First time I've ridden across GWB on the upper level from the passenger seat... there are such gorgeous views!

This bridge is huge and amazing to see!! At the same time it's a chaotic mess! The traffic is crazy!! Bumper to Bumper, stop and go, horns beeping non stop! No one wants to let you in to get over at least that was my experience. With that being said. It's a beauty! And it's the connector to get to New England, you almost feel like your close especially for me since I was heading to Connecticuit from Philly. I felt like I was in New Jersey for forever. Crossing the George Washington bridge felt like relief! I look forward to seeing it again. I guess I'm torn lol!

The George Washington Bridge is a double-decker suspension bridge that crosses the Hudson River, connecting Manhattan, New York City, and Fort Lee, New Jersey. Completed in 1927 and opened in 1931, this historic bridge currently operates with 14 lanes, with 8 on the upper level and 6 on the lower level. The lower level opened in 1962. The bridge is 4,760 ft (1,450 m) long, 119 ft (36 m) wide, and 604 ft (184 m) high. Its imposing size and length, coupled with the towers at its entrance and exit, make it a striking sight. Its daily traffic volume makes it one of the busiest bridges in the world. I-95 passes through the bridge. Along with the Brooklyn Bridge, it is a symbol of New York City, frequently appearing in Hollywood films. It also has a reputation for being a popular destination for suicide attempts.

Good for bikes, a nightmare for cars, and mediocre for pedestrians. Good job on the new bike path on ramps that opened in 2023 but the NJ side ramp loop adds an extra half mile to your ride, design could have been so much more straight forward. The look out points on both sides are a beautiful place to get photos of Manhattan and the Hudson Valley. If you are driving, just take the tunnel.

    Grey June day!

The George Washington Bridge (GWB) is a popular travel throughway to and from New York to New Jersey. I am not exactly fond of this crossing because it is always busy with traffic. But then again, what is not busy with traffic in the NY Metropolitan area. What was George Washington thinking about when he ferried over evacuating Manhattan with his American forces. I know we need a bridge built so we can avoid traveling on these overcrowded boats. Well, they built it and are still overcrowded. From what I read, GWB is the world's only suspension bridge with fourteen vehicular lanes and still the world's busiest motor vehicle bridge crossing. Meanwhile, it is an old architecturally designed bridge that one day will be replaced with modern technology that requires less maintenance. I believe many will oppose it since it is a beautiful historical bridge structure.

Long wait to get in, this bridge better be amazing!

I've heard many great things about this bridge, so I came in with high hopes but an open mind. Cut to two hours later and I'm STILL waiting to get on the bridge. This bridge better be awesome! I've heard great things so I'm expecting amazing. More to come... The bridge is in sight! It's not that amazing actually, seems ok, pretty basic looking bridge tbh. We're on the bridge. There's 4 lines, but one of them's closed. I've been on bigger bridges before, but it's still ok. If you're looking for a great bridge that lives up to the hype I'd recommend the Golden Gate. Two stars

New York is made of islands and peninsulas. There are so many wonderful bridges of varying architecture. Besides the Hell Gate bridge, the George Washington bridge is my favorite. While the traffic can be atrocious, as with any large city, and many complain about the 16 dollar toll--the bridge itself is beautiful. It's even better now there is a clean, safe new walking and bike path connected to George Washington Bridge Park (free, completely fenced off from the traffic and river). It's an easy, level walk (though watch out for speeding bikers) with beautiful views of the palisades and river. Great opportunity for photos too. Also has a nice little overlook where you can learn the history of this architectural icon.

This massive, metallic marvel is magnificent! Yes, just imagine the work that went into the architectural structure of this miraculous modern day convenience. You may hear about the traffic, but hey, it's NYC, fugettaboutit We literally breezed across this expansive bridge, and while it was busy, the traffic flowed steadily. We were amazed at the relatively low volume of cars on this dual level, suspension wonder, which boasts the busiest bridge in the world! Driving over this bridge brought back memories of the old Erector Sets by the Gilbert Toy Company where you can build not only bridges, but other metal skeletons! Pretty cool construction! Yes, there's a toll, no duh! Again, it's NYC! But frankly, it's worth the moolah to be connecting boroughs and saving time! Thanks GW Bridge! It's not your fault you're so popular and you attract traffic. You're still an incredible invention! I won't be burning my bridges anytime soon! Be thankful you don't have to take a ferry over the friggin Hudson River! (Don't get me wrong, I love ferries, but I'm enraptured by this efficiently engineered silver mountain! You can hate on the traffic and bad drivers but I got nothin' but admiration for this Bridge! The bad drivers are your foes, but the bridge is your friend, supporting you and carrying you over troubled waters!)

    Jeannette L.

The GWB has amazing views, whether you are driving or are on foot. Drive on the upper deck at least once to check it out!

Entrance to the Northwalk, the GWB bike & foot path
    Chris L.

This is a review of the Northwalk, the foot and bike path on the north side of the upper level of the George Washington Bridge. The views are totally amazing and the infrastructure is immaculate, everything looks brand new. But only two stars for the experience because the bikers are such complete A$$HOLES! Cyclists rip through at 20 to 30 miles an hour dinging their damn bells, really I'm not kidding, and expect pedestrians to vanish, basically, to get out of the path. You're taking your life in your own hands here as a walker. If you absolutely insist on walking this bridge, you can park in nearby Fort Lee historic park for about $3 an hour.

So much traffic around this bridge...but it's New York. Lots of construction, this last time, the lower levels were all closed, had to use the upper levels. The George Washington Bridge is a double-decked suspension bridge spanning the Hudson River, connecting the New York City borough of Manhattan with the New Jersey borough of Fort Lee. The bridge is named after George Washington, the first president of our country. The George Washington Bridge is the world's busiest motor vehicle bridge. It is owned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, a bi-state government agency that operates infrastructure in the Port of New York and New Jersey. The George Washington Bridge is also informally known as the GW Bridge, the GWB, the GW, or the George, and was known as the Fort Lee Bridge or Hudson River Bridge during construction. The George Washington Bridge measures 4,760 feet (1,450 m) long and has a main span of 3,500 feet (1,100 m). It was the longest main bridge span in the world from its 1931 opening until the Golden Gate Bridge opened in 1937. Beautiful architecture of the towers, make this a nice landmark to get through.

I had seen a show recently in which paranormal investigators heard the footsteps of someone who said that he was Aaron Burr. We did not see or hear any ghosts, alas. But the very nice guide did say that she and other people who worked in the mansion had all experienced the presence of ...something. The rooms are lovely, beautifully furnished with period pieces. The octagon room is stunning, and the details of the restorations by Traci Telasco are interesting. Oddly, there weren't any wardrobes/armoires, or closets, that I could see. Aaron Burr and William both had large beds, while Eliza Jumel had a lit de repos--quite narrow, with a swan tester. The kitchen was disappointing. Just a giant fireplace with an oven, a huge kettle and other old pots, and a candle mold on the mantel. There was also an old table and benches, presumably for the servants to have their meals. The butler's pantry was not on the tour, because it is now a restroom. I don't know exactly what we expected, but a kitchen from Pompeii was far more impressive. It seems difficult to understand how the elaborate meals of the era could be produced with just a fireplace and an oven, although apparently the long-handled pans were held over the fire. It was a fun trip to the Heights on the M5 bus. I would go back in the Spring to see the Glade. And Sylvan Terrace was lovely!
