Her paralegal is on top of things and always gave me advanced notice and reminders of deadlines and other events. Meredith is also very straight to the point. She would tell me things like "you can be upset about this the rest of today. Then you need to get it together" and my favorite "stop borrowing trouble." Sometimes I didn't want to do what she told me, but I did anyway, because I'm paying for her advice. A year later, I'm so happy I listened to her! She told me to give it a year and I would feel like a different person, and I do. I feel like the person I used to be, with my character and values intact.

I retained her back in 2015 for about a year of hearings. The best experience, expertise, and…read morereturn on investment I had while I was dealing with a custody case. Let's begin with the cost. First, lawyers are not cheap, it is an investment. I won't give numbers but Erika was very reasonable compared to the competition and the return on investment was well worth the cost. I had fired my previous firm because the other firm was more interested in fleecing than helping. Erika is genuine and really cares. Let's talk results. Okay, if you think about "winning" in a family court case, that might be the wrong outlook. The courts are there for the interests of the children, not your interests or personal vendettas. So with that said, being realistic is very important, and compromising will lead to greater results in both the wallet, kids life, and overall long term satisfaction. Brian was her paralegal at the time and he is simply amazing, super organized, professional, and just a darn good worker. He might come off with high energy, but he is just trying to help you get everything prepared. If you, as the customer, do not come prepared, don't expect magic from crap for information you might have provided. Have your stuff together and do EVERYTHING Brian tells you. You will be more successful! Overall, Erika and Brian were amazing.

I retained the Law Office of Darlene Gomez to represent me in my custody case. Throughout the…read moreentire period of my representation, I experienced prolonged periods of poor communication and a lack of timely case updates. There were periods of weeks to months during which I received no communication regarding my case. In most instances, I had to initiate contact myself to obtain updates or information. As a result, I spent nearly a year uncertain about the status of my case. Before my custody case was resolved, my attorney withdrew from representing me, and I completed the remainder of the case pro se. Representing myself in a family law matter added significant stress during an already demanding period while I was preparing my medical school application. After my case concluded, I reviewed publicly available client reviews and saw that other clients had described experiences similar to my own. I wish I had seen those reviews before deciding to retain the firm. Based on my experience, I would not retain the Law Office of Darlene Gomez again and cannot recommend the firm to others seeking family law representation.

In my experience, when my case became most critical, I experienced conflict with my own attorney and was then left without representation at a crucial stage. I am still dealing with the consequences of that today. His withdrawal left me at a serious disadvantage in my case and, in my view, worked to the benefit of the opposing party rather than my own. I was left feeling unsupported and deeply disappointed. I also think it is important for prospective clients to understand that many of the older 5-star reviews appear to date back to the period when the firm operated as Cortez & Hoskovec, before Ms. Cortez retired. My own experience changed significantly after that transition. Around the same time the firm became Sandia Family Law, my relationship with Mr. Hoskovec became increasingly contentious, and he eventually withdrew from representing me during a critical stage of my case. Based on my experience, I would not recommend William Hoskovec or Sandia Family Law.
