The Jermaine's luau was an authentic luau on the beach, the entertainment was awesome, with the fire dancers and the food was good. This was my second time. The last time was in 1983, It didn't disappoint.

We'd rate the experience a solid 4 out of 5. The food was decent, though we were especially excited for the pork and it didn't quite meet our expectations. The staff were friendly, and the drinks were fine, but the non‑alcoholic options were pretty limited (just a few sodas, punch, and coffee). It rained during our visit, but the show continued, which we appreciated. The "tattoo" station used sharpies, so we skipped that--henna would've been a nicer touch. The handmade flower hair pieces were lovely. The complimentary gift is a glass, while the Tiki cups cost $18. You can purchase additional alcoholic drinks after using your two included ones, but they're on the pricey side. My virgin piña colada was $18 for a small cup. The views, however, were beautiful, and the sunset was stunning. They also take photos at the beginning, which are available for $30 for two images.

I knew I wanted to go to a luau in Hawaii and Germaine's was such a fun one to go to! We did not take the bus to the venue so I cannot speak to that experience but I can say that when we arrived parking was really easy. We were welcomed warmly by every staff member we encountered. We also loved receiving our necklaces and being able to take a group photo with one of the dancers. When you enter the venue you completely forget you're in an industrial area. The venue is right on the beach, complete with sea breeze and gently-swaying palm trees. We had a table in the second row and had a perfect view of the stage. The bar, soft drink/coffee area and restrooms were all easy to identify and access. The drinks were fair - two drink tickets were included in the price of our tickets. I had 4 cocktails (two Blue Hawaii's, Mai Tai and a vodka soda) and didn't really feel much but they were quite yummy. The food was actually a lot better than some of these reviews give it credit for! I particularly enjoyed the kalua pig, island fish and the beef. It was especially cool to be able to watch the pig being pulled from the underground oven! The show itself was absolutely spectacular. I loved the review of dances from all different Pacific islands and our MC was ravishing - she had a fun, beautiful personality and gorgeous voice. The band was great, the costumes were mesmerizing and the performances were all top-notch. Huge shout out to the Chief and his fiery performance! Thank you Germaine's for a wonderful night! I'll be sure to return the next time I'm in Hawaii.

I debated with family/myself if I should post this review but reading all the 1-2 star review with my same complaints -- I think this should be shared as Germaine's promised me that they will make changes with operations but apparently the problems keep repeating/happening FOR YEARS. Germaine's Lua was recommended by family, friends and clients. This was my first luau and celebrated my birthday here. First, they told us TO SIT AT ANY TABLE WITHOUT any reservation cards. There are tables that says reserved, some none. We sat at a green mantel table and just about before the show started -- we were told to present our "folders" rudely as this is a reserved table WITHOUT any reserved placards. We then moved to a table without any mantel. This guy didnt say a word, eventually just as the female host started talking -- this guy told us we can't sit at a table without a mantel. He then proceeded to SQUEEZE IN EACH MEMBER OF MY FAMILY ON DIFFERENT TABLES. This is a family affair and he wanted us to squeeze in to DIFFERENT tables. How smart is that? We were one of numerous families that complained. WHY HAVE SO MANY TABLES IF PEOPLE CAN'T USE IT. They eventually Opened another table. Didn't get an apology from this guy. As much as the show was good -- it didn't feel welcoming from the start. I didn't feel welcome. I felt forced to do things I didn't want. This totally ruined my birthday, ruined my vacation. So unhappy. I complained via email and I got really offended when they said "Maybe they were thinking you were trying to pull a fast one." Whoever called me was very confrontational but eventually mellowed down and apologized. She said she will make sure operational changes happen. They gave us the option of DOING THE LUAU again for free or get a 20% off. I really don't think I want to do this luau again. Why? My complaints were the same complaints from years ago. It will fall on deaf ears.

If you're looking for an exceptional Hawaiian luau place -- look no further! Germaine's got it all. The staff is extremely patient and friendly. Each person we interacted with had a positive demeanor and looked happy to be helping out. This really added to our experience! The food is to die for. Normally, I am not a fan of buffet style meals, but Germaine's was an exception. So many flavorful, authentic Hawaiian food choices to pick from! I filled my plate and ended up cleaning it. The luau performances were incredible. I am very happy with my decision to visit Germaine's. Definitely worth the price!

Advanced reservations are recommended. We booked direct from their website and saved 10% off. Not much social distancing at your very own table, but since it's outdoors, it wasn't too bad. Masks required when roaming around. The MC eventually asked everyone to stop taking pictures by the water because too many people were crowding around the area, but it was a beautiful location inside the venue. Outside driving in looks more like an industrial area. Parking was easy and that the attendant has you scan a code for your party for contact tracing. The drive was about 30-45 minutes from Honolulu/Waikiki area, depending on traffic. They also offer pick-up from hotels near Waikiki, I think it was $25-35/pp. You line up to get your tickets for the night (which includes the free drink tickets), then there's a line for photos with one of the performers, and then there's a line to get shown your seats & table and grab some appetizers & water. A bit difficult to socially distance when waiting for drinks at the bar and all the lines...It was a full house when we went (08/22), the MC mentioned 600 ppl total... Drinks at the bar averaged $5, but each adult gets at least 1 free alcoholic drink. Sodas are complimentary. The food wasn't served until around 7pm and they call the side tables (with the standard package) to get up and get the food one at a time. (I'm guessing prior to COVID, it was buffet style.) Then after everyone's been served, they allow people to grab seconds. Food was okay, what I expected. The appetizer was a salad and fruits and Lomi (Salmon & Tomato Salad), and Poi. I didn't like the poi here. Kalua Pig was a bit dry and salty, the BBQ Chicken was good, Mac Salad was fine. There was also a dinner roll and a couple of small desserts (coconut and I can't remember what else). The performance was just okay. I haven't been to a luau since I was younger so I'm not sure if my memory serves me incorrectly, but I just felt like the one I went to before was longer. The chief fire dancer is still my favorite, though! Given everything going on with COVID and all the new protocols, I think Germaine's is good. If you want to get the more expensive package, you can avoid the some of the lines because the servers will come right to your table for the food and drinks.

The location of the luau is the best, we loved how it was on the beach and we could take pictures before there and dog our toes in the sand during the luau. We bought the Plumeria package, which came with closer seating, a waiter, 3 drink tickets, lei necklace, and souvenir items photos. If you have the money to splurge I would: this all made our time very enjoyable. We loved the souvenir photos to document our trip with. The food was okay; nothing wonderful but I didn't expect that going into it. It's not a buffet due to Covid but our waitress's brought it out to us on a tray. And at the end you could ask for seconds. I like that we got 3 drink tickets with our package. However I wish there told us if it was dark or light rum in each drink; if you only like light. Stick with the blue Hawaiian. Drinks are small but decently poured w alcohol. The show was also okay, I've seen better luaus before but again it was entertaining. The bathrooms however were DISGUSTING, looks like they've never been cleaned. Huge toilet bowl rings. Overall I would suggest this luau if you have the money to splurge for the better package.

Don't settle for less this is the by far the best Luau on the island of Honolulu ... the food is on point and very delicious the drinks ehhhh not that great to bland and not enough liquor . The show was really good and the performers do the job right .. you gotta come Here if you want a good show trust me you won't be disappointed ..

We choose this luau because its one of the only open right now. I thought the luau was okay. Very average. Food was ok, but bland. Covid precautions are maintained and people are spaced out. The location is on the beach about 20-30 drive from Waikiki.

I saw a lot of bad reviews, but my husband said that's one of best best Luau he has ever been when he was a kid. It's about 180 dollars per person that including the transportation (the luau is on the more remote side at the west of the island, about 1 hour drive during traffic and 40 mins back to Waikiki), an all you can eat style buffet with drinks including 2 alcohol per person and of course the entertainment! The bus came to pick us up on time and our auntie Lisa was cracking up jokes on the way there; she made the ride more fun! Once you got there, they will check you in and take a group picture of your family and then directing us to the dining area. The dining area for our ticket is free seating! Dinner was actually much better than I expected! I didn't have high expectations because knowing it's just a food at luau but it's not bad at all and you can always go back for second or third till you are tired! The entertainment was a typical performance including singing, dancing and the fire show! What I like also is the interactions with the audiences. People said it's cheesy! Lol all luau is cheesy and we are tourist and we are ok to be cheesy and having a good time!

It is very simple but shows you the different dances and traditions, they have really nice activities prior to the actual luau The food is not the best but it is included, one of the males dancers make the show 10 times better he is just funny

Amazing experience!!!! Definately out in the stcks but I am so glad we did this......very memorable!! We loved it!
Backstory: I'm on a girl's birthday trip. This is my second trip to Hawaii. For two sisters, it's their first and they wanted a luau experience. We were original Mauka on a Friday, but that was cancelled due to weather. When trying to reschedule, we debated our options and ended up at Germaine's. It was not our preferred choice due to some reviews, but the beach location swayed us. It's a good distance from Waikiki, and we thought at some point we'd gotten lost in an industrial district, but after a few turns we found ourselves in paradise. We paid for parking and everything was uphill from here. We started with check in and photos. Then onto flower making for our hair, a quick sunset selfie and a return for a temporary tattoo. Then the evening's big highlights began. We gathered for the unearthing and presentation of the pig, then returned to our tables for dinner service. The Mistress of Ceremony, Serena, has such a warm demeanor. She referred to us all as cousins and family, and honored special celebrations of those in attendance (anniversaries, birthdays, etc). I realized this was all routine, but Serena had a way of making us each feel special. Food was buffet style unless you paid for VIP. VIP had their food brought to them. The menu was fine. I got a little of everything, but was most satisfied with the teriyaki chicken and rice. I added some vegetables from my friend's vegan option. While we dined, we were educated and entertained by Polynesian history and dance. Everything was beautiful. I'm happy we had a chance to witness this little piece of Hawaiin culture, beauty and sweetness. A-lo-ha! read more
This was a wonderful luau experience with pretty beach on the background. This event was packed with all the seats taken. We chose the Central Area Seating (Original Luau) ticket for us. This place was easy to find because all the cars were lining up for the event and they opened the gate around 5:30pm or so. They charged few dollars for the parking fee. Checking in was easy a they gave us colored bands. After we checked in, they let us choose our seats within yellow tables that they already set up. There was a drink fountain that people can get soft drinks in the back. Half way through the performances, we were able to get foods from the buffet. They were calling people from table to table to go to the buffet. All the foods were good and everything is as expected. Alcoholic drinks should be stronger though. Too much water and not enough alcohol. I loved all the performances because they were interesting and interactive. All the costumes and designs matched their characters that they were performing. 5 out of 5 on performances. They truly represented their culture and their way of their lifestyle during their performances. The lady announcer was funny and very interactive with people. They also had pre-show cultural activities such as flower headbands making and tattooing art as you please. They were fun activities. We had fun and we immersed ourselves in Polynesian cultural show at the beachfront under the stars. Highly recommend this luau! You won't regret it! read more

I'm currently reading Haunani-Kay Trask's book, From a Native Daughter: Colonialism and Sovereignty in Hawaii. It provides a very different perspective than the one given at "cultural events" like Germaine's Lu'au and expresses the complicated relationship that Naive Hawaiians and locals have with tourists. I recommend the book if you want to understand the side of the narrative that is maybe less publicized. If you want to live in the fantasy world that Germaine's allows you to escape to, too, that's ok, too. But this is what was salient to me when I visited Germaine's. Anyway. My cousin and his girlfriend were visiting and, of course, wanted to go to a Lu'au. I haven't been to a touristy lu'au in like 10 years, so I let my parents handle the reservations. My dad chose Germaine's probably because he, too, hasn't been to a lu'au in 10 years and Germaine's used to be the best. I don't know how much tickets normally are, but the kama'aina rate is $60 per person. As a kama'aina, I was able to bring in 3 non-residents at the kama'aina rate, so that was cool. Before leaving on the long journey to kapolei, my mom reminded me to make sure we get in early to "play the games". I guess she was talking about how before, they had games set up.... probably like 'ulu maika? Idk because when we got there, they had us wait in our cars. I guess because of COVID, they don't have games and want a more controlled check in process. Get here early. We went early and waited in the long line of cars. Yes, we drove through Ko'olina before hand and the stark contrast between Ko'olina (where the Disney Aulani hotel is) and the drive to get to Germaine's is appalling. If you get there early, you will have to wait in your car longer, but you will also be released first to check in and have your choice of tables/seating. This is important later. It was fun watching tourists try to back their rental cars up into their stalls in the parking lot and even funnier to watch people anxiously moving around trying to get in. The uncles directing cars were assertive though and everyone followed directions for the most part. We checked in, took some touristy pictures with people who have more melanin in their skin than I do. They let us keep a shell lei (btw, locals never wear these shell lei probably made by children in india). You can google "Ni'ihau shell lei" on Etsy to see what people in Hawaii actually wear when we wear shell lei. Anyway.... Because we were there a little on the early side, we had been released from our cars a little earlier than most. There are 2 sets of tables. The prime seats closest to the stage are for the more expensive ticket holders. Because we paid the discounted kama'aina rate, we were in the second set of tables, father away from the stage. There are definitely decent seats in the second tier, but you have to get them early because they fill up. Oh, btw, these are picnic tables that are meant to be communal. Your ticket comes with a drink ticket. Nothing to be excited about. The food was a buffet line, but they had workers to serve. The food included: salad, fruit, rice, mac salad, poi, lomi salmon, chicken, pork, beef, fish, rolls and haupia. It was just ok, but you could go back for more. My cousin liked the teriyaki chicken haha. I liked the kalua pig, but it's pretty hard to mess up kalua pig (I overheard some tourists asking for more carnitas...haha!) The poi and lomi salmon are served in these tiny containers, proabably so people dont waste, but it's literally one bite. I got like 5 containers of poi. The dancing and entertainment was good. I have some friends who dance in other luaus and I might be biased, but I think they are better. The dancers at Germaines were ok, but they weren't always in sync and even though I understand this isn't Merrie Monarch, I wasn't blown away. It was nice that the music was live and that they performed dances from Samoa, Tahiti and New Zealand. It had a polynesian cultural center vibe. It wasn't a long show. They do the whole bringing people up on stage to dance thing that I'm not really a fan of. For what it is, it was ok. I would never come back for myself. I don't have anything to compare this to other than the various family celebration lu'aus I have been to and obviously, I can't compare this to them. read more

It was a little theatrical, I do not think truthful to the native people, in general a fair experience.

I'm so surprised to see some of the bad reviews about this place, because I had such a wonderful experience. First, my friends and I were like 30 minutes late because we went ATV'ing beforehand. They called to check on us, which I thought was super nice. We got there and were greeted by the friendly staff, took pictures, and chatted. Overall, I was so pleased with the entertainment and talent. The drinks were good and the food was just okay. However, the experience is why I'm giving this a 5/5. I hope you all decide to try it or give them another chance! read more

This was our first luau and we really enjoyed it. Parking was easy, with plenty of space to roam, beautiful views, lots of food variety, and the teens loved every bite! I really enjoyed myself at this luau. We arrived early because we purchased the general admission tickets and ended up with really good seats. Also the location was very scenic because the property was on the beach, so we def got some good golden hour flicks while we waited for the venue to fill up. Keep in mind that due to covid, there is no longer a buffet. The food is still all you can eat, you just have to tell your waiter. Pro tip: At this point I believe I have a Master's in luaus so I'm passing over this ESSENTIAL tip to the Yelp community. When you see your waiter, order multiple drinks because once they leave, you might not see them till later and by then it's last call. Only 1 drink comes with the GA tickets, then it's $5 bucks. Also bring cash!!! Lastly, the performances was pretty epic. This luau had a mistress of ceremony and she was fun!!! read more

Loved my time here! The performance was entertaining and all the staff was really friendly. I highly recommend paying a little more to get the more expensive seating. It was nice to have servers for drinks and food and not have to wait in any long lines for that lol. Every time we wanted another drink or new food, we had a server at our table in about a minute, so we never really had to wait. Plus , the view of the stage was much better. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because I was expecting a little more from the food. It wasn't bad, but wasn't great. I didn't eat a lot of food on my plate, but the pork was good! read more

Location- the drive was too long and far from Waikiki. Looks like a junk yard around the luau. The place nearby look sketchy but the moment you walked in, I felt a little safer. Food- Mac and cheese salad, dessert, pork, fish, and chicken all on one plate with a scoop of rice. On a separate container, there was salad, fruits, and some sauce or salmon they wanted us to try... I expected better food for what I paid. I didn't like the fact that they gave everyone the same food without asking for our dietary restrictions. They also had tickets for drinks. Soda was free but if you want cocktails or any other drink, you need a ticket. It's 3 drinks ticket per person. Plumeria package- I got the Plumeria package so I was seated in the front and server came and dropped off food and drinks for us. Gift shop- fairly empty. Not much to buy... Upon arrival at 6:15 pm, they checked us in and asked for contact covid tracing. Then, we walked towards the counter and got our temperature check. At the counter, we gave them our name and got an envelope. Inside the envelope, it was wrist band, a card to pick up your photos afterwards, drink tickets. Based on the package you've purchased, you either got a small leis or nut leis. Oh yeah, on the side note, they spelled my name wrong on the envelope... :/ As you walk, you will be asked to take a picture with Polynesian model/greeter. There were multiple stations for this. The photographer will give you the leis and take a picture. I had quite a lot of people in my group, instead of taking multiple photos with different people, they only took two pictures which was disappointing because all of my pictures were the same for all of us :/ Then, there was a long line to be seated, the line was about 20 mins wait. The moment I was seated, we got appetizers (fruits, salad, etc) we wanted refill on appetizers and pressed the button but server never arrived. However, there was a separate button for the drinks. Our drink server checked on us periodically which was nice. They didn't start the show until 7:30-8 pm, which I felt was a bit late. We spent pretty much 60% of the time waiting for food. It rained that day so there were moisture in the sand thus lots of mosquitoes. Please use some bug sprays before going there. I came back with multiple mosquito bites. If you had regular package, expect to wait in line for food and expect to wait in line to purchase your picture. The performance was OK, kind of repetitive after 30+ mins since the host does everything (sing, host the show, announcements) Overall, it was OK luau. It could definitely be better. read more
This is the only luau I've ever been to and have nothing else to compare it to, but I enjoyed myself. Besides the boxed salad, I enjoyed the rest of my food which consisted of kalua pork, BBQ chicken, BBQ beef, fried fish, rice, macaroni salad, and some dessert. You can go back for more once everyone has had a chance to eat. Sides of poi and salmon salad thing if you want too were available. Drinks were watered down a little though. The staff was very friendly and the show was pretty fun. We took an Uber out there and it cost us $70+. I asked them if we could ride back into Waikiki on their bus and they let us ($15 each) since they had space. Should've done the bus both ways. read more
Loved it! The location is a little wonky since it's in an industrial area but they do a good job of making you forget about that. We had free tickets for the hibiscus package and it was a great deal! We were quick to get food, saw the pig ceremony, had 2 drinks each (we secretly both got another free drink.. thank you!!), had great seats, and it was a very comfortable enjoyable experience! It was my boyfriend first luau and he loved it! It made me so happy! We had cousin greg was our host and hes super funny. Hes more of like your strict uncle rather than your crazy young spunky cousin lol so just a warning. But he was very funny!! And knew his stuff. Honestly, I enjoyed this so much that I'm giving it 5 stars but I wouldn't recommend this to someones first luau. This is like my 6th luau but my favorite ones have always been ones where you arent roped off from the beach, theres lots of history, and theres many activities to do like fake tattoos and lei making. But thank you so much for making our vacay a little more fun! read more
Germaine's was one of the highlights of our trip to Honolulu. So much fun watching the show and meeting people from various places. We thought the food was really good and the drinks were even better. People kept bringing me Blue Hawaiians from the bar (can't complain about that! LOL). We just bought a regular ticket which came with dinner, show, a welcome drink and transportation from a designated hotel. I think it came to about $120 per person, we pre-paid. Thought it was a good time and totally worth it. Start to finish was about 5 1/2 hours which includes transportation time. ***Highly recommended*** read more
We had a good time at Germaine's. I think the Plumeria seating is worth the extra money, just based on convenience. Sure its touristy, but it was a fun night and the food was really good. The pork was the consensus best and all of us got seconds on that! read more

Loved Germaines! We have been there 3 times and each time was a different experience. Best Luai in Oahu!

The bus ride was long due to road construction and traffic. Registration and complimentary photos were flawless. Adult beverages were almost void of alcohol. Food line was buffet style, but food quality was probably an acquired taste. The show was very good, best part of the evening. There was a little confusion on receipt of pictures. And the ride back was quicker due to rush hour traffic having cleared. Overall, not sure that evening was worth the price. read more

If you're looking for the Disneyland of Luau's, then this is the one. It has an extremely commercialized feel and look to everything. The tour busses flooding the parking lot was the first sign upon arrival. Not to mention the very odd industrial area its located at. Honolulu is currently a hotspot for COVID and this place felt like a potential epicenter for it. My husband and I were so uncomfortable with the mass amount of people that were there (700+ from what they said). This was our second time to Oahu and unfortunately the Luau we wanted to go to was booked. We came for my Mom's 70th birthday and she wanted to go for her day. This was decently rated compared to others so we decided to book it for everyone (9 in total). The food is typically the same at these so I didn't expect much. To be honest though, I've had better food in hospital cafeterias. Everything was flavorless sloppy mush. We booked the original package for $135 a person which included general seating, 2 drink tickets each, and a cheap shell "Lei". For an additional $40 you can get upgraded tickets which include reserved seating, first in line for the buffet, and two additional drink tickets. I live in NM which is rich in cultural diversity, including numerous native American tribes and latino ancestry. Our state shares in that culture and is immersed in those traditions. The dances at the Luau felt very unauthentic and forced. Like I said. The Disneyland of Luau's. If you want a more authentic Luau I suggest looking up Toa's Luau. It's at the Waimea Valley and is put on by a big family. When we went back in 2018, it was honestly one of the best nights ever. When we come back in a few years I'll make darn sure to book them far in advance. read more

This was an amazing experience. The performers were great, the host nailed it and the service was flawless. The story line was educational with showmanship! The food was good, but one of the few who still bury and cook the pig in the ground and make you a part of the ceremonies. Overall I though it was a great experience. I'd book again! read more
My first-ever luau, and it was quite an interesting experience. Once we were dropped off from the bus, they started off by giving us all leis and taking a group picture. It's a great picture spot, right next to the ocean, the waves are beautiful, and a great view of the sunset. You can buy this picture for $20 at the end of the night. From here until the beginning of the performances, nothing was really going on, so we decided to redeem our drink (alcoholic) tickets (you get two per person). There was free unlimited soda, juice and water for the kids. Next they start the performances, and table by table, you could start getting food. My only recollection of the food is the amount of flies that were touching all the food in the buffet line, not sure if this is normal, but it was quite unappetizing. Even with the drinks, we had to cover them up when we weren't drinking them. Once the performances started, it got a bit better, although it wasn't super entertaining, besides the guy playing with fire. Once again, nothing much going on during the performances, I didn't feel like getting seconds of the food. They started cleaning and closing an hour before the show was over and didn't let my girlfriend's grandma get hot water, very upsetting. You get to take pictures with the dancers at the end, so that was pretty cool. Overall, a good one time experience, but I don't think I will be back to Germaine's. read more
A lot of the reviews weren't amazing so I was a little scared for our visit. I ended up being pleasantly surprised. We arrived kind of early. When you park they told us to stay in the car until 6 pm which was fine because honestly it was warm outside. When it was time to get out we found a table. Even though there was a lot of people there everything felt super organized. We spent the time before the show started grabbing drinks and taking in the nice view. I feel like the show was pretty entertaining. The parts that involved the audience were especially hilarious. The food was very good! It was all you can eat, buffet style. Honestly there were so many choices I never got up for seconds. Overall I had a really enjoyable experience here. I don't have much to compare it to but as a first timer it was great! read more

Germaines used to be one of the top luaus in Hawaii because of their food buffet, but Covid left it with box dinners and limited selection. The entertainment is still good, but like other luaus, has to practice social distancing and the original experience no longer is. Drinks are also watered down (which has not changed). read more

It was a beautiful and lively luau! My hubby and kids enjoyed theur first luau here! I have been to a a couple differebt ones on thus usland and can say, this one had the better food and dancing variety! The venue is smaller than the competitor's but a bit more intimate. The singing and music performance that was live made it feel like we were listening to a radio, whatrvet acoustic or system they used was so neat. The narrator gal had the best voice! We enjoyed the wonderful food that were many meat options but i dont wa t to spoil it for everyone, you just have to try it. The reason for 4 stars is the bus ride was very wonky, our driver seemed new and our photo wasnt of the best quality that they took. read more

Worst Luau I've ever been to. First, we were told to be there at 5:30 for check in and when we arrived, we were asked to wait in our cars in the parking lot until signaled to enter. 40 minutes later, we finally got the signal so we could wait in a line for another half hour. That all aside, the Luau was a big bore with constant breaks in the subpar entertainment. The food was mediocre at best. We didn't even stay for the so called fire dance finale as we were bored to tears after slogging through almost 3 hours of torture. Don't waste your money on this sorry excuse of a cattle call. 57 tables at over $100 a head, they are raking it in, and giving back an inauthentic experience IMHO. Sorry! read more

Where to begin?? Let me just bullet everything out... 1) located at the end of a drive through an industrial area (can't do anything about that but be prepared) 2) people were being shooed back to their tables as they tried to take pictures (note that everyone was either fully vaccinated or had tested negative for COVID within the previous 72 hours) 3) in spite of being told to stay seated and not to mill around, social distancing was NOT enforced in the bar line 4) we were seated at 5:30 but didn't eat until 7:30 (long time to stay seated with nothing to do) 5) food was not good 6) dinky plastic cutlery broke while eating 7) show wasn't long enough I've been to other luaus so I had a point of reference to compare this luau to and there was just no comparison. It was the cheapest luau in the area and you get what you pay for. Spend a little more and go to a different luau. read more

The service was great and Germaine's was an interactive luau. Seems a little commercialized but it's okay. I kind of expected that. What really stood out was the staff being attentive to the needs of the guest. For example- our family member was picked to dance on stage, but while he was doing that our table got called up to get food. We didn't want to leave our family member on stage so we waited for him to go together. When he got off stage, the next round of people had been called to get food. Mind you, we were in the vip tier because you get distinguished by the type of lei you receive. Well the guy who was maneuvering the line noticed our lei and he immediately made sure that we got what we paid for with our food option. I guess we got more food options vs the other people they purchased a different package. That's what stood out to me and also the cleanliness of the staff for throwing away the trash when we were done. They didn't rush us or anything. During Covid, you would think that people were scared to be in a big crowd, but I didn't mind because the luau is outside and we weren't sitting next to people within a close proximity at our table. The location itself looks kind of strange since the road looks like it's in the middle of an industrial area but then u arrive and Germaine's and it's its own little hidden gem next to a beach. Overall, fun experience for families. Only complaint is that The bathrooms were a little meh because they were getting renovated so there were temporary large portable bathrooms. That's understandable, but I hope they've since finished remodeling their bathrooms. read more

History
Established in 1976.
Germaine's Luau has been inviting visitors to experience a traditional Hawaiian backyard-style Luau.
Meet the Manager: Aulani K.
Our namesake, Marcia Germaine (who hails from Chicago), fell in love w/ the islands, the people and the "hang loose" feeling of Hawaii. She decided all visitors to the islands should experience the same Ohana (family) style of Aloha. Because of his she sold all of her belongings and moved to Oahu in the 1960's and decided to start her own "luau."
Ask the Community - Germaine's Luau
What if you get there very early? Anything to do there while you wait?
Lots of photo opportunities and that's about it. You're driving thru a lot of industrial before you get there so nothing scenic till you get there. Not sure if the bar would be open that early. The gift shop is very tiny.

Germaines Lauau is the best evening you could have in Hawail, we went for my Daughters Hen party and from getting on the bus (Bus 3) to start to getting off at the end of the night it was great , Reno was absolutely awesome and I don't think I have laught so much in a long time. The show was very good and we all enjoyed the food and had the most fun a hen party could possible have. The hole team at Germaines were great and looked after us really well from the booking right throu to the evening. Thank you all again we had a night to remember. read more
