What separates Gentlemans Den from many other coastal barbers is that many of them nearby are catering specifically to the military crowd needing high and tights for weekly inspection. Having grown up in Oceanside I've seen it first hand, the fear of getting yelled at for missing inspection from not getting a haircut has taken all the honor in caring for your haircuts away. When you stop looking at it like a treat, something that betters you, and as a chore is when we the public can also tell. Reserved an appointment online and where able to snag a spot even though they were really booked. My fiancé got his haircut and the barber did a really nice job. The interior of the place looks really cool, it's supposed to speak to the inner male but I liked waiting in there because it kinda reminded me of a cabin. Deva is worth the 30+ minute drive I make up to Oceanside every time! I have been Deva's customer since when he worked in La Mesa. I have a more consistent request for my hairstyle now, but for the entirety of 2017 Deva handled my everchanging requests like a pro. Sometimes he'd say, "Honestly, it won't suit you, let's try this instead", other times it was "Okay... let's try it". Either way it's comforting to have an honest hairdresser who can see your intentions before they begin cutting irreplaceable hair off your head. Deva is a great guy. I don't settle for mediocrity when it comes to choosing my hairdresser. We found Mike!!! My son had been going to Mike for about 3 years at a different barbershop.... we were lost when we found out he left ...my son is on the spectrum and is very high functioning...meaning no one can really notice he has autism...( I mention this to say that Mike is the ONLY one he really feels comfortable with to cut his hair)... I'm not sure what all the excitement is about. We've been here a few times (for my son and my husband), and none of the haircuts were what we'd asked for (neither length nor style). That's the ultimate measurement, in my opinion. They were good quality haircuts, if you set aside what we asked for and what we wanted. The interior is rustic. The attitude of the hair stylists was cold; definitely not inviting nor endearing. We gave it a few tries, based off of recommendations from some friends, but we won't be back. read more

Took my two boys to get their hair cut- ages 6 and 9. They have pretty curly hair so I was specific with the style that they wanted. He completely disregarded our request for the older boy- and when my son said something he told him to be quiet and sit still. That was the only time the hairstylist spoke directly to my kids, he didn't acknowledge them or make small talk. He was completely silent or spoke to the barber next to him. I've had many different haircut experiences throughout my lifetime (duh), and until coming to the Gentlemen's Den Barbershop, I always considered my trips to the barber to be a mundane routine that I'd just as easily skip if I could. Damn follicles and their insistence with growing all the time! Anyway, by cousin Ronnie told me about Gentlemen's Den and so I thought I'd give it a try. I showed up right on time and Mikey was there waiting for me. The place has 4 barber chairs, a few seats to wait for your cut, awesome stuff on the walls, cold beers, and great tunes.
