It stocks 200 types of speciality cheese, hampers and cheese wedding cakes; local, British and Continental cheese. I mean how good is that. Cheese tastic goodness and so much of it. You best get Daisy eating more cud, we're going to need the milk. Now I pride myself on knowing my fromage from the babybels but if you don't fear not. The people who work there all know their stuff and are really approachable. I wonder if there is such a position as a cheese guru and if so how can I apply. I left armed with the smelliest stilton ever. The more mould the better but only on my cheese not in general everyday life. It would also be rude not to try a nice slab of Wensleydale too. But this is quickly demolished by the fact that the shop is very cramped to the point where i nearly fell over a basket. The staff ask you what you want straight away too, which i don't like, as i like to take my time and have a good look through everything and not feel harrassed. I love cheese, but i find it rather expensive to be honest for what you get as well - i got some sheeps milk wenslydale and it came to about £7 for my average sized hunk. It was nice, but for £7 i expect it to blow my socks off which it didn't. I've paid less for other, rarer cheeses at newer deli's in Harrogate - where i've been allowed to taste them first before buying as well - and been blown away by what i got. Its an ok shop, but i'm afraid that there are better contenders out there now to be honest.

I'm guessing Daniel Seymore is renting the shop off Malcom, but it's no bad thing. 3 stores specialising in meat might have been too much, especially in a place littered with raw meat. Known as the grocery store on Butchers Row, Daniel Seymore sells the other stuff. From drinks, including milk, to eggs, to cheese. It's a nice little shop that doesn't focus on any one thing. Any shop that has a sign that reads 'Any size block of cheddar for £1.50' cannot be a bad place. They prices are unbeatable, and it feels like a quality shop, rather than a load of stuff that's been thrown together. To hold on to the Malcom Michael crown, I suppose it would have to be worth it!

Of the many eateries my husband I tried during a two-week trip to England, The Cheese Society stands out as one of the best. Tucked at the bottom of Steep Hill in Lincoln, it's part cheese shop, part cafe, fully lovely. I had no trouble finding a seat at a communal-sized table in the middle of the store on a weekday for lunch. The cheese-monger working behind the counter came by several times while I was enjoying my meal to ask if he could "ply me with cheese" - the answer was always, without thought, "yes!". He was so kind and incredibly knowledgeable about cheese. The menu is fairly small and - you guessed it - completely centered around cheese and all its glory. I had a cheddar & herb scone which I won't stop dreaming of any time soon, which was served with a slice of Godminster cheddar and butter on the side. I have since had Godminster flown across the ocean to my front door. Being a cheese glutton, I also ordered the Lincolnshire Rarebit, their spin on Welsh rarebit. It was also utter perfection. I washed it all down with a refreshing bottle of a crisp, dry local hard cider. Take me back!

Well, in one word, yes. It is quite likely, that you will have to wait, but these guys are aware of their popularity, and they have comfy seats where you can wait, and have a glass of wine if you fancy. Varied menu, with gluten free options, though the gluten free bread was a but disappointingly cake-y. I've been here three? times now, and I've never been disappointed, though with that much cheese, do be fully prepared for a food coma, and maybe gout if you get addicted and come here everyday. The shop is also great, we've had many a floor picnic which we have supplied from here, as it's far more polite to collapse with a food baby in private!

The inside is small, no more than 8 tables - but I liked it. Warm, cosy and cute. They offer a fantastic little menu consisting of soups, sandwiches, salads and some special seasonal dishes - but we opted for some coffees instead, which were lovely. But this place is more than a cafe, The Cheese Yard also sells artisan cheeses that they buy from cheese makers all over then world, as well as and boutique wines, beers and ciders too. You can order a fantastic range of these cheeses to try with some lovely homemade chutneys and crackers. Alternatively, customers were popping in to buy selections of their favourite cheeses to take home. It really is a lovely place.

It's not comprehensive but the stock is thoughtfully chosen and is particularly recommended if you are looking for something out of the ordinary and a cut above the usual supermarket fare. There are also some speciality beers and a good range of spirits, including some less well-known single malt whiskies. The food is very good and covers a wide range of cheeses, meats, condiments, preserves and other speciality foods. I can recommend the Craster kippers and the haggis is very good also. The service is excellent, being friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

During my student days, we held many a Hyde Park barbecue and this was the ideal place to stock up on goodies. They sell kits in the more barbecue appropriate Summer months, comprising of already prepared items to place immediately on the grill. All year round, Malcolm Michaels sell packs of meat in £5, £10, £15, £20 and £30 denominations. They include sausages, pork, spare ribs, chops, chicken legs, mince and liver in increasing quantities. I have become quite the pro at buying one on a Monday and getting a couple of weeks worth of meals from it. It is all about economising the price without comprising on flavour. Good value for nice cuts of meat, whilst being served with friendly banter. Done.

Sticky Toffee Heaven, a cheese that resembles a fudge. Cranberry, Orange & Cointreau Cheshire, one that definitely has apple and cinnamon, all right in time for Christmas. Every market I got to lately, I see these cheerful cheeses, and I'm never disappointed. These guys are the mad scientists of cheese. They'll put things you'd never expect in your fromage, and it tastes all the better for it. I've purchased Raj, Sticky Toffee and Black Bob, I've tried Jerk and all the Christmassy ones, and nothing disappoints. I bumped into these lot not only at the Manchester Christmas Markets but also during a recent trip to Buxton where they were holding a Winter Wonderland market, and our friend's post office shop near that. But if you can't find it at any stalls, just order it from their online shop! I'm sure some lucky person will love to find it in their Christmas hamper, or if not, just treat yo' self and gobble it all up. It'll be pricier than your average cheese simply because of its nature, and this isn't mass produced supermarket stuff. It's something you buy to spoil someone, and the folks at the stalls will always give you great suggestions regarding what to eat them with. This cheese will put a grin on your face, that's for sure. And their slogan reads along the same lines too!
