I really like the artsy, industrial feeling of this building and this business. LeJoy is a great massage therapist and fun to chat with. I am also a fan of the hand-made skin products available here. I first found Le Joy through a Groupon or Living Social deal (I can't remember anymore) for infrared body wraps. I immediately found her manner personable, calm and relaxing. She was very knowledgeable about the benefits of the body wraps and, though the last few minutes of the body wrap were challenging due to the heat, her nurturing manner and thoughtfulness made it bearable and worthwhile. The body wraps were great for my joint pain and I loved the results for firming my body. Once I'd used up my initial deal, I decided to purchase another package. Bought a Groupon for a facial/massage at this salon. The phone goes straight to voicemail AND you cannot leave a voicemail because the mailbox is full! So I scheduled online. Well the only dates they had were MONTHS away which was after the Groupon expired. I contacted Groupon and they refunded the amount back to me. This place should get zero stars. I bought a package of four 1-hour massages. First visit, the massager had to leave to pick up her kid from school. I rebooked (why I don't know) Next time, she wasn't there.... Called rescheduled and guess what 3rd time, she was sick. The owner blamed employee, wouldn't take any responsibility because she "rents from me"..... duh!!! You are the boss, LeJoy. Wonderful place for massages! LeJoy is an amazing masseuse and very relaxing. We chat during my massage and this usually keeps me from focusing on how tense my muscles are. My back is this ball of stress after hours of of studying, but I always feel relaxed after a massage with LeJoy. She likes to limit the pressure she uses so that you aren't incredibly sore. Most of us don't get massages as often as we should and it helps to let the massage feel good when your kinks aren't being beaten out of you. I really love this place. And they have student specials! Package of four massages for $120 and first time massages are $35. I know a good deal when I see it. read more

I had a massage here last year, and I found it easy to schedule and didn't have any reschedule problems. LeJoy did a great relaxing massage and even offered to teach an infant massage session at a low-income new-mothers support group that I'm involved with! (I haven't taken her up on the offer yet, but I definitely intend to) Don't be deterred by the one bad review posted here, you should read the filtered reviews - I don't know why yelp has filtered so many (like 21!) good reviews and those 5 star reviews aren't averaging into her rating. I also had issues with the same therapist. She cancelled on me 4 times. Once I made LeJoy aware of the situation she apologized for the inconvenience and quickly remedied the situation. My mom bought me a voucher from Living Social for Christmas but I wasn't able to get in until now (I go to school out-of-state). Le Joy still let me use the voucher even though it had expired a few months ago, which was great. The voucher was for a facial with targeted massage. I have horrible hormonal acne and had a lovely breakout yesterday, but after a pleasant hour-long session, my skin was noticeably less inflamed. Le Joy is also a great storyteller if you're like me and feel uncomfortable laying in silence while someone massages a cocktail of products onto your face. I really enjoyed my time there and hope to come by when I'm in town again. Maybe I'll try a back massage next time! read more

I purchased a Groupon last year in August and have been unable to successfully book my appointment until now. At first the site was not working (or it was blocked from my workplace). Then I could not reach anyone in the office by phone. Typically, I go to Sabai (they are awesome by the way), but wanted to try different Groupons to see what else is out there. LeJoy did finally contact me, but by that time earlier this year, I had already booked a couple of other spas. Well, now my Groupon will expire as of August 4th and my appointment is booked for August 3rd because there are no dates on the website open until then. I plan on writing my review up immediately after my appointment. Many of my Groupons have ended in amazing experiences, but this one I am scared for due to the negative reviews I have read over the year and the experience I have already had just in trying to book. There were only a few good things about this place.... One good thing was the online booking was super convenient and easy. I loved that. And the second good thing, the building that it's in is super cool and swanky. The office/spa itself was terrible. You walk in to what looks more like a storage closet than a reception area. The reception "desk" was a teeny table with a computer screen on it and a girl lounging in a chair beside it. When I walked in, the massage therapist and the receptionist were shocked to see someone walk in. She had me sit down at the computer and fill out the necessary paperwork, and when she got up I noticed she not only didn't have shoes on but was walking around barefoot. The attire of the two people there was incredibly unprofessional. I'm not saying that they have to wear business clothes or a white coat, but jean shorts and a worn-out t-shirt are a little too casual. After I filled out the paperwork, I noticed that the washer and dryer were running, which was right in this reception area and was fairly loud. By the time the massage therapist was ready to take me back, this receptionist came walking up the hallway with bags of laundry that appeared to be her personal laundry, saying "I just love laundry day." The massage was fine. Nothing to write home about. After telling him that I had back pain, there really wasn't a lot of massage done on my back, which was incredibly disappointing. And after trying to persuade me twice that I should buy the package of four massages, trying to politely decline, I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Glad this was just a groupon and I didn't pay full price for this. I am extremely disappointed in the services I received compared to other salons. read more

I found this place on Groupon and thought I should give it a try and I bought a 90 minute massage for my husband's birthday this past weekend and it was schedule a month before. The services was just terrible. They called me one hour before the massage was schedule and made an awful excuse and said they won't be able to give my husband the massage. Not only that but I was throwing him a surprise party after the massage but since he didn't get the massage he was schedule to have I had to find something else for my husband to do away from home for 2 hours. The lady said they would called me back on Monday and will give me a discount . It is Tuesday now and they have not call back, I called them but no one will answer. Now I am on the phone with Groupon. Literally waiting for someone to answer so I can get my money back. I have been waiting for 30 minutes and still waitting. POOR POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE and totally unprofessional!!! If I have known that it'd caused me that much trouble I will of never even look at this site. Don't let them fool you! read more

I also purchased a 4 pack of massages from groupon. I did receive 2 massages, but I've also had a total of 3 cancellations due to illness on very short notice (a wide range of different issues, so the 'renter' doesn't appear to have a chronic condition). It's difficult to reschedule~ it has to be done online and currently there are no openings for groupon deal for over a month. Futher, this business did redeem the groupon certificate, yet only provided half of the contracted services. I contacted groupon last week about this issue, but they still haven't gotten back to me. It appears that I too will have eat this one. If you see this business offering a groupon deal, think twice about purchasing it!!! read more

Initially, the groupon package brought me to this business. When I checked the online booking system, it looked like I wouldn't be getting in for months. So I sent an email to LeJoy, the owner, and she promptly called me and worked me into her schedule the next week. The massages have been very relaxing. When I've gone in with a particular ache, she gives extra attention to that area. I have been to her about 10 times and will be going for a very long time. She also makes and sells products (I especially love the lip balm) but she has never been pushy. They are simply all displayed. Bottom line: LeJoy is a great massage therapist and if you leave dissatisfied, it is not because LeJoy did not try as hard as she could to make you happy. She is very accommodating, maybe too much so, but that's probably not the worst flaw to have in her line of work. LeJoy is really exceptional and provides a great experience. read more

LeJoy is awesome! I first found this place a few years back from a daily deal and have been going ever since. Love the new location - cool building and vibe (they were doing roof repairs which were a bit distracting - but that will be done soon). LeJoy knows massage as well as a plethora of other things - sometimes I am in the mood to talk and sometimes not, she adjusts to whatever you need. A nice little placed tucked away in Northeast. Although I was running a little late, Jada did not rush our appointment at all. She must have scheduled a good amount of time after our session to check-in with me and go over areas she wanted to focus on for our future sessions. The massage was divine, a great balance between deep but relaxing pressure. I walked away feeling rejuvenated and pleased with the whole interaction. I give this place a zero rating! Like a previous reviewer I purchased a Groupon and tried calling three times and sent two emails with no response. My only other choice was to sign up with my email address to book an appointment through their website. After scheduling an appointment for me and my wife a couple days later someone contacted me via email stating that my appointments had been changed. After a couple email exchanges expressing my disappointment she replied that she is simply a subcontractor helping out Gentle Illumination on a volunteer basis. So basically since they're overwhelmed with business from Groupon they outsource massages to non-licensed massage therapists. She said the owner would contact Groupon to get me a refund and after a month with no refund, I contacted Groupon and they immediately refunded my money. I don't want any one else to make the same mistake. Please stay far away from this place. Horrible service and customer service. read more
