Mardi Gras has been in Mobile since 1703 - wow! Today, Mobile's family-friendly Mardi Gras consists of 40 unique parades, numerous balls, and tons of flying moon pies, beads, and trinkets! Elaborate themed floats manned by masked mystic societies, mounted police and marching bands wind through downtown Mobile and surrounding areas, entertaining nearly a million revelers each year. At the balls men wear white tie and tails and women wear full length evening gowns. It was really fun to get "dressed to the nines" for the ball we attended! Various clubs and bars offer their own particular events. Hank Aaron, my favorite baseball player, was born in Mobile and is honored by the Mobile "Hand Aaron Stadium." The USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park is just outside of Mobile and has a memorial section honoring the men and women who fought in all of our modern wars. Bellingrath Gardens and Home located about 30 minutes from Mobile proper is definitely worth a visit, especially during azalea season.

Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Jericho, Nazareth, and many other areas are depicted. Bible stories are portrayed from the time of Abraham to the life of Jesus through to just before the end of the first Temple period. You get a nice pathway to walk along for the tour as you see all the various replicas. There is usually a guide there who will take you on the tour and give you the context and scriptural references that set the scene for each of the replica places that you visit during the tour. This place got started in the late 50's and was in the press by the 60's with some additions added more recently. Overall this is an interesting place to visit and explore.

I would not suggest this for those with mobility issues as there are hills and a lot of gravel. This is amazing, a replication of the holy lands. I am sure this gentleman could have spoken for hours about this. I was here for a few hours. He is very thorough in his descriptions and the layout is just amazing. The detail was just overwhelming. I would suggest for anyone who is Christian or interested in the walk Jesus took. There is no charge for admission, but donations are accepted.

Mobile, Alabama Folklore. Apparently, there is a Leprechaun in the Tree at the end of a dead end…read moreroad on Le Cren Street in the Crichton Area. Legend says the leprechaun is there but disappears when you shine a light at him. I was skeptical of the leprechaun's presence, but I have walked by here several times while walking my dog, my dog always barks at this tree, so I know the Leprechaun is there, hiding. I am pretty sure the leprechaun is real, many Irish settled in the Mobile Area in the 1800's, so it is possible that they brought the Leprechaun with them.
