Loved our fishing trip!! This mama took her daughters (4 &11 years old) on our very first bay fishing trip just us girls and it was such a great time! We were fortunate enough to have been set up with Captain Danny who is seriously one of the nicest and most helpful charter captains I believe someone can be. He was SO GOOD with my kids, and wanting them to catch their own fish... in fact, my oldest caught 42 fish!!!! I am not even joking!!! This was a 1/2 day trip too. I would definitely suggest if having young kids do the half day only. Also, choose the morning! Being able to experience the calmness and beauty of the water and sunrise is such a gift. I love how in the price you pay, you even get to have the fish cleaned. This was truly such a special experience for me and my daughters and I'm so thankful for Captain Danny's hospitality and knowledge of the best spots to catch a ton of fish! The trip was suposed to be targeting big fish and shark then was told we won't be targeting shark but would still target big fish. Our guide was the worst. When we got on the water we was informed that my group wasn't ready to target big fish. We are all experienced deep sea fisherman. Our guide wouldn't take us back to the dock after I said I was ready to go and I was the one paying for the trip. Then he creeper my wife out alot by standing directly behind her the whole time and hovered over her alot. Will never use this crooked company again. Was warned by many people some of their guides are crooked and will intional ruin your trip and sure enough it happened. read more

8-3-19 0600 Do you enjoy Dolphin Tours and following Shrimp Boats because that's about all you're going to get out of this story. We booked this charter months ago and this was suppose to be the Pinnacle Point of the trip. First off the Skipper had to Fuel up the Boat and return to the Charter station for bait. Then we get about 10 miles out, behind our first shrimp boat and dump what looks like Chum for Sharks we get one hit then it shakes off within Minutes. Vice staying stationary and getting another hit we take off for another try behind the same shrimp boat. The Skipper let's us know that he has 2 fishing poles that are stripped and puts them up in the pole holders. There are still 4 other ones that I would think are good. He tells us we can throw another rod out later to fish with. For now we can try one and try our luck. We leave that area and proceed to an oil rig and he drifts with one rod out. Bait is everywhere and we think were going to drop 5 lines and try our luck we stay in this place for 10 minutes then take off. This happens about 5 other times times and once again only one rod out. We think were going to get baited up and he throws two baits on one hook. We hook up and he throws it back in. So now 1 guy gets the only fish we catch and we go else where. Now were in a channel and he says is good for sharks and we stay for about 30 minutes and hook up to a shark which as he gaffs it the line busts. Instead of him throwing it on onboard he let's it off back in the water and now where all pissed at this time. He tells us sharks dont taste good anyways and wasn't sure if we could have one or more so we didnt want it either. We go else where and are here for another 35 minutes and he throws the bait in the water and says "better luck next time". We head back to the dock and are all disappointed at the type of service we were given. We would rather had rented a boat and tried our own luck with the amount of money spent and time we were on the water to not all touch a rod and try our own luck. I'd have better luck shooting fish in a barrel blindfolded than going back out again. read more

We visited Galveston as a family and were wanting to go fishing 2 out of the 3 days we were there. I inquired about our last minute trip & Melody responded within 15 minutes and answered all of my questions as well as gave me options in regards to upgrading the boat, etc. which I truly appreciate! The first trip (bay & jetty half day) was with Zach at 6:30 in the morning. The evening before, I had a quick question around 9:00 p.m. and Melody again, responded within minutes! I was so relieved & so thankful! The men went on this trip alone so I cannot give too many details on it but to say the men had a wonderful time, is an understatement. They enjoyed Zach & their entire experience so much and said they could not have asked for more! The second trip was with Kevin (bay and jetty half day). My mother & 3 and a half year old son joined in on this one. Being that my son had never been on a boat before, I was a bit nervous. He's also very shy but Kevin quickly commented on his spiderman fishing pole & put him immediately at ease. Kevin drove slowly for us until we got our sea legs. We got where we were going & Kevin so thoughtfully offered to rig his spiderman fishing pole up. I don't recall the name of the fish he caught but he got a minimum of 10 & was giddy every time! Kevin was just as excited as he was. Haha. It was a treat! Honestly, we could have not asked for a better weekend & will forever use Get Hooked Charters! I will preface this by saying that I have been on a minimum of 30 paid charters ranging from half day excursions to overnight trips. It's not my first rodeo. I took my adult son, 4 year old daughter and momma on a half day charter. We went out on Sunday, November 10, 2019. We paid $450 plus a tip for the half day, not including fishing licenses. I rate the trip as a one star experience for the following reasons: 1. The fishing areas selected by the guide included pretty much a scenic tour of fuel depots, a mountain of loose sulphur blowing in the wind, and oil covered green water that was so polluted you can't see the bottom in 18 inches of water. We did catch a few flounder, which was very important to the guide. Apparently there is a fishing contest going on where in the guide can win $5000 (20% of which he offered to share with us) if one of his guests catches the biggest flounder of the season. That would be fine if: A. I gave a damn about catching flounder. B. I wasn't trying to put my 4 year old daughter and her momma on some fish. I spoke specifically to that topic when booking the trip the night before, and also directly to the guide. I said, please, we prefer to be fishing for anything active and aggressive. We don't care if we keep anything. It's all about making sure that the girls have fun. Nope. We're fishing flounder. In a toxic waste dump. 2. As an added bonus, to get away from a few other boats that were fishing near the toxic waste dumps, we moved into an area that is CLEARLY MARKED NO FISHING NO TRESPASSING. The guide explained that, "We usually don't have much trouble here. Sometimes the captain will come out and run us off." 3. The guide sort of offered to help a bit, and would bait a hook for my daughter etc. But mostly, he was busy fishing himself. 4. When I finally pointed out that I wasn't very happy paying $500 to sit in a toxic waste dump sniffing diesel fumes and sulphuric dust while trying to not snag a line on rusted out piling and crap in the too green to see through, oil-sheened waters, he said, "Well, we can go in early I guess, or I suppose, if you really want to we could go out on the jetty and try to catch some red fish." No, really, don't go out of your way sir. 5. The gear was poorly maintained. The bales on the open faced reals wouldn't close with a crank of the reel, and I'm guessing hadn't been lubricated since Christ was a Corporal. In fact, the guide said, "I really need to oil these things." 6. There is no ice on the boat. If you bring anything to drink, remember to bring your own cooler and your own ice. Seriously... I'm fine bringing my own beer or what ever... But could you at least have some ice on the boat? 7. The boat was dirty. It definitely had not been cleaned up. 8. A life jacket for my daughter was an afterthought. I'm sure there were life jackets on the boat for the adults, but there were never in sight, and we weren't given any sort of initial briefing to the effect of, "Probably won't need them, but just in case... they are right here." Nope. Nothing. 9. The boat wasn't fueled and ready for us when we showed up. We got to visit the fuel dock on our way out. Not that this is the end of the world, but it just adds to the overall crap-tastic experience. 10. We were late getting to the dock. We discovered late that the fishing licenses are not included with the charter fee. (That is because of the law in Texas. The guide can't provide them. They have to be purchased separately. Easy enough to do at the bait shop on the dock.) So, we were late getting to the dock. Roughly 5 minutes late. It took another 10 minutes for the guide to show up. He was off buying bait. Just another example of the half-measures that we experienced. 11. The guide talked at length about the $5000 jackpot for catching the biggest flounder. He literally couldn't be bothered to listen to us, and what we were seeking from our experience. We were going to fish what he wanted to fish, where he wanted to fish it, and we got to pay $450 plus tip for the privilege of watching him flick marlboro butts into the water. 12. OMG, I forgot about the bananas. Holy hell the bananas. DO NOT BRING BANANAS ON THE BOAT. DO NOT EVEN BRING BANANA BOAT SUN SCREEN ON THE BOAT. HOLY HELL DON'T BRING BANANA ANYTHING ON THE BOAT. My daughter ate one of the two bananas that I had brought on the boat, and because there are no trash cans or trash bags ANYPLACE on the boat, I placed the peel in the corner on the floor. When the guide saw it he FREAKED OUT saying that Bananas are "BAD JUJU" on boats, and he immediately grabbed the peel And whipped it overboard into the water. He went on for 10 minutes about bananas being horrible on boats, and he doesn't even want banana boat sun screen on the boat. If you want a toxic dump tour, these guys are great! read more

Get Hooked, More Like Get F*cked... Saturday 03AUG2019 @ 05:30 This experience was so bad I will never book another Fishing Charter in my life. Me and my four buddy's booked this trip because we like to fish, what we got was the Guide dropping a single line in the water and when waiting for something to bite, then he would hand it off to one of us to reel it in. The Guide dumped all of the Chum in one spot and then we left that area 5 mins later. We spent more time going between "Good Fishing destinations" then we spent with that single line in the water. The one shark we did hook, the Guide fumbled it back into water. 3/5 of us never touched a pole during the 6 hour "fishing trip" I've never felt so robbed in my life, we're not a bunch of rich guys who can afford these trips every weekend; so it felt sad when no one got to actually fish. Our guide made about 20 bad calls that day and we had to pay the price. We planned this trip six months ahead of time, and everything was planned around this day, and all he could say was "better luck next time." 5am is a fake time. I refuse to believe that humans can operate at that hour effectively. So when I signed up for a fishing trip that started at 5am, I immediately regretted it. No take backs! We struggled out of bed at 4am, packed our gear, unglued our eyes, stumbled around a little, ate some cold kolaches and got to the boat dock. Apparently there was some form of miscommunication because the boats weren't ready. They weren't expecting us until 6am. So we fiddled around for an hour on the dock, waiting for them to load the stuff up. Then we rode off into the sunrise. Over the course of the next 5 hours we caught our limit on oversized red drum and lots of sharks. The fishing was really successful -- even though our guide was kind of odd. He accidentally caught a pelican, which sucked. He was joking about doing that -- then it happened -- then we had to deal with getting a pelican off the line. Poor little birdie. We got back to the dock with our big old fish (one 39", one 42" and a black fin shark) and they filleted them. I moseyed over to the car to lay down since my stomach had apparently not gotten its sea legs back. An hour later, we were loaded up with fish. I dont know what happened during that hour or why it took so long to filet three fish but I did learn three things: 1. Sharks smell terrible. It's almost the worst smell I've ever smelled. Also, they pee IN their skin. That's so disturbing I can't begin to comprehend it. 2. Our 30+ year old guide is dating a 17 year old dockhand that works for the company. That creeped me out big time. 3. Fishing charters can be a little bit loosey goosey. Make sure you talk to the captain before you decide to go out with them. Discuss start times (ahem), what kind of fish you're looking for, what kind of experience levels you have and what kind of fishing license you need. Get Hooked... More like Get A Clue! Let me start by saying this was single handedly the worst experience of my life. They say a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work. Well, let me tell ya, buddy, that is not the case with this "fishing" charter. I would rather dive into a school of jellyfish and swim about in my underwear than to spend a day with this charter again. Four of my buddies and I have been looking at this charter for the past five years, and this was the year everything fell into place. We were going shark fishing. Little did we know we would be driving 6 and a half hours for an expensive boat ride. So we show up at the dock at 05:30 in the morning. There are guys standing around and shooting the bull, dressed in fishing clothes. I thought it was the guides ready to greet us and take us out to reel in some shark, but come to find out it was guys waiting to go out on the charter whose guides hadn't even shown up! I walk around the dock asking for the guide and finally run into one. Apparently, there is no meet and greet when you book a fishing charter. Heck, for all I knew we could have been getting on a boat with a human trafficker. Bad for business in my eyes, but I'm not a fishing guide. My buddies and I get on the boat and we take off. Or so we thought... The boat was nearly out of gas so we had to stop and fill up. While filling up the gas tank the guide tells us he has to go back to the dock because he forgot something. THE BAIT! What? I guess he thought we were just gonna throw out a couple of lines and hope to snag one. I don't know. An hour later we are finally in open water and the guide grabs a rod, baits it up, and tosses it. FISH ON!.. For a second. The first fish of the day was on and off the hook quicker than my last relationship. I've had the flavor in Zebra striped gum last longer than the amount of time this fish was on the hook. QUITE some time later we hook onto a small fish I would use for bait back home in the freshwater lake we have. Let me stop right there and say this is not a fishing guide. This was a "watch me fish" guide. (Apparently we didn't read the fine print) The guide baited the hook, threw out the line, held the rod, hooked the fish, wrestled it for a minute, then finally when the fish was 6 feet from the boat, passed off the rod to one of my buddies, who asked the skipper, "Do you just want me to flip him in the boat?" My buddy does just that and this fish is so small I couldn't tell the difference between it and the shad we were using for bait. We spend about the next 2 hours looking for fish before the guide tells us what was going to happen. He tells us he only has one rod because the gears on the reels on the other rods were stripped. What? Nice move Get Hooked. They got us out 10 miles from shore before we're aware there's not enough rods to go around. 5 guys are suppose to take turns fishing with one rod?! That's exactly what happened. Five grown men taking turns fishing with 1 rod because the charter didn't have enough for everyone. We are all avid fishermen, not children who should be standing in line begging for a turn to hold the fishing pole. We spend all day not catching a dad gum thing. We hook up to 1 shark on a "Shark Fishing Trip", in what turned out to be a 850 dollar, 7 hour boat ride. This company should be busted for robbery because that is exactly what they did to us. 7 hours. 0 fish. 1 very bad day. Before we pack up the only functional rod on the boat the guide dumps the rest of the bait into the water and said, "Better luck next time!" We get back to the dock, and again, there is no one there to meet us or ask us how the trip went. This "fishing charter" is the biggest rip-off I have ever seen in my life. Incident occurred on 7/17/2021. We did not charter a trip from Get Hooked Charters. We ran offshore and happen to see a boat that we thought we knew. Upon getting no closer than 30 yards and saw that it was not someone we knew, we proceeded to leave the location and headed about 1/4 miles away. The captain of the 39ft contender with triple suzukis pulls up to within 6ft of our vessel and blocked anyone from fishing on the starboard side. When asked if he can be any closer? Captain stated he could throw a rope at our propeller. After drifting away about a hundred yards he proceeded to do it again and this happened 3 more times. He did not realize the danger he not only put himself in, but his clients and our own vessel. We were about 40 miles offshore with no other vessels in site. read more

We had a fantastic time. The boat was in great shape (seemed new to me). Our guide, Aaron was very knowledgable and friendly. We booked a half day trip and he took us out to the end of the jetty. The fish were not biting there, but Aaron got a call from another captain in the fleet (good thing about a guide service with multiple boats) and we moved about 1000 yds off shore. Within 10 minutes of the move we were on the fish and caught 5 big reds in an hour. We kept the first 3 (our limit) and let the rest go, but I think the last two were the biggest of the bunch. My daughter was feeling a little seasick so we decided to cut the trip short but we had a fantastic time and will definitely use them again! read more

Horrible experience. We were supposed to fish with live shrimp as we were told by Melody the operator that answers the phone. We get there and the 18yr old captain is unprepared, with no live shrimp(didn't get there In time) when they were supposed to have all that ready for us upon arrival, but instead they decide to go on OUR PAID time to get dead bait and ice. We give the very young captain the benefit of the doubt and stay optimistic. A couple of the buddies I was with were first timers to fishing, and needed proper guidance. Tell me why these guys did not help whatsoever with helping reel in the fish for them, they just stared, we had to teach our own friends how to fish and lost a few because of it. They were immature and idk why they even hire 18yr olds for trips like this. Their excuse was "he had been fishing since a little boy on these waters and is experienced" but that was obviously not the case because we took NOTHING home. On top of that, the young captain Braden drove very harsh, a few of us got hurt from the bumps we were taking off the waves but didn't say anything, just kept to ourselves. They would see us struggle holding on and just look back and keep at their harsh driving. not to mention, we wouldn't stay at one spot for longer than 30mins without them getting impatient moving from spot to spot, it seemed like meeting up with their captain friends at different spots on other boats was a bigger priority than letting us stay and fish for longer. We spent half the trip driving and half fishing it felt like. To conclude this, they decide to use up our last hour BAY fishing to test our luck when we paid for JETTY fishing. ($100 less)And expected the same price paid for. by the way, they have upped their prices from 450 to 550 for 3 due to change in location, so it wasn't helping our case. We came home with no fish to clean, take pictures with, or anything!! This was a very disappointing experience I highly recommend to consider booking elsewhere for your charter needs as they are unprofessional, inexperienced and overpriced for the service that was provided. I am by no means a cheap customer I will pay the cost as long as our experience is great and take a few fish home, AND pay gratuity as I have in the past. Right now they are currently still trying to charge us $400 total for this half ass job. I am very upset. Who in their right mind would pay $400 for a joyride on a boat with 18yr olds that don't care about the customers satisfaction. read more

Well we left at 5am for the deep sea trip. 2hr boat ride out to the spot. We have 6 people and there was only 2 rods out the whole time, why have 8+ rods on the boat but only 2 rods out? Most of us sat around waiting for our turn to reel in a fish but unfortunately most of us didn't even catch fish. Whole entire trip we had only pulled 1 king fish in the boat. For $1600 that's a big hit when most of us didn't even fish. At the end of the day captain decided let's catch shark, we got some on the line but they were so big our lines broke constantly and we never even saw them because the line couldn't take them in. Why wasn't the captain prepared for the trip if we were going deep and using light line. Why didn't we have more rods out? Why didn't we change fishing techniques? Why didn't we have heavier line why didn't we get to fish? We're all the questions I got from my guys about paying for this trip. Also when we asked what fish are we gonna catch our answer was kings that's about it since it's august. Well it's good to know we came at a bad time, I wish I would've done more research before I used these guys. The captain is a nice guy but we came for fish and I wish he could've made it happen since we drove so far to get there and paid so much money. read more

Extremely disappointed in the service me an my friends received with this fishing charter. Our captains were nice and conversational but lacked in experience by a long shot. I do not recommend this place to anyone and will never use them for myself again. I spoke very highly of them to my friend who went on the trip with me and ended up catching nothing at all. The young Captain drove the boat extremely harsh and managed to send us all home with bruises. If you're searching for a good fishing service choose anyone but this place I cannot stress this enough to anyone but just don't waste your time and money with these guys. read more

Nope!! I do not recommend this place at all. You should book with another fishing company. You will not have a good time, and honestly there is something fishy about it (seriously). My family paid $500 for 10 catfish and conversation with each other. You only actual fish the last hour and it all looked to be some kind of scam. See I have been around dirt my whole life and can spot it anywhere, it was just too late to cancel and I did not want my dad to lose his deposit. DO NOT BOOK ANYTHING WITH THIS COMPANY. It is not fair what they did to us, by shorting our hours (told through email very last minute and did not want to change the cost) *shame on you*, holding out on us fishing, crap all in the toilet (had to stand on it to pee). Also lady at the front desk who answers calls, I heard the whole conversation with my dad. You are horrible at what you said and he was so nice to you. I hope you learned something that day as far as how a nice person should act. Not very friendly captain (we are very nice ppl), I don't want anyone else to be taken advantage of. We've been fishing with GHC twice now. Our most recent was a close offshore trip on 05/30/15 with Captain Jason. Overall it was a great experience. We did the afternoon trip, arriving at 11:45am for our 12:00 departure. The boat and captain were awaiting us. But, once we were on board we did have to make stops for gas and bait which took about 20 minutes but my husband talked to the captain to make sure we didn't lose that time. We tried a few different fishing spots and settled on a rig that ended up giving us 3 red drum, a shark and sting ray. We lost about 5, one of them being huge. Two guys fought it for a while before it snapped the line. Which leads me to a bit of a complaint... one of the things we noticed immediately was the lack of heavy duty fishing rods. Most of the poles struggled to get the fish up. I think next time we will try bringing our own rods. Heading back in we hit a storm which was one of the scariest things I've ever experienced. The waves weren't enormous but instead, there were very large swells which made it hard because they tend to disappear out from under the boat and cause the boat to drop which results in some rough riding. Jason did his best at riding those swells to keep the ride as smooth as possible. We weren't able to use the cloth seat at the bow of the boat because screws were exposed through the fabric which ended up cutting my friends finger but we brought it to the captain's attention. Overall, great trip and great fishing. Once back at the dock, Jason cleaned the fish and bagged them up for us. Also on a side note.... we had been experiencing weeks of torrential rains and flooding which caused the acidity of the water to be affected since Galveston is basically a delta that receives water from all the rivers in the area. Captain Jason said he had never seen the water so brown so far out from shore and hadn't expected us to catch as much as we did. He did not have a deck hand, so he was working his butt off moving rods around while we were trying to reel in the big catches and fight them, spearing the fish once out of the water, baiting the hooks after each catch, etc. :) read more

We have been out with Get Hooked several times now for bay and jetty fishing charters...never again. We were told to be there by 5:30am, which would be great on such a beautiful day, as it was already starting to get light outside. We were all very eager to get on site at the South jetty by 6am so we could avoid the heat of the day and be coming in by 11 am. The night before, I received a text saying to not be there until 6 AM, so I had to text the others who are coming and tell them to be there 30 minutes later than we had planned. I thought "no problem", believing we would still be there in plenty of time to get out early. There were two boats at the dock when we got there, one several feet larger than the other. Since we were told they would accommodate our group of six "in the larger boat" I was pleased to see that we would be able to fish comfortably without crowding each other. The only other group there at the dock was a party of two people, which I thought would go in the smaller boat and they still have plenty of room. You would think... But it wasn't to be! We were stuck in the smaller boat while the party of two took off with their guide in the larger boat! When I asked about this, I was reassured that our smaller boat would handle all six of us without any problem and that it was set up this way. As it turned out, we sat there waiting until 6:45am, waiting for the guide to get his act together. I asked him several times what the holdup was and what was going on, but he was a very poor communicator, saying little to me. Then I saw him messing with one of the two engines on the boat, and finally taking the cowling off the engine. At this point I was more direct with him as to what was going on, and he said he was having engine trouble. Gee, you would think that they would have made sure everything was working well the night before, or would have done a better job of maintaining their boats. ( we later found out that the larger boat had gone dead in the water while out on site, due to a battery failure, and they had to get a jump from another boat.) when I finally contacted Melody from the front office by phone, as the guide wasn't giving me much information, she said that we could cancel today if we wanted to and she would let us reschedule another day on a larger boat! Everyone in my group really wanted to fish, so we agreed to wait a while until they could get the boat fixed. Finally, we all got out to our fishing site by 11 AM. Our guide was not a bad guy, but he also was not super helpful. We have had guides in the past who were much more attentive and communicative with our group. After we got on site, he even had to spend some time prepping the rods that we were going to use. Again, you would think that that would've been done ahead of time so that we didn't waste time on site getting ready to fish instead of actually fishing. Unfortunately, by going out as late as we did, the heat and humidity of the day took a toll on all of us. We did catch some fish, but unfortunately many were too small and had to be thrown back we ended up with 10 sheepshead and one slot Red. Unlike other trips we have taken with this company, the guide did not put out extra bait in the water on heavier rigs to try and catch some larger fish or sharks. Finally, we headed back in at about 2:30pm, after only 3 1/2 hours on the water. On the way back in, we were pulled over by the game warden, who took two of our eight sheepshead, because they were undersized. We had to wait while she wrote a citation for our guide. Shortly after that we were pulled over again by a different game warden, but they let us move on after a minute. By the time we got back to the dock, we were all hot, tired, and ready to go home. To add insult to injury, we were charged $700 for the half-day for the six of us. The owners did not even offer us a break due to all the problems that were encountered. Being the polite gentleman that we were, We paid without arguing and even gave the guide a $150 tip. You can believe, however, that we will never use Get Hooked Charters again and will tell everyone we know not to use them based on this disastrous experience combined with poor customer service and attention to detail. read more

This was one of the best experiences of my life! Captain Kevin got us right on the fish. Out in the water the view was stunning! He answered all our questions- and we asked a lot of questions. A few people from work got together for a day of fishing with the good folks at Get Hooked. This was my first time fishing since I was a little girl and I had so much fun! Our Captain Dave was really informative and friendly, and made sure everyone was having a good time. When the fish stopped biting he would relocate to another one of his spots and we'd start to get some more action. I highly recommend this for a group outing. Tips for your group: Get there on time, car pool if you can due to limited parking, bring Sunscreen and Sunglasses, and try to consolidate coolers to ensure walking space on the boat. May 19th fishing trip for 11-year-old B-day celebration. The cost was $800.00 for a 1/2 day trip for 4 adults and 2 children ages 11 and 13. Had to pay extra for a deckhand and had to pay gratuity as well (not included in $800.00 fee). Was told had to pay a gratuity of 20% (per contract). Was told there was a bathroom on the boat, there was not. Started day off at 5:30 am and wait 20 min for bait at bait camp. Had expected this would be a great fishing trip for son's 11 yo bday but to my surprise, we only caught a rock, seaweed, and 2 small catfish (about 3 oz each). Left the dock with only vests for children and was expecting vest for adults as we ventured out...but only to discover they were back at the dockside. Please bring your own vests. The captain took us out towards the jetties after dropping line near the ship channel (which they dropped the 1 line for themselves...) spent 30 minutes there and they did not catch anything. Finally made our way to the Jetties after crossing over scary wave conditions and didn't catch anything there either (a rock and seaweed). Also, the weights used for fishing were light, so, during the slightly windy ( I mean slightly) conditions the weights provided did not sink down for fishing and only came back towards the boat, so no success there. If you go, bring your own equipment as they already have theirs and do not "substitute", you use what they have. Also, don't ask if they have a fish finder, lol, this will upset the captain. I was surprised that we even went into a small inlet near the area where the cruise ships dock and again, nothing, but we did see lots of trash floating near the dock where we were "fishing". We expected the skills of the captain to be much better than we experienced and felt very disappointed that we did not even have true "big bite" for our 11 yo experience. So, my recommendation, bring your own vests, bring your own equipment, question the captain, and don't drink before you depart because you will have a 4-hour trip. I would not recommend this charter, as the company did not even offer a break in price, no extra fishing time and got their gratuity as recommended. The boat was left clean so they were prepped and ready for the next 4-hour afternoon trip. I am a BOI and left in 2006 and very familiar with the waters of Galveston and perhaps the times have changed so that now, even the fishing industry is just out to collect your money and not offer a bit more of appeasing the customer (not even a t-shirt, LOL). It was a lesson learned, but if you are considering this trip, bring your own vests for your safety. read more

Took a trip out on GHC yesterday with my wife and son for his 14th birthday. Let me start by explaining that we had booked another trip that got canceled just 2 days before the trip due to mechanical problems. We had already traveled down here and were in the hotel when we found out so yes I was upset because who wants their kids bday trip ruined, right? Anyway, we started looking (at 930 pm) to see who could get us on in short notice and we called GHC. Got Melody on the phone and she was very understanding and very nice. She got us on a bay/jetty trip for the same day we had originally planned. Not exactly what we had planned (had a 50 mile trip planned) but we decided as a family "we came to fish so lets fish". Met captain Aaron at 11:30am sharp. He asked my son what he wanted to catch today, which i thought was awesome, after all this is his bday! My son said he wanted to have some fish to take home to eat and the he wanted some big fish for the battle of getting them in the boat. Capt Aaron did just that! He put us on Trout immediately! We caught trout and lady fish one after the other! Some trout weren't keepers and some were but we were having fun! He told us the lady fish were the best bait to catch sharks we could possibly get and I thought oh okay you are just telling me this but we fished on and continue to have fun! After a couple hours the fishing slowed so capt Aaron suggested that we go try and catch a shark. I thought no way we will but okay let try this. We fish for maybe 30 minutes and have great conversation with our captain and the rod folds over!!! Bam, my son has something big on the line! Caught an approx 4 ft black tip shark. Capt dropped it trying to pull it in the boat but i got pics as he was trying to get it in. Not his fault, i would have dropped it too. Anyway, he was upset that he dropped the fish and we continued to fish with him vowing that we catch another shark. Started to get a little slow when he suggested my son do a shark dance of any kind and we would catch something. My son did a little dance and not 2 minutes later here we go again with a fight on our hands! Got another fish on the line! All in all we caught 3 sharks..a black tip, a spinner shark, Atlantic sharpnose and we were able to bring home some shark and trout to eat! My son had a BLAST thanks to GHC and capt Aaron!! Thanks guys! You saved the day! What could have been a bad bday trip turned out awesome! We recommend GHC and capt Aaron to anyone!! Where to start set up a 8hr shark fishing trip on a Sunday for 6 people. The forcast for that day was 80 highest drizzling and 5-10 mph winds. Before driving to galveston which btw I live in katy tx I call to make sure if the trip is still good to go and they give me a green light so me and my buddies which btw they are from kansas we head out there and it is raining harder than it was back home so as soon and we arrive captain tells us ok you guys have a choice either we go today and see what we get or come back another day since my friends were from out of town we choose to go since it would be months for us to set up once again so we head out and midway through captain tells us due to weather we will no longer be going out to the oil rigs to catch shark we have to stay in the jetties so now everyone is pissed but what can you do so we started fishing and hooked up to two fish must have been shark since both cut the leaders straight off which got me thinking if we're going out for shark why are we putting hooks directly on monofilament line anyway after those 2 bites nothing else was caught we moved to other areas and nothing was biting we called it short only fished for 5hrs at the end of the day we caught a 15 in gaftop catfish and had to pay 950dlls we tried talking our situation with someone at the office and they said they couldn't due anything for us. We told them countless of times we didn't even shark fish we were in the jetties and the jetty trip is cheaper than your shark trip by like 200dls and they didn't budge so this will be the first and the last trip I take with get hooked charters read more

I am from Galveston and yes I have my own boat to start off with. I have been fishing my whole life, salt and fresh water. My best friend is a Chief Engineer in the USCG, and was coming home on leave. So I booked a trip with Get Hooked Charters. Melody, was the person I spoke with to book the trip and she could not have been nicer. My friend, my dad and I met the Captain Mike Short at the Yacht Basin at 6 a.m. I am B.O.I. "Born on the Island", and this was my first chartered trip. Capt. Mike could not have been any better! Not only was he spot on with the fish, he was a riot. We laughed the whole time. That day I caught the biggest Bull Red of my life! It was 52 inches, Capt. Mike scanned it, recorded the whole thing on his video camera, and later sent me a DVD of the whole trip. We released the fish after I landed it but we continued to catch fish after fish. It got to the point to where I could not reel in the fish anymore.
