Fortunately we read many reviews in advance, so we showed up in appropriate long (bug-repelling) pants and with a picnic lunch of baguette, cheese, etc (although no need to bring food, because their on-site snack stand is gourmet quality). There were zip lines, netted walkways, huge plastic balls to roll around, bouncy houses, treehouses, rope swings, and more. An extra 5 euro to buy a bag of dirt to mine for treasure in a little waterway was worth it. There were many wonderful days during our trip, but with us flying and jumping and climbing all together, this will be remembered as the most magical. It's a gorgeous estate built as a winter house for Béatrice de Rothschild (yes of the famously wealthy Rothschild family*) between 1907-1912, that is currently managed by the Academie des Beaux Arts, having been bequeathed this estate in 1933 by the owner prior to her passing. As a significant collector and appreciator of art, the property houses a varied array of art forms from different eras, that Béatrice acquired over her lifetime. The gardens are also cultivated with several distinct themes. Located on Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, the villa smack dab (~10 km away) from both Nice and Monaco. The closest train station is Beaulieu-sur-Mer from where you can take bus #15 directly to the outer driveway entrance, about 5-6 minute walk slightly uphill to the ticketing entrance and gift shop. Arriving by car there is free parking available in a lot. The views from the villa's elevated position on a hill overlooks the Bay of Villefranche and the Bay of Beaulieu. A tremendous number of mansions (owned by the ultra wealthy and celebrities) also dot the landscape. Walking up to the entrance, tickets can be purchased inside or prior online. Regular adult tickets are €18, €12 reduced, free for children 7 and under. A combined ticket along with Villa Kérylos is available for purchase on-site only for €24. It's possible to visit both in one day with time to spare, as they're only about 10 minutes driving from each other. Inside, on the left hand side of the lobby free audio guides are available, there is also a free activity book for younger children. The tour takes you around the first floor first, then around the second floor, providing information on Béatrice's life and times, explaining the history of the villa and the highlights of the collection in each room. The total tour takes about 45 minutes. The rooms are gorgeous period rooms with an eclectic variety of decorative furnishings, sculptures and paintings. The grand scale of the main lobby and bath room impressed me. After this I'd recommend taking a stroll in the gardens, where you can enjoy the musical fountains and varied landscapes of each themed garden - French, Spanish, Florentine, stone, Japanese, exotic, rose and Provençal. If you're into the outdoors, horticulture or simply looking for a beautiful place to relax, you could spend hours here. I only spent about 45 minutes in the gardens and felt there was so much more to see. There are miles of walking paths. Mostly not handicap accessible though parts are. There's a tea-room restaurant that's set up in what appears used to be the formal dining room. It's open for lunch and dinner with a break between. It's a long street where vendors of all sorts sell their wares. Fruits, vegetables, flowers, lavender packets, spices, food like socca (a Nice special), antiques, souvenirs, arts and crafts, etc. There are restaurants in the background. It's crowded. I got here after lunch and the socca vendor closed for the day. There were a bunch of people and vendors but not much products left. Plenty of flower vendors, some vendors selling fruits and vegetables.

When you walk in, there is a beautiful fountain and several trails to explore. Off many of these trails are different animal exhibits (monkeys, birds, goats, turtles, otters, a porcupine, and others). Coming around toward the back, you reach the greenhouse, which is rife with tons of different types of flora. There are also several other wildlife exhibits inside such as a gator (or croc?), monkeys, flamingos, and iguanas. Altogether, I probably spent three hours here, and I definitely could have spent more if I had not been on a schedule. If you like the outdoors, hiking, and flora/fauna, this place is definitely a must see! Happily, Clayton Cohn

Not just for the warm water and beautiful scenery but the people that come to La Mala beach, the music played by the DJ, and the delicious food all combined create an all around perfect beach. Forget St. Tropez, Ipanema, Playa del Carmen, Belize, Florida, and Hawaii. While I do love all those beaches for different reasons, and really if you're hanging at the beach, life is still pretty good no matter which one you choose to chill at, La Mala is a cut above the rest. Definitely geared towards a younger high society crowd, the vibe is still amazing. However one downfall is that there isn't sand. It's rocks. So plan on bringing your water shoes. On to all yelpers most important subject, food. Here's what my table ordered: Mixed Fruit plate: a combination of every fruit I could think of plus some fruits I didn't recognize. The presentation was nice and the fruit was refreshing under the hot sun. Actually this is the only dish I got a pic of. Pizza Magherita: any Yelper from San Francisco is probably an expert in Magherita pizzas by now. The Magherita pizza at La Reserve was the best I've had yet. Chicken Caesar Salad: I didn't try the salad but a couple of my friends did. They said it was really good. There was a lot of food (such as seafood, etc) being served to people around me that all looked Food or Travel Channel worthy. I wish life was as Lil Wayne said, but for me I'd say: "Life is La Mala beach, I'm just playing at La Reserve".

When you see steep steps to your left with a small la reserve de la mela business sign that looks like you might be trespassing then youve found one of the entrances! We were sat down at the loungers on the beach. Our server came up and asked if we wanted to start with a bottle of Dom Perignon which we laughed and declined. We ordered the local lager & a Chablis which were both good. We also ordered one of the pizzas which was really good. We continued drinking and enjoying the beach but there wasnt much of an atmosphere, no music :/ we wanted to get a couples massage but they only had one masseuse but I would like to note that she was the nicest person working at that establishment and so she deserves a mention. We ended up spending around $250 and wouldve spent much more if the service and atmosphere were good. Like we get it your a private beach club but ive been to private beach clubs around the world and this is one of the less desirable ones ive been to. Its tacky to bring up money so much.
