavilion, which is used to provide a military graveyard service with Honor Guard. It was a moving experience for the man I considered my second father. The Honor Guard was a special final recognition for the retired Naval Commander, buried in his uniform, who had served in WWII, Korean & Vietnam. Albert Horton Veterans Cemetery continues to serve as a valued source for a final resting place for those who have served our country. Wreaths across America places gorgeous holiday wreaths on each grave. The Horton Wreath Society places wreaths on military holidays. Contributions can be made and are encouraged. Whether the burial be a traditional plot with stone, a columbarium or in ground urn, there is no cost for those Veterans who qualify. Thank you to the Virginia Department of Veterans Services. Virginia Veterans Cemeteries are such a valued contribution provided to our Veterans.

A well maintained small cemetery beside Kitty Hawk Elementary School and adjacent to Duck Woods…read moreGolf Course. The graves date back to early 1900's from what I could see. My family walks, or bikes along the side when on vacation. The cemetery can be driven on and has a circular path. There are no outbuildings on the property. It appears there is still some room for additional plots. Many beautiful trees and grave sites with flowers. I have seen burials as recently as last year. Many of those buried on the property are founding members of the Southern Shores community.
