The destination is usually tied to your current learning and you basically get to learn about it in real time and it is very fun. This school also has a great community with doing stuff from "RMSEL Olympics" to "the cereal box challenge" and many more. This school is nothing like I've ever been to and it is an amazing experience. 10/10

Now, my husband (also an RMSEL graduate) and I are looking at the school for our kindergarten-aged child. While RMSEL has grown and changed over the years, I believe its core values remain the same. The key takeaways I received from my time there are life skills that have followed me into adulthood and served me well in my career--resiliency, problem-solving, and independence. The expeditions were life-changing in so many ways: they offered my first experiences with developing countries, and they required a level of self-discipline that shaped who I am today. We currently have friends whose children are in kindergarten at RMSEL, and we love hearing about their experiences. Small class sizes, meeting children where they are, and introducing expeditions at such a young age are key reasons we're excited to return as a family. As a teenager, RMSEL was a blessing to me, even when I didn't always see it that way. Returning as an adult, I could recognize how the expeditions build resilience--even when the students themselves don't yet realize it. This school pushes kids to step outside their comfort zones, and many won't appreciate the benefits until years later. The very things I resisted as a teen are now the things I credit most for my personal growth. If you're looking for a school that teaches more than academics--a place that nurtures real-world life skills that will serve your children well into adulthood--RMSEL is a truly special place.

A couple of things that I would call out. 1. The school itself is very cliquish and allows a "Mean Girls" environment to exist. This is very different than the kind and welcoming cultures we have experienced at other Montessori Schools. 2. Specialization between students is treated as a nuisance by the teachers. On multiple occasions we asked for our child to be challenged more academically after coming home every day in tears about being bored. In each instance the teachers made commitments but then failed to follow through. 3. For the last 4 weeks of Spanish class the teacher had them re watch the same Cinco De Mayo celebration again and again. 4. They used our emergency contact information to solicit money from friends and family. 5. Despite the items above and based in large part on assurances from teachers, we committed to another year at the school to avoid another transition for our child. Once we were locked into the pricey financial investment for the following year, the assurances fell through and the school refused to let use out of our contract despite a questionable ability to meet our child's needs. My advice to those who consider MSD would be to not let the tour fool you. If you are looking for education tailored to your child's needs in a warm environment, this is not the school for you. We are currently paying MSD tuition while sending our daughter to a public school. We get a specialized and tailored learning plan, a teacher that follows through on commitments and and a Spanish class that teaches Spanish. It is worth every penny.

I first met her in Los Angeles when she was teaching memory training to actors for her, "Off Book In Minutes," course. She helped me with auditions, coaching me with her method to help me memorize lines and most quickly get a feel for my character. She also taught acting as a teacher for Los Angeles Unified Arts Education Program for 10 years. I read her amazing book, "Love Remembers," about how she was in a car accident getting hit by a big rig truck and healed herself teaching memory to Alzheimer's and Dementia patients and they all got better together. I learned that practicing the memory system she taught me will grow new "brain sprouts' so that my mind will continue to get sharper and faster as I get older. I won't have to worry about those diseases I just mentioned because my brain will be so strong from practicing the memory system. She's a nice person too, very kind and cares about you. Check out her Mp3's on her website Brainsproutsmemory.com and her book Loveremembers.com. She's the real deal and can help you and your loved ones with any memory issues and brain function. The teacher turn over is very high and the school is academically mediocre. This is a Woke school. If you are OK with CRT, sexual ideology and having your kid and you as a parent singled out for not following the "trend" then it will be right for your family. Otherwise, look elsewhere. The lack of common sense is just absurd. As an example, in a subzero winter day, the kids were FORCED to eat OUTSIDE due to their COVID policy. The kids were freezing and when they tried to come back into the building to warm up, the doors were intentionally locked. When they found an open door, the teacher kicked them out. A complaint with the State of Colorado for child neglect and abuse was filed. I think Stanley used to be great but not anymore. I'm sure the recent positive reviews are from parents that fit the woke bill.

On October 21 we received an email from CoIS stating they were not going to refund our money and to contact their Board with any issues. We wrote an email to the Board stating we would like the refund that was promised to us, and indicated it did not make sense for us to pay $3,100 for four days of school. We have not heard a word from them. I do not recommend this school for your children, and do not trust the director and Board that are running it. I believe they took advantage of us and multiple other families that did not receive their refund.
