Word of warning, John, the dad, can be try to make you happy by telling you what he thinks you want to hear. Don't be shy about getting in his face and pinning him down about what will be done when and getting exact dates. Once again I waited about six months before posting anything on Yelp. Our experience with Storey Construction was absolutely HORRIBLE....a never-ending nightmare of…read moreincompetence. They constantly made mistakes that they then charged us to repair. They misrepresented their professionalism and abilities and then fraudulently charged us when we posted a truthful review on this website. The photos speak for themselves. We met with John and Ty many times at our home and at their flooring store regarding projects at our home. Ty the owner of Storey Construction offered to not send fraudulent charges he invoiced us months after we parted ways if we pulled down our review and signed a non-disclosure agreement. Seriously has to be one of the worst contractors in Austin. They talk down to the employees and bad mouth them on a daily basis. They yelled at us when expensive mistakes were made because "they didn't know what was going on." Since they are talking a 20% cut of your whole project they should know what's going on, but they don't and they blame the client's for being "difficult" when they can't open the new front door their guys installed. (Oh, and their guys installed it while gouging our new hardwood floor...repair was offered but we wanted nothing more to do with these amateurs.) Do yourself a favor and find another contractor; this one forces unhappy clients to sign NDAs and offers financial incentives to clients who will leave good reviews. This is not about money...I posted a 2-star review on June 1st, 2017, 3 weeks later we were fraudulently billed $1,100. When Ty was contacted via email about the bogus charges he would only speak over the phone and said the charges were generated 8 weeks after our final payment because of my Yelp review posted on June 1st. I have learned Yelp has no dedicated department to field intimidation threats from business owners. My husband was told by Ty the charges would "go away" if we pulled down the reviews and signed a non-disclosure agreement. The charges were for $1,100 we paid Ty's businesses close to $50,000 in total. We also have the final statement which shows they removed the $1,100 charge because it was bogus. Here's what happened, we ordered 5 new doors for install, 3 wood, 2 fiberglass. I wanted to order them pre-painted but was told by Ty and John unfinished was the way to go. They swore their guys were master painters and that the price would be cheaper as it would be a flat rate rather than hourly. We paid their flat rate in full before the doors even arrived. Then on the final bill they tried to charge us for 10 or 18 extra hours of work for the painting of the doors. That was never agreed to, there was never any change order sent and we proved the painting charges were included in the previous bill so the new charge was removed. Then we received a bill for the amount that they removed from our final bill in April on June 22nd. We sent Storey Construction a Certified Letter concerning our dispute with the bill. We also filed a complaint with the Austin Better Business Bureau to which they never responded but is on file for the next 3 years. There we have evidence to our claim. Instead of responding to our request to proof these charges were legitimate Ty sent the bill to collections in early July. Our only request in our BBB complaint was for the fraudulent charges to be vacated and for a written apology for our atrocious treatment. The mistakes to our home were ongoing to the point we mutually made a decision to part ways because their sub-contractors were too incompetent to complete the job without further damage. If you like being berated for requesting that the job is done right then this is the contractor for you. When John told his guys to skip the step of installing a door frame before installing the base boards; I waited for John to leave and instructed them not to install the base boards and I texted John a little later that I requested they not install the base boards yet. John drove back to my home to yell at me for being "difficult" before recognizing I was right. John was also the person who happily accepted two new fiberglass doors with the wrong in-swing. I was the one to catch that they both had wrong in-swings. I can't even list all of the mistakes we had to deal with but the worst is being told they'll "fix it." Your told you won't be charged more, but you will...they don't distinguish between the hours they work messing up something and the hours they work messing it up again. You'll end up paying at least 3 times when you have to hirer a real professional like we did to fix what their team did the first 2 trys. I have no doubt some customers had much experiences than we did, but I believe that far too many other Storey Construction customers have been silenced by NDAs that were signed to take care of bogus charges. That is how Ty Storey claimed to us "they take care of bad reviews."

One quoted us more and couldn't come out for a few weeks which left us with Robert from Gold Seal. He returned my call within hours of my original message and was very communicative over the phone. We wanted to remove wallpaper from several rooms and he quoted me (over the phone) the highest price if it turned out to be a difficult job. I don't know about everyone else, but give me worst-case-scenario when it comes to money. Once he arrived the job turned out to be much simpler. He suggested painting the ceiling (after all, we were saving money on the wallpaper removal), which ended up making a wonderful difference. He also works well under pressure. We had 5 days to get the entire job done before move-in and he met the deadline, even though it involved him staying late some nights and arriving really early the morning of the move. We had an issue with the ceiling paint overflowing onto our white walls we didn't intend on painting - but he matched and touched up the wall paint (at no extra cost) and you can hardly tell. Overall he was professional, friendly, COMMUNICATIVE (a problem area we ran into with other painters) and did a great job. We will definitely be calling him when we're ready to paint again!

Gold Seal Painting (Robert) came in WAY less than the rest and was CONSIDERABLY more communicative before, during and after the estimate process. Honestly, I was shocked by how attentive he was in his communication -- a breath of fresh air. He promised the job would be done in 4 days (when the rest said 5-6) and IT WAS. He started the job the day after I awarded it to him whereas the rest of the companies couldn't start for 4-5 days. He kept us abreast of any and all concerns which were few, and kept me updated constantly. He and his team even kept going when they city accidentally turned off our water. The job was completed on time and it looked truly amazing. I've already recommended him to others on message boards. I'm going to have them paint our exterior in the next few years. I can't imagine even considering anyone else.

I added the drawer request literally the day before installation - $150 upcharge, which was fair for a last-minute addition. The build is solid. Bolstered into the studs for extra support since it's going to hold an LG WM6700HBA washer and DLHC5502B heat pump dryer. Clean lines, sturdy construction, fits the space exactly like it should. Two cubby openings sized for laundry baskets underneath, plus that soft-close drawer for detergent and supplies. He matched the gray paint to coordinate with the incoming Black Steel appliances. Pricing was competitive with other quotes I got, but the turnaround and flexibility set him apart. If you need custom carpentry work done right and done fast, Gerardo's your guy. I'll likely be calling him back soon to do some matching cabinets above the washer and dryer. Very happy.

I am thrilled that we chose DGP Painting for our interior house painting and wallpaper install!…read moreThis was my first time requesting an interior paint project, and I knew they were the right company for the job when the project manager (Stephen - who worked on our quote) saw around corners and asked questions I hadn't thought of myself. The job took about 5 days, and Armando, the painter, knocked it out of the park with the quality of work done, which included drywall/baseboard repair, corner guard removal, paint and a wallpaper install. All was done exactly as we requested, all of our items and floors were covered securely, and they left the house very clean upon job completion. We WILL be calling DGP again when we're ready to paint our upstairs walls! Thank you DGP, Armando, Stephen, and Eddie for your support on our project!

My experience with DGP painters was extremely frustrating and disappointing. They prolonged this…read moreproject significantly because they were not putting in the required time or manpower. They had 19 days to paint 4,000 square feet without interruption but could not get it done. In the end, it took 26 days and they caused me significant unnecessary stress, and left problems that I will have to pay someone else to fix. However, I would rather pay someone else than allow them back into my house. In fact, I believe that they lied by telling me multiple times that they were working towards making various deadlines, then making almost no effort to meet those deadlines and not acknowledging their passing. They consistently blamed whomever they could for their lack of progress, even when they had ample opportunities to complete their work without interruption from others. They did not take accountability at any point. When we have discussed delays, Stephen and Archie frequently cite interruption from the other contractors. Other than a mold remediator, whose work could not be paused due to safety issues, I did not allow the other contractors into the house until 19 days after the start of the project, which was far after both their initial and subsequent estimates for when they would be done. Similarly, I have repeatedly communicated to Archie and Stephen that I did not expect them to complete the work in the areas that have been quarantined by mold remediation before our move-in date. That means that I was expecting them to paint less of the house than we initially had talked about, which should have taken them less time. I also communicated with Stephen about when I have intended to have the other contractors start ahead of time. I have visited the job site nearly every day since before the start of the project, sometimes multiple times a day because it is close to my work. I have seen what areas have progressed and what areas have not. I have communicated with my contractors frequently. At no point has DGP taken responsibility for the delays. DGP has been incredibly frustrating to work with. I have tried to be patient and polite, but they have made that extremely challenging. I hope that sharing my experience can help others avoid DGP painters. I have outlined our conversations in a google doc to explain why I have drawn these conclusions because my initial review significantly exceeded the character count for Yelp. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YBXpGzUrLDE9EKrultvriv-hMcBffOqt2YF_F41A60I/edit?usp=sharing
