We came on a Saturday at noon, and it was absolutely packed. Luckily, there were a couple of tables open in the upstairs area. The servers are fluent in English and are quite friendly. We ordered the oyster shucker's platter, burgundy snails, and squid a la plancha tapas with scallops added. The oyster shucker's platter is a great way to try all the different kinds of seafood, consisting of oysters, prawns, whelks, and shrimp. The oysters were super fresh and plump - tasted like sea water but in the best way possible, melting in your mouth. The prawns were plump and fresh, and the shrimps were crunchy and umami. The whelks were somewhat hard to get out of their shells, but they were very chewy and satisfying. The escargot came out hot and warm, with the parsley sauce soaking into the tender snail meat. The squid was chewy yet tender, and the scallops were super soft and tender. The slight char on each piece gave a smoky, woody flavor that was wonderful. Can definitely see why people order platters and platters of this fresh seafood!

All with a bottle of Rosé and impeccable service. The "Halles" is a great spot to peruse ingredients and people watch. And at noon, to eat. Chef here used an exquisite blend of unique spices for our dishes, and the pride in his food and service was obvious. What a Treat!!! :)

That's usually a clue for me that the food will be a disappointment and the prices will be inflated. Happily I was wrong in this case. Dining areas inside and outside are typically crowded. Tiny tables are jammed together. If you are so inclined you could reach the plates of 4 other neighbor diners to steal tastes. Bambie and I settled on mussels and fries because that was what everyone was eating. And it seemed like we were the only English speaking people in the joint. Verdict: the mussels Lyonnaise style with cream were pretty good. Even though Bambie enjoyed her mussels with white wine and shallots, I thought that they tasted sour, really sour. French fried potatoes are knife cut, boiled in light oil not duck fat. Bread is decent. Our meal with big pitcher of rose wine = 35 euros.

Our waitress was nice and spoke some English, but the manager was not cooperative and didn't let me check the surveillance camera, or I doubt whether they actually have one, and yet the French police was also just a joke. This is a tourist restaurant, which means you could be a target of thieves nearby...horrible...
