The bed was very comfortable and we really appreciated the high ceilings, beautiful grounds, and enjoyed our walks around the estate. If you're working like we were, note that the internet is indeed fast enough for a developer who runs team meetings to lead all their meetings! I had a spa session with massage and facial and it was excellent! I swam every day and used the sauna facilities. The locker room and pool area was kept very clean and dry. The lady attendant was fastidious in keeping the changing room dry and clean. There was a bit of an incident where one of my favorite vintage pieces I sent off to laundry was not returned to us when they dropped off our clean clothes. I had actually been at the entrance to the hotel when the cleaner dropped it off and I verbally acknowledged to her that I could see my laundry because of my vintage piece and she stated they'd be delivered to my room shortly. Front staff sent back an empty hanger amongst our other clean clothes and had lost it. We found it on the floor amongst boxes behind the reception desk. They returned my item, and apologized personally. Not a big deal and glad it was resolved.

The downside of this hotel is the aggressive pricing for wedding packages, meaning that there are many wedding parties going on. I counted six in two days, which brings a lot of drunkards to the hotel, which does not help if you're seeking a quite place to relax. Will I ever get back to this hotel, no.

In fact, it's worth saying that every staff member I talked to here were exceptionally friendly. Room was fine - minimalist, but functionary. Free wifi was painful, but the paid wifi was only a fiver, so an easy choice. Still not a super fast connection, but better than I've had at some hotels. Bathroom was a decent size, and the shower had excellent pressure. If I have to stay overnight again in Preston, then I would want to stay here again. Everything was effortless.

I think you can fish here for a small fee if staying in the hotel. We ate in the restaurant and the food was great, I had chicken pate, followed by melt in your mouth fillet of beef. There is a wide range of drinks on offer, and the shop Vintners sells plenty of wine, alongside Molton Brown products, which are also used in the rooms. Lovely little place, worth the trek.

The fish cake was so fishy not just full on potato and the chips were cooked to perfection. House wine was drinkable too! Bedrooms comfortable but there was a sewery smell from the bathroom which was slightly off putting. The games room was very old school and traditional, dark oak and some gentrified games but also a tv and a darts boas. It was £70 a room in a Saturday night - good value if you're not up for £125 for the Marriott one mile down the road!

The service team seemed to be distracted towards the end of the meal and placed a lot of emphasis on cleaning (way before we were finished with dinner). I think that shouldn't be obvious to those dining so that took a hit on the quality of the meal. The food was overall very tasty. The maran egg and scarlet prawn were my favourite dishes, especially the egg/potato chip combination, which was one of the most creative ideas I've seen in a while. The bartender needed a bit more knowledge on spirits I think, and ran out of the spirit we selected. I would say I don't love the location of the hotel, as it's right off the main road and it takes away from the ambiance. Also there are two very large dumpsters right in front of the hotel. Seems like very poor placement. All in all however, this is a great night out in Ribble Valley, and likely a nice stay as well!

This is a joke. I have never left 3 of my tasting dishes uneaten before in any restaurant, let alone one with a Michelin star. This time I barely touched my meal. For a location surrounded by great local goosnargh poultry, game, produce and supplies that England and Scotland can provide - for some reason the entire menu was Japanese infused, and not in a good way. At all. Everything that came after the 'Wagyu beef tartar with Sticky rice' was disgusting. Neither my wife nor I ate it. Not a thing. Scallops in Japanese miso broth with seaweed? No. Boney fish wing on fermented mushroom paste? No. Cold Venison that came with a piece of Liver so old and overcooked you needed your wine to get it down? No. Then came dessert. We ate the dessert, but at this point we had saved ourselves for this meal, hadn't eaten since noon and would have likely paid you 20 quid for a Big Mac. Now, when you send 3 uneaten plates in succession back to the kitchen barely touched - normally the waiter/ess or chef make note and comment. Especially at the better restaurants. Its a matter of pride to the chef. Not here. They didn't ask and certainly didn't care. I would have washed my sorrows down with the wine pairing, but at mostly 2014/5 vintages - it would have taken a few bottles since its barely been more than grape juice for more than 3 or 4 months. This was 320 pounds for two, and a complete waste of a weekend, a dinner and the money. Seriously, it was a total loss. Breakfast? Meh. The Hotel? 350 pounds a night for two single beds pushed together, a tiny TV, a view of an overfilled dumpster in their parking lot and bed sheets more akin to a Premier or Holiday Inn, and you get my drift. They dont even have down pillows, ffs. The bathroom is lovely, so is the shower - but the fact that this place somehow got accepted to the Relais and Chateaux brand speaks volumes for the desperate position the french must be in, for this is no Relais and Chateaux. Not by a wide margin. The Ellerman House in Capetown is a Relais and Chateaux. The 'Le Manoir' in Oxfordshire is Relais and Chateaux. I have no idea where this belongs but this is a substandard brand imposter yet priced similar. Go stay at the Ellerman or Le Manoir, just for a night. Then tell me Northcote is Relais and Chateaux. It's not. The fact that we picked both this hotel and the Ribble Valley as a destination, then travelled all the way to rural England to experience this only made it worse. The fact that we paid 320 pounds for a disgusting dinner, followed by 350 pounds for a mediocre room with a badly prepared breakfast only added insult to injury. We had a two night reservation for the Christmas break, but cancelled it the very day we got back to the US. Never. Again.

On arrival theres unlimited bucks fizz and canapes, you're then shown to your tables were there are bottles of red or white wine ( rose if you ask) when your bottle is empty you hold it up and its replaced very quickly meal is pre ordered starter served by you're waiter/ess. main is carvery with meat / veggi / fish choice help yourself to loads of veg / salad choices. pudding is pre ordered and served at your table. Theres a disco, and Christmas themed quiz to follow. You will get a ticket that you exchange at the bar after the meal, thats for your first drink, after that you need to take you're glass with you or you dont get served. All the drinks are named brands and there is no limit on how many times you go back to the bar. At 11.30 they serve mini fish and chips in cones then free bar closes at 12. They are doing a cheap rate on rooms if you would rather stay over. If you add up how much a meal, drink etc costs when they dont come as a package like this you can see what a bargain it is.

I recently stayed here with my wife to attend my brothers 50th birthday party in the hotel and I am…read morenot quite sure where to begin. At first all was ok with the exception that the so called double bed was about 2/3rds normal size which was strange. But then the fun and games started when the staff at the party did not appear to know how to make a drink or pour a pint. They ran out of glassware and stock and seemed all at sea behind the bar. At 11-00pm they suddenly closed the bar 2 hours ahead of schedule saying there was an IT glitch and they could not use the till which was a blatant lie. My brother had paid £1000 for the hire of the room and the bar extension until 1-00am. the hotel rooms were mostly booked out by guests attending the party as well. When challenged about the so called IT glitch they became defensive and surly and were threatening and abusive asking guests to leave the party room. One of the staff even asked me my name and when I enquired why he needed it and he heard a friend use my 1st name he said its ok I will just check the hotel register for your details which I took to be a threat that something more sinister was going to happen. Due to the complete breakdown of service all the guests were left with nowhere to go but to their rooms like naughty children. The stunning ignorance and complete lack of training, knowledge or even basic courtesy was beyond anything I have ever experienced in a hotel before and it made Fawlty Towers look like Claridge's. I contacted the General Manager Fred via email and initially he was apologetic and he agreed that the staff had lied about the reason for closing the bar and should not have done so but when I wouldn't accept his offer of a 2 night stay in the hotel and had the temerity to suggest that he might consider a partial or full refund for our disastrous stay he stopped communicating with me which suggests the staff behaviour is led from the top down. At breakfast the next morning the assistant manageress who we had spoken with the night before was ignorant and had a terrible sour face on her so much so that we could not trust her not to interfere with our breakfast and we just had coffee from the machine. I cannot recommend this hotel LOWLY enough and all I can say is if you do stay here then on your own head be it. It gets 1 star because that is the lowest I can award.

They stayed with Grannie in Carnforth, down the line, in her small home, and rode train up each morning, fresh and pink-faced from the bracing, moist, Lancashire air. He was friendly, knew how to speak to strangers. Easy fellow. A few customers'd walk in, look at the Persian rugs, and leave. Almost as if the rugs were a cover for something else? However during the pandemic the use of face shields and face masks By the staff seems quite random. Some wear face masks on the chin, somewhere facemasks on the cover in the mouth not the nose, someone just wear a face shields and a mask and some don't either. Just beware of the rather nasty speed bumps on the road from the roundabout to the hotel. This isn't the latest HIE decor, but it feels very fresh and clean throughout the hotel. The breakfast is the usual HIE fare, continental with hot sausages and beans. Not sure why previous reviewers have complained about the breakfast, as it is the same breakfast which is served in every HIE in the UK. A very fine place for a one night stay over.
