Luckily, this spot was just a few minutes away from the metro station, making it hassle free. For nearly 5 hours of storage, the cost to leave two bags and umbrellas was around $15. We brought our bags back here on the final day of our trip so that we could walk around before the flight. Great service, will definitely use again.

My roomette had a bed that would fold down from the upper part of the cabin and included an en suite toilet. Showers were available one car down, and we would have our meals in the dining room as part of the fare. Because I travel solo, I asked Jessica if she would go the extra mile and bring my dinner and the next day's breakfast to my cabin - and happily, she agreed. For agreeing, I tipped her $20 and tipped $20 for dinner and again for breakfast; and I tipped her $40 upon departing in Jasper. Jessica was thoughtful, helpful, and knew how our trip would proceed. Note that nothing in the rail's documentation suggested that meal service to our cabin was a part of the deal - I'm grateful for Jessica's willingness to spare me from having to take my meals with others. Upon boarding, I explored the various cars of the train: there was a meet-and-greet reception with small bites and prosecco, the scenic view from the dome cars were exactly as beautiful as advertised, and we made the trip right on schedule. I would reiterate what Jessica told all of us in the cars she was responsible for: if one person introduced waste into the toilets that clogged the works, all our toilets would be clogged. That happened on the morning of my departure, but fortunately there were toilets in the common areas of the train cars that continued to operate despite the blockage.

The…read morefirst time I visited Montréal, I stayed at one of Delta's properties, your usual corporate/salaryman hotel. Needless to say, it was underwhelming. On the other hand, Anne Ma Soeur Anne has done all the things right. For example, at the Big Corporate Hotel™, there was no free Wifi access and even worse, not even a fridge. Little Hotel That Could™ had both. Anne Ma Soeur Anne is nothing fancy but all I'm looking for in a hotel is a clean place to hang out and watch some television (or surf the internet) while I relax from a long day of sightseeing. While it's not fancy, that doesn't mean that it doesn't have its charms. The daily croissants left at the door are cute and if you have a room that's facing away from St-Denis, you really have no idea that on the other side of the hotel is one of Montréal's busiest streets. My favourite thing about this place is its incredible location. It's within walking distance to many of the areas of Montréal I usually hang out in (Plateau, Mile End, etc) and it's close to a ton of great restaurants and shopping along both St-Denis and The Main. Not to mention that La Banquise is a very short walk away for that drunken three in the morning Poutine snack. Highly, highly recommended and a great value for a hotel. Just don't expect a flat screen HDTV, room service and an in hotel spa treatment centre and you'll be fine.

Let's start with cleanliness. The room is outdated, beat up, and was bordering on filthy. See the attached pics featuring the desk chair. I happened to be in a street facing room so there is the occasional bit of noise, but that wasn't a problem. Then there's the temperature. In one of the hottest weeks Montréal has seen so far this summer, my air conditioning unit was practically non-functional. The temperature in my room regularly topped out at 26 degrees. The young man at the front desk was happy to come reset the unit (I want to add here that the lobby air conditioning also seemed to be non-functional, horrible for the staff) and it briefly cooled down to a to a tolerable 22. Same song and dance the next day, where I had to go buy a fan from Best Buy in an attempt to get more than a few hours of decent sleep. No one ever followed up with me to see if things were improved, so I had to approach the front desk again. The same nice young gentleman came to my room, fiddled with the display for the AC for a few minutes, and I had a blissful night at 21.5 degrees. One night. I'm currently on night 6 (thank god, the last one) of my stay and it's 26 degrees. Never was I offered a different room, I had to ask (and none were available), never did they try to get a repairman into the room, nothing. It's made my stay here horrible. The hotel is located in a dodgy part of Rue Saint-Catherine. Red lights district with a visible unhoused population, and as a solo female traveler I experienced some harassment coming to and leaving from the hotel. I wouldn't feel safe being out after dark here. During the day it's relatively convenient to metro lines and a reasonable walk from local attractions. For a chain, I expect better. The staff was nice enough but there are no standards. Guests bang around at all hours of the night and you can feel vibrations through the walls. The AC panel blazes a bright blue light into the room all night, making it impossible to sleep unless you're knocked out or wear an eye mask. The hotel itself is worn and dingy. I didn't even try the breakfast for fear of wasting a vacation day on the toilet. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

I tried to call them before arriving, but no one answered the phone. That was annoying because we didn't know where to park. When we arrived, the front desk couldn't find our reservations. After about 20-25 mins, they finally agreed to give us the two rooms we paid in advance for. I must say, everyone was very pleasant so I wasn't too annoyed. Their parking lot is located across the street at another hotel they own. There are no elevators or escalators to get out of the garage. I suggest taking all luggage out before you park and carrying it to the lobby if you're staying at this property. The parking spots are awkward (hopefully they aren't crowded) because it's tough to park in their tiny spots. Navigating through their parking lot to find a way to their lobby took us a few minutes but we managed (just go through the red doors until you find a staircase to the outside). However, at least their parking lot is secure and requires a key to access. Despite all the confusion we had checking in, once we got into our rooms I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is quiet, the rooms are clean. The rooms are equipped with a microwave, fridge, coffee machine, blow dryer, and iron. They also have a TV and free WiFi. Plenty of outlets near the bed. Beds are a bit too soft for my liking, but at least they're clean and I actually slept like a baby. It's quiet and warm. Totally worth every penny. For the price, you can't beat it. Would definitely stay here again! Would definitely recommend if on a budget.
