I ended up having complications but they were nothing that could have been predicted nor prevented by the doctor nor the staff. I am an especially hard stick when it comes to my IV lately and am waiting on a port. The anesthesiologist, Dr. Chen, was able to assist with an IV in my wrist. It was painful yet very affective and got the job done! Dr. Saad, the GI specialist performing my EGD, was not very friendly nor did he explain the results. Instead I vaguely remember him giving the info to the nurse to give to me when I woke up so he could leave. I remember waking up and wanting to be like, "It's okay to talk to me. I'm not scary. I'm just a person too." But he still did a great job and I appreciate his work!

I received tremendous care and guidance by first-rate therapists who sincerely cared about my recovery and worked with me to accomplish all my/their goals. My surgeon moved to Santa Fe and another hospital system but I'm planning on having him perform my otherTKR in early 2024. I'll be returning to Southern for my PT, no doubt about it! And I'm headed back to Southern shortly for neurological PT to help with my neuropathy-causing falls. I'm confidant I'll receive the same exemplary clinical care. His communication skills lacked effective translation of test results. If I asked questions about possible treatments, he would become defensive and say this is the way he has always done it. He spent more time on the computer entering data, then examining or talking with me. I got the impression, that he didn't have the time or will to explain himself comprehensively about his thoughts or the test results.

It felt like I was inconveniencing her just by asking questions and trying to get information. When I explained that I had previously been seen at Presbyterian and was simply looking for a new doctor because mine had left, she told me that no doctor there would see me for a year even though I'm currently having medical issues. She repeatedly said it was their policy and that it was "ironclad," but wouldn't provide any further explanation. The interaction was extremely dismissive and unprofessional. Honestly, I'm almost relieved I didn't end up going there if this is how potential patients are treated.
