This is a review of the pharmacy, not the grocery store. The drive-thru pharmacy is bad. Really bad. The line is always long and moves incredibly slow. Two of the last three visits we've left without our prescriptions because of the line. This last time was the final straw. I sat in line (without moving) for almost ten minutes. Next thing I know, a lady from the pharmacy is outside telling me I need to leave because they're closing. She went along and told all the cars behind me the same thing - we needed to leave the line and go inside to get our prescriptions. If the pharmacy is closing, which is why we need to leave the line, why are we able to get the prescriptions inside, then? The former pharmacy entrance is now closed to customers and used for curbside pickup only, so you have to park at the opposite end of the store then walk the complete length of the store to get to the pharmacy. There's a handicapped placard on my car for a reason! I can't walk that far! I was in line well before their closing time and wasted all that gas for nothing. I had to leave without my prescription. If they won't help people after a certain time, even though they were in line before closing, then they need to have the person put out traffic cones to close the line off before they close so they can serve people who are in line before they close. And closing at 6:00 is ridiculous! read more

I get a text saying I got three there and I'm going to get one and they say the other two aren't ready to be filled for two more days. Don't want more than once in two or three times. This is specifically about their dry cleaning department. (They send their clothes out to a vendor to be cleaned.) This is my story. This is my nightmare. When I went to pick up my suit jacket a few days after dropping it off, it clearly hadn't been cleaned, so I gave it back to them to redo. I returned to pick it up a few days later, and the cashier said, "The guy forgot to pick it up. Sorry." I don't know who "the guy" is, but they could have called me and told me the item wouldn't be ready That, of course, would require having a three-digit IQ and a sense of customer service. I returned about a week later and, I shit you not, it still hadn't been cleaned, and the vendor still had it. No explanation this time. "But it will be here tomorrow morning!" the cashier helpfully pointed out. I returned the next day (this is the third time, if you're counting). They had the jacket at the store, BUT IT STILL HADN'T BEEN CLEANED. I don't mean it had stains that wouldn't come out; I mean it literally hadn't been cleaned at all. The cashier gave me a refund and a $10 gift card. Gee, thanks. For all the time they wasted, they should have added a zero. They claimed this was all their vendor's fault, but if that's the case, Giant Eagle should simply find a new vendor. The best I can say about the experience is that my jacket wasn't returned worse-off than when I dropped it off. This is obviously faint praise. False advertising and false promises. Giant Eagle is a pittsburgh based company with poor customer service. I have shopped here for decades, and have officially stopped buying anything, including gas. all over a bag of peanuts. i recently found a rock in a Giant Eagle brand bag of peanuts. Printed on the bag are several guarantees regarding quality and even include a double your money back guarantee. After bringing this to corporate customer services' attention, sending 8 pictures and my loyalty card number in early January my issued is not resolved. Only an email saying they will look into my concerns. I have followed up at least 4 times. I believe Giant Eagle thinks I am lying or this is a joke. I spend at least $250 each week on groceries and gas at Giant Eagle. Well I used to. I will never shop at any Giant Eagle or affiliate ever again. I will run out of gas and go hungry before this organization gets $1 from me. Seriously. if there weren't so many packaging guarantees it wouldn't be an issue. False advertising and false promises. The most expensive grocery chain in Pittsburgh. I always knew the prices were higher but I justified it because of fuel perks. I didn't truly realize till I created a cart on their app and Walmarts app. I added my usual grocery list to both carts. By time I finished I realized that giant eagle was almost double the cost of Walmart. On average each item was $1-2 more at giant eagle. I'll take that $400 a month that I will save and go to Sam's and fill up at the same price as get go with advantage pay price. I will be able to fill my tank 2x a week per month if I needed to. read more

I waited a week because they offered a great deal on ribs, passing up other sales. Showing up around mid-day, the ribs that were advertised were gone, and prominently displayed were other ribs at far greater than two bait-and-switch multiple of the advertised price. I was told they sold out very early. This is not a loss leader but a very evident bait and switch strategy. I expect this from big box electronic stores on Black Friday but not from of a fixture in the Pittsburgh community. Shame on you Giant Eagle. read more

There have only been a couple times I couldn't find what I wanted, but those were for more rarely used specialty items for unusual meals I planned to make. Monroeville blvd Giant Eagle is my favorite closest grocery store to do my weekly shopping. I do love going to Whole Foods and Trader Joes for a special treat or in need of something specific from them. The store is huge to be sure, but once you get to know your way around, it is easy to zip through the store and get everything you need. It is a clean, well organized grocery store. My review is of the take out prepared foods. I love the weekly deal they offer in the Giant Eagle grocery paper. I also like the salad and hot food bar. I have yet to try the sushi. I can see it being prepared in front of my but still a little leery of getting my favorite food from a grocery store. Today I tried the homemade soups. Wedding and a Chicken Pot Pie. I liked the soup but won't try it again, maybe something different like; Potato or broccoli or the bisque. The soup was good, but was lacking flavor. I did not heat in the microwave as they suggest, instead I emptied the container in to a pot and heated on the stove. I don't like to microwave if I don't have to. The Pot Pie was good also, plenty of shredded chicken and vegetables. It had a bland gravy to it. I was hoping to get something ready and not have to add any ingredients to it. I got the pot pie cold to heat up once I got home. I set the oven to 350 for about 20mins. I would recommend it for those to try. I am not going to not shop prepared foods because of the less then great experience, just try something different. I do recommend ! read more

Food is fine. The place is clean. But lines of people waiting to check out and three lanes open is it? Come on. To the lady working who stood talking to the other employee for 20 minutes while we waited in line and she watched us ... or the manager who doesn't see bottlenecks and make moves to keep things going, get it together. I most often use giant eagle for their grocery pick up. I have five kids and it is very helpful to not have to walk the isles and have them shop for us and pick. It is pretty rare but occasionally I get a bad piece of produce, but it is hard for them I'm sure. I love this service and if you have never used it you should try it! read more

Granted this grocery store is right across the street from me, I still love this place. There are always a ton of sale on fruits and/or veggies. The place is easy to navigate around. The self check out machines are easy to use. The only two things that I couldnt find was a hot sauce called Valentina's and also the cilantro (only 2 bundles were there) was already turning brown and old. The hippie tree hugging part of me cheered for the option for a more eco-friendly option for plastic bags. The blue ones are more recyclable, but the cashiers wont automatically use them, so make sure you ask for it before they start bagging! Saving our world a little bit at a time :) read more

I'm here at least twice a week. Whatever I need (almost), is at this location. Their organic section is growing bigger. Hot food bar is ample for any in-a-pinch-and-running-late meals. The cheese department used to shred anything offered, now they don't. Deli does not carry Kretchmar, my preferred sliced meat. Bakery is A-OK with some beautiful cakes and cookies offered. Bread is fabulous with lots of choices. Check out lines are always (always) slow. Restrooms are poorly maintained. You need to watch your receipts, specials don't always ring as advertised. Pros: The pharmacy employees are always very helpful, as are the deli workers. There are some good sales. My most recent check-out clerk, Theresa, was friendly and efficient. The one thing I've discovered about Giant Eagle is that the quality of the store depends on its location. I've lived in Penn Hills and the two Giant Eagle stores nearby were nowhere near the quality of this one. Shame on Giant Eagle for not being consistent no matter the location. I was in town for business and stayed in a hotel just around the corner. I tried to stay away from eating out, so I would stop by this grocery and pick up foods to keep in my hotel fridge. It was so convenient and very easy to get in and out. I made four grocery trips during my time in town and never had an issue. I find this Giant Eagle annoying, maybe it's because it's at the end of the plaza. Or maybe because when you tell somebody that you are going to Giant Eagle in Monroeville you have to go into a fifteen minute conversation explaining to them where the Giant Eagle exactly is. It is nearly hell getting to and from here from the main road. With a Target right before it and the parking lot confusion, it is almost impossible to make a b-line to a spot. I guess except for at night. That is one good thing about this place it is open 24 hours. Making it a bit easier to pick up something you are in dire need of. I guess another good thing is that it is clean a majority of the time. But there is no way that this is a must stop when you are shopping in Monroeville. So today i was in the supplement section and out of nowhere a giant eagle clerk literally stood 3 ft away from me. "I guess she was front facing products." Honestly tho, she was watching me! My 79 yo mom was very sick, just released from the emergency room and needed to get some prescriptions filled. She was 3 min past closing time but all 4 or 5 of them stuck around to fill it for her before they all left. They could have easily refused her as they were technically closed. This Giant Eagle is always improving. I'm not sure why it isn't labeled a Market District yet, but it has a huge selection of fresh produce, meats, body care products, and even alcohol (still uncommon in PA grocery stores). I just used the curbside service and it worked flawlessly. I parked, called the number, they confirmed my order, and packed my purchase in the trunk before thanking me. I live closer to a smaller Giant Eagle, but I drive a few miles out of my way so I only have to make one trip. This location also has the following amenities: Childcare, salad bar, hot food bar, sushi, antipasti bar, Starbucks, and drive thru pharmacy services. Finally, this location is much less congested than the Fox Chapel or Shadyside Giant Eagle locations. read more

I've gone to this Giant Eagle since I was in single digits. I love the renovations they have made over the years. I now live in Manhattan and this grocery store is still the litmus test for any place I go to fill my larder. I miss the two renovations ago lunch area, but the new one is great. The sandwich selections are not as diverse as Subway, but are leagues tastier. The hot foods are mostly fried American staples, but the Asiatic buffet more than makes up for the other. GE also serves up delicious soups. I recommend the Tortilla soup or whatever the variation of the Hispanic cuisine soup is.( I only come here about once or twice a year now.) This Giant Eagle also has an awesome selection of beers. I am spoiled by the bars NYC and Jersey has to offer, but my hometown has stuff I have only seen in the New York metro area. MY local GE. Happy to have this store to grocery shop. This one is on the larger side, but by no means as large as the Market District brand stores. The selections a pretty good here with a wide range of products. This store is large enough to at least have a section for ethnic foods. Sections include Cheese shop, a large fruit and vegetable section (vegetables are usually of good quality) a bakery, a decent butcher - meat and seafood counters. You can ask the butcher to cut some meat special for you. While I don't use these that often they have a good size deli and a hot/cold prepared foods section. Just added is a beer section, which is nice, but I still would like to see wine being sold here. The also have a cleaners and pharmacy inside the store. They keep the store and parking lot pretty clean. The only thing that really drives me crazy, is they tend to rearrange the section locations often enough that when I go in, I need to say, okay now where the heck is the bread or paper products, etc. Drives me nuts. All in all this GE is a pretty good place to shop where you can get most things in one stop shopping. read more

I removed my mask the moment after I walked out of the store door (I have a medical condition that makes breathing with the mask for extended periods of time difficult) and was immediately screamed at by a Giant Eagle employee standing on the sidewalk. She then followed me part way to my car, screaming, "Sweetie, you are being selfish! Put that mask on while on store property! Put it on! Sweetie!" I acted like I didn't hear her. Myself and others have had several negative experiences with giant eagle's customer service policies, training that puts employees on a power trip and encourages them to abuse customers. This includes a friend who was punched by a giant eagle employee (corporate did nothing). Then I found out what happened to Nick Conley here. Giant Eagle's policy is purposefully discriminatory against people with disabilities. I'm going to be boycotting this store! read more

Out I all the Giant Eagles I've been to, this one has the worst produce. One time I went in the green peppers were literally rotting but they wanted $3.99 a pound. Don't ever try to ask for help at this location too. You can tell when the harsh management isn't around because the employees will ignore you and act extremely rude. Oh don't let me forget about the eggs. The staff here must drop them a ton. My wife went through all of the large eggs before and every single one had one or more cracked ones! Avoid this Giant Eagle if you're unable to wear a mask for health reasons. Went to the store 2 weeks ago without a mask (the Nazis were not at the entrance) I did my shopping, went to the first cashier (Susan) who had a mask on. I couldn't understand why the conveyor belt didn't move, I had loaded a lot of my purchases on it. Susan folded her arms in front of her and told me that she couldn't wait on me because I wasn't wearing a mask. I told her I have health issues, that wasn't good enough. She called another employee over, who told me I had to wear a mask. I told this person also that I can't b/c of health issues. Then another employee came on board and told me that I have to wear a mask. Again, I explained that I cannot b/c of health reasons. She informed me that I can use the self-checkout-I explained to her, I always have to call for help there, then she told me I could use curbside. No, I want to see what I am picking out, and what I am paying for. I left all my produce behind and walked out. Then I wrote to the federal government: www.ada.gov. First time, order was never processed or delivered and today many missing items and uncaring response from their "customer care" department. I used to love this store. Great sales and tons of selection. The new prepared foods section I great too. It tends to be crowded but if you go t the right times it's not too bad. I usually like seeing a crowded grocery store. It makes me feel like things are fresher because there's too much traffic for produce to sit for too long. But recently I had a very bad experience there that dealt with a man following me to my car after my shopping and being very inappropriate. I'm happy to say that the store is handling the situation with a lot of care and consideration.
