Not a pleasant interaction with Chuck…read more I was running 5 minutes late for my appointment, so I called ahead since I haven't been here before to make sure I wouldn't lose the reservation. Another barber said "sounds good," so I assumed I was good. Wrong. When I arrived, Chuck asked "Are you Kory?" I said "Yeah, Chuck? Nice to meet you," and reached out to shake his hand. He ignored my handshake and ranted about being the owner and he doesn't take late arrivals. Which is fair, it's his business and he can have whatever policy he wants. But the frustrating part is that I had just called ahead and was told it was fine. So I started to leave while explaining that I called ahead. He then tried to get me to stay and called another barber to cut my hair instead of him. He walked outside while I was standing there confused. I sat down for about 30 seconds, ran the whole scenario through my head and got up and left. A few minutes later the other barber called me asking if I was still coming for the cut and asked what happened. I told him not to worry about it. If the policy is no late arrivals, that's totally fair, just make sure everyone working there is on the same page when customers call ahead. The whole interaction was unnecessarily dramatic.

They are the best barbers I have ever used, by far. They are very, very reasonable even though I would gladly double it, which at times I have done. They dont have a website or take reservations over the phone., very old school, and no credit cards. There seems to be a confusion with their hours. I don't have to go to Supercuts anymore and sadly learn that the "stylist" who did a half decent job cutting my hair the last time got canned, ran off to Vegas to become a dancer, or got a higher paying job at Taco Bell. Joe's has been in this same storefront near 95th and Kedzie since 1957 or so, and it doesn't look like it's changed much. So the place is the totally old school, and that's a very good thing. You get all the colorful regulars that you'd expect to find at the barber shop. The place is always crowded, which is a testament to the quality of the haircuts and neighborhood barber shop experience it offers. True barber shops like this have become very rare in the modern hair styling world, and I'm glad I found one. Overall, a great place. Here's to it being around for another 50 years!

I needed to get "cleaned up" for a funeral and my usual barber wasn't available. Went online and…read moresaw this location and was able to book a hair and beard trim appointment during my lunch break. Not knowing what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised. The barbers were dressed professionally and very friendly. While the decor was what I would expect in a barber shop, I think the antique/classic barber chairs was a sign that this wasn't just another barbershop. You don't have those unless you love your profession. I was assigned to Chase, who cut his lunch break short even though I was the one who was 15 minutes early. I explained how I would like my hair and beard trimmed, and he went to work. He took his time and recommended several style changes for my approval before trimming. I'm not one for small talk during a haircut, but the barbers working that day were having an open conversation and I felt relaxed enough to even join the conversation, which is totally not me. But it definitely helped the time pass quickly and made the experience more enjoyable. Once done, Chase spun me around for a view in the mirror, and I thought he did a fantastic job. But the real approval would be made by my wife, who was waiting in the car. She liked it so much, she suggested that I change my barber. So, while it wasn't my intention, looks like Chase will have a new client. The prices here are a little higher than what I usually pay, but with the quality of work, it's well worth the price. It was really refreshing to find a barbershop that was open not to just cut hair, but to find people who understand and enjoy their craft.
