Enfield Farmer's Market operated for several years on Wednesdays and its late afternoon and evening…read morehours may have worked for some, but it was dwindling. Now. it's back on Sundays from 10am-1pm, and the town seems to have provided tables, tents and a lot more space, no longer at the Pond, but now on the Town Green, at N Main and Rte. 5. The vendors are invited to sell their goods with no spot cost, and admission for shoppers is free, family friendly and a fun activity. But, the best part is getting to know the local vendors, who have businesses in town or close by, and who are friendly and helpful, offering many more things than the old one. There is a lack of produce there, but what is there is beautiful and affordable. We got curly kale for $2, and zucchini, eggplant, and yellow squash for $3 each. We recommend these two vendors get cards made so we can review them and bring them more business. There's jewelry, crafts, bath products, masks, beef, soup mix, ice cream, produce (we need more), and freshly baked pizza. And more. We bought a raspberry-chocolate jam at another spot, and tasted it last night--absolutely fresh, home-made and delicious. We will buy some beef next time from Collins Powder Hill Farms, and maybe even go out to the farm in Enfield for other products. These also sell/deliver compost and soil. Wow. We loved Barb Gibson at Super Soups, and had a lovely chat with her about her ingredients. She was researching oils, so we told her to nix Canola and get to know Sustain, the non-GMO sunflower oil. She was friendly, receptive and caring, and that will make us loyal customers. Her 30 minute soup mixes look awesome. Welcome back vendors. We will be there every Sunday till you close September 27, and now that we know you, we will also visit your businesses. Shop local! And thank you to Enfield Town. You did this one right.

Johnny's has been one of my favorite produce markets for years now. In the spring, before local…read moreproduce is ready, they sell vegetable and decorative plants. They continue to carry flower plants and herbs into the summer and fall. In July they begin to carry absolutely beautiful flower bouquets that are fresh cut every day. Since they're fresh, they last so much longer than ones from the grocery store. And they have such an interesting variety of flowers in them. They have become a summer staple for us! They sell tomatoes that they grow themselves that are absolutely delicious. I always grab some extra cherry (or grape?) tomatoes to snack on while driving home. They sell other produce that they grow themselves or get from other local farms. There are signs up telling you what town and state each product is from. They carry milk and yogurt from a local dairy farm, Smyth's Trinity Farm (Enfield, CT). The chocolate milk is heavenly. They also started stocking fresh bread from Hartford Baking Company. Johnny's has been great during Covid. The store has the doors open and fans running, providing plenty of ventilation. They require masks and social distancing. The employees are always wearing masks (and wearing them properly, covering nose and mouth) which makes me feel comfortable bringing my 1 year old, who cannot wear a mask, in with me.

"When are you gonna come down? When are you going to land?…read moreI should have stayed on the farm I should have listened to my old man" (Elton John) Bielonko Farms is a cute modestly sized farmstand in scenic Suffield, CT -more or less halfway between Bradley Airport and the Massachusetts border. They sell gorgeous locally farmed produce like corn, tomatoes, squash, peppers, cucumbers and beans. Being close to Halloween, we saw scores of pumpkins of every size and description everywhere. Flowers were also well represented with overflowing flowerpots and baskets bursting with color in every direction. They feature two big signs that will catch your attention. One says, "Thanks to All Vets" and another says, "If You Can't Stop, Smile as you Go By". We were on a mission to pick up some cornstalks to decorate the light pole on the front lawn, and we did take home a nice bundle of stalks for $10. It was brimming with humongous ears of corn, which we detached and tossed into the woods, so as to discourage the bears from loitering by our front door. PRO TIP The website on their Yelp page is a broken link. Apparently, they have replaced their website with a Facebook page, which seems to be an increasingly popular trend among businesses.

My favorite were the sunflowers! We filled our trunk up, I will definitely be back next year for my fall decor.
