I own a 1995 Mustang GT, the last year of the ford 302 small block "Fox" chassis. Head gasket went out and with so few actual miles on the car I decided to perform a rebuild - myself. I shopped-around... without mentioning names there is a place in north-west Berkeley that seemed competent - for sure... there was also a popular place in San Pablo (I was told by several people to not bother with the places in Oakland - one of them did not even return my call). Ultimately I chose George Beavis after a quick interview / visit. They have been in the business for a while and their shop is very, very well equipped, large (and secure). I paid $1800 for the heads and cylinders to be inspected / resurfaced; rings, items that touch the crank including the journal bearings. Flywheel resurfaced, and the major-spinners balanced. The work was done late 2018...1000 miles later the car is in great shape, no leaks and I guess I need to thank George and Jeff for their on-time and professional services. I have had a couple jobs done here. These guys know their trade inside and out! They got the work done much faster than expected (same day more than once), and the work came out beautiful. The price was extremely fair for what was done. I've usually seen Jeff when I get work done, and he is a pleasant person to talk shop with. This place should be called Beavis and Butthead machine shop. For one they are assholes with an extremely standoffish attitude, not what you would expect from a service based business that relies on customers spending their money to stay afloat. Furthermore they are never open when they say they should be open. Case in point: I stopped by while grabbing coffee with my wife to ask if they had a price list for basic services and I got this attitude from butthead and sons like it was the dumbest question anyone has ever asked them. Guy keeps repeatedly telling me to bring my crank shaft in for measurements but he obviously wasn't listening to me because I said I wanted the block bored as well. Then he tells me bring my stuff in and they will take a look at it. So I head home and load the block, crankshaft, pistons and rods, and my head into the truck of my wife's Corolla and head back over there an hour after talking to them. Guess what? They are already closed up tight for the day and it was 11am, they are supposedly open until 1pm Saturday's. So with that said, I took my stuff to TEM Performance in Napa (which was an awesome experience by the way) and got a quality job done with great attitude and communication from Rich at TEM... AND HE HAD A PRICE LIST, heaven forbid!!!. So today I was assembling my intake and I broke a bolt off in the intake manifold (and I figured it could use a good surfacing as well)so in a pinch I said what the heck I'll give George Beavis another shot at some of my hard earned money since TEM won't be open until Monday and I wanted to get this thing finished this weekend. I roll over there at 10:30am and again these clowns are not open for business. So I came to Yelp to let them know I'll never give them a penny EVER they have lost me even for emergency use. I'd urge others to shy away from this extremely rude and seemingly incompetent business as well. read more
