I'm not sure why this is called Margo Sterling Silver; sterling silver appears to be just a…read moreminuscule part of the business in the store. Overall, based on what I saw in the store, this is a metaphysical business. I saw great looking handmade jewelry, knick knacks for the home, incense, tantra-related items, stones and other merchandise. A couple of the things that caught my eye because I have an interest in them are the crystals and sage. Margo has a big selection of stones and crystals. People burn sage (in a ritual called smudging) to clear away negativity. I've smudged my place a few times with a bundle of burning white sage, and I know it helped because I felt a calmness and contentment after I got done. Margo sells various types of sage that customers can smudge their spaces and their selves to eliminate negativity and increase positivity. I have also interest in crystals, of which Margo has a big selection. The two types of crystals that I have are black obsidian and clear quartz crystals, both of which have protective properties. One of clear quartz's benefits is enhancing mental clarity. It can help with emotional stability, and it's popular in meditation and restorative work. It's also often used for manifestation and can help create more focus and clarity around a desire. It is a protective stone and can be used to amplify psychic abilities. I have white quartz crystals near my front door to dispel any negative energies entering my home, and on my nightstand to amplify the effect of the black obsidian crystal that I keep near it. One of the most popular uses of black obsidian is to create a shield of protection to ward off negative or harmful energies. I wear a black obsidian bracelet to help absorb negativity that I may encounter. I also have black obsidian crystals in the four corners of my condo to help ward off negative and harmful energies. Does it work? I know they do. I like that throughout the store are handwritten descriptions and explanations either on or near the crystals. These are great for customers who are interested in incorporating crystals into their lives. However, customers who buy them should also learn how to use the crystals (the best placement for them, how to energize them, how to cleanse them, etc.) after they're purchased to learn how to put them to best use for themselves. One thing that I'd like to point out when I was in the store was that there were way too many strong scents concentrated in one specific area on the left side of the store. I took a couple of regular breaths in and the scents hit me hard. Think of the strong and multiple scents affecting your nose as being similar to strong and multiple noises affecting your ears. When I smelled the odors together I got dizzy, realized that scents were affecting me and immediately walked to the other side of the store. I was fine after breathing in non-scented air. I didn't get a good look at the object(s) that caused my dizziness. It would've been good to know so that I could avoid a similar situation in the future.

Most B&N stores have a similar layout with a coffee shop in one corner. Good location for finding gifts for bookworms, bibliophiles, lectiophiles, and kids. I have also had bad experiences in person, where reps are having conversations with other co-workers and completely ignore me as the customer while I am standing in the front of the line. This place is a hit or a miss with customer service.

I wander into the store which is playing the Beach Boys' "Don't Back Down", a song I've heard a zillion times, though this version ends with a verse I've never heard before. A gentleman, obviously a regular, wanders in and starts going into full detail about a 1970s Elvis bootleg he's just listened to, comparing it to similar bootlegs of the era. I grab a Sun Ra album and chat about the new Neil Young "Tonight's The Night" live reissue. I walk back out into the sunny Sunday afternoon with some great new music. This is about as good as it gets. Don't assume from some of those legacy names that this is some golden-oldies shop. Lots of good, weird stuff found here too. The employees here know their proverbial onions and are just at home talking about Japanese noise bands as they are, um, 1970s Elvis bootlegs. They're friendly folks too - if you're buying something cool they're going to talk to you about it. I don't live in Athens but I've shopped here sporadically for a good 20+ years. This is one of a handful of places that just _is_ Athens to me. You can always trust a Beefheart reference!

Low Yo Yo is a brief walk away from the historic 40 Watt Club and near plenty of dining and drinking choices. While a relatively small store, it's packed wall to wall with a lot of records! I was particularly impressed by the great selection of catalogue titles they have--I always have a running list of records I'm looking for and often these are not present in my local shops. Many, if not most, of what I looked for WAS present here. Often a new title, shrinkwrapped and priced accordingly--but fairly/within market range. They did have some original pressings and used items, but overall their used items seem to be vastly outranked by their new items. However, I can't quite be sure of that as beyond the row of newly arrived used items all others are filed with their new counterparts. I like the overall organization of this store--by genre, by artist, and often within an artist's section all of the solo and sideprojects of a group are present and accounted for. There's also a pretty sweet local artists section (including REM) near the register. Friendly service, cool shop, would definitely make this a regular stop if I lived in the area.

Due to the haphazard nature of organization, it might not be the place for someone just coming here to check stuff out, but if you have no idea what you want, and you're just shuffling through things, then you may like this place. I, like many others, enjoy checking out comic book stores in other cities and states. Frankly, I live in a city with a bunch of great comic book shops, so I'm not hurting for quality or variety in terms of what I read. Also, I'm more of a graphic novel person, and I like to collect interesting graphic novels I find in places to the point where I have a pretty legitimate collection, of which I've probably only read about half. Whoops. I saw a couple of things that tickled my fancy, but they weren't priced, but I don't like interacting with people so I didn't feel like asking what the pricing would have been for them. Needless to say, I left without anything, but I would come back and randomly browse if I'm in the area again and had some time to kill.

It appears to be a former school auditorium. There is plenty of parking, but it was hard to see initially. We entered via 3rd Street and drove by a baseball field. The OCAF is on a rise about 5 - 8 feet above the level of the road, so you can't really see its closest parking lot until you walk or drive up. I moved the car closer after I realized there was a parking lot up there. You enter past the office and along a hallway of displays of pottery / art for sale. There is also a table with historical objects from the building's school history. The exhibit space was at the end of the hall in the former auditorium. It was laid out as you might expect, with works displayed around the perimeter walls and on some freestanding wall segments in the center of the space. This exhibit was nice, but as I said it was temporary. I assume they rotate other exhibits through the space. This was within a 15-minute drive of Athens, so if you are in that area it is easy to check this place out.
