My Father was a Chief-Cook in the CCC camp in the Ocala National forest. He learned how to make a lot of great foods, including Fruit Cake and the best (Yeast Rolls). I always thought he made the best Fruit Cake in the world until I tasted the Bourbon Fruitcake (The Womble's Fruit Cake). His is still better, but only by a little. This is a coffee shop bakery that also sells several varieties of local fruitcake. I don't think they are affiliated with any single fruitcake maker and instead they do the bakery, which is their baked goods that they make there and sell fresh, and then also sell other people's stuff that is local fruitcakes and macaroons and candied pecans and brownies and cookies stuff like that. There's a bakery counter of stuff they make, like muffins and cookies and danishes and lady fingers, and then a couple of stocked shelves of stuff they sell made by others. Not everything in their bakery section had prices up on the big menu board, but everything I saw seemed reasonable and not more than at the bakery counter at a grocery store. I got an iced mocha coffee, which was really good, and a cookie, which was pretty average, but... I think there would have been a wider selection of cookie flavors if I got here earlier in the morning. I went 30 minutes before closing, and they were out of a lot of their baked goods that they make there, because regulars in line in front of me were asking for stuff that was done for the day, so definitely get here early for a big selection. They also take orders and you can pick up, and people were picking up big orders for parties and stuff. This place is worth checking out for coffee and a snack. They have a lunch counter and some tables, if you want to eat there. read more

Yum. If you like fruit cake this is the place if you're in Georgia. Very inexpensive between $4-12 and fresh if there is such a thing with fruit cake. Not only can you get fruit cake at this location, but good coffee, soda, donuts, whinners in a blanket & a throw back to simpler times. read more

They have gourmet coffees & smoothies, and a variety of doughnuts & pastries, & breakfast sausage rolls that are made fresh daily. They also feature a selection of bagged cookies that are made in house. This is in addition to the Georgia Fruitcake & Womble's Fruitcake. They will also make Specialty Birthday Cakes to order. I called the bakery on January 8, 2013, to ask if they still have fruitcakes. A man with a southern accent answered that they did, and asked if I wanted to place an order. I placed an order at that time. After about a week, I called the company to ask when I can expect delivery, and by what carrier. The phone was answered by a fast-speaking woman with a thick foreign accent. I couldn't understand much of what she said and she didn't seem inclined to answer a direct question. I called several times after that, hoping that original man would answer, but he didn't. On one call, I asked the woman I had spoken to in a previous phone call if he was there, and it took repeated questioning before she finally said, no. Today I called again and spoke to the same woman. I asked that the man call me when he's able to. That took some doing but she finally took my name and number. The man who I had placed the order with called later. He had the same voice and southern accent, so I was sure it was him. He wasn't so friendly now, and after asking my name just once, he said he couldn't hear and handed me off to a woman I hadn't spoken to before. I had to state my name once again and go around and around with her. It was terribly frustrating. I had already called so many times and had spent so much time on this, and was still getting nowhere. As she tap-danced around, I asked if she was aware that I was calling long-distance, hoping she would just tell me the answer to my two simple questions, when is the order expected to arrive, and who is the carrier. Well, there was no way she was going to shorten the call now. She told me that "we all have jobs to do," (don't know what that was about), and that she is sick today but came to work anyway. She was carrying on. I told her to cancel my order, and hung up. The fruitcakes were to be a gift, but there would be no pleasure in giving them now. A short while afterwards, the man I had given the order to on January 8th, left a voicemail, to say that they don't have an order from me. He suggested that I call a fruitcake company in Texas, as he didn't believe that I had ever ordered from him. "If you had hung on another few minutes, we could have told you that," he chided. What he calls a few minutes, most people would call an eternity. I had called the same phone number in Georgia from first call to last. I had spoken to the same voice on the first call and on the last. While this could have started as a simple mistake, all the time and phone minutes wasted, and frustration in talking to people like this, is a good reason not to order from this company. I should have been told that my order had been lost in my second phone call. read more

Geogia Fruitcake IS my fruitcake of choice. I was never real excited about fruitcake until I moved to the area and found Ga. Fruitcake. These are AMAZING!! They also have a "Wombles Special" which is a burbon soaked cake. My daddy now EXPECTS a Wombles Special for Chistmas each year. Absolutely out of this world!!!! Fruitcakes is not the only thing they have... They have cakes, donuts, turnovers, bear claws.. (slurp) sorry, making myself hungry. All sorts of pastries. ALL unbeleivably good. Ohh and you cannot leave without trying a coconut macaroon. little balls of coconut goodness. Anytime my Aunt is in the area, she makes sure to stop by for a bag.(even if Claxton is a couple of hours out of her way) I could write for hours on the family, the pastries, the cakes, the fruitcakes, the FRESH GROUND COFFEE!!! but i will try to sum up my review with this.
