They didn't tell me that they weren't contracted with my ins anthem... not when I scheduled and not for the 2 visits I had there. They just stuck me with a $500 bill. I have been a patient with this office for over 10 years. Always paid my invoices in full. My last office visit with them was in March 2025 for my annual cleaning. When I checked out with them on that day I was advised by the billing clerk that my cleaning was covered 100 percent. No payment was due they advised. My follow up appointment was set for September 11, 2025. Recently, I received a letter from the Thomas Agency which is a collection agency indicating that I owed $35 to Gentle Dental and this amount was referred to them to collect. Of note, I had never received a bill nor a call from Gentle Dental advising me that I owed their office $35. This bill was sent to a collection agency for a balance that I was never notified about. This is questionable business practice in my view. Having said that, I went in person to Gentle Dental's office on September 3, 2025 to happily pay whatever they claimed may have been due on my part. I spoke to a female named Sabrina and explained why I was there. She refused to accept payment from me and instructed me to pay only through the collection agency. Furthermore, she also informed me that I was dismissed from their office and that I will need to find another dental provider. When I asked her why would you send this matter directly to a collection agency rather than sending me a bill directly or even a call from them advising me of a balance she had no response or reason. I believe this conduct is unprofessional and not in the best interests of patient care. At no time was I given an opportunity to resolve the balance directly with their office before being sent to collections. I have filed a complaint with the Maine Dental Board in regard to their business practices. This is extremely unprofessional in my opinion. Why would you send a long term patient to collections for $35 without reaching out to the patient first? If this is how they treat a long term patient like myself, think twice about this office for your dental needs! In regard to the care they provided to me they are just medicore. Nothing spectacular. I have observed that the Dentists don't stay long term nor do the front desk area. Fortunately, I never needed extensive dental work. Can only imagine the problems that could have came if I did! I am posting a review of Gentle Dental in Biddeford. I have been going there for many years, since they only had an office in Saco. And before that, I went to the Saco location before Dr. Verrier retired. At first, I was reluctant to continue with Gentle Dental, as I really loved Dr. Verrier and his practice. However, my reluctance was eased when I continued to be a patient with Gentle Dental. Angela has been great, and Dr. Henry is so nice. Five stars for Gentle Dental Biddeford !!!! Worst dentist's office ever! After moving to Maine I contacted Gentle Dental as my insurance company at the time's web site said that they were in network. I called Gentle Dental and they confirmed that they were in network. I went for a cleaning and a filling on two separate dates in Decemember of '22. After the cleaning the person at the front desk told me that there was no charge for the routine cleaning as they are in network and that the fillings would cost $150. On May 5, 2023, I recieved a bill from Gentle Dental for over $1,000. I called and spoke with Gentle Dental's manager who informed me that the person that I spoke with "no longer works here for obvious reasons." Despite, the manager refused to "make it right." It should be noted that while the dental work took place in December, the insurance company was not beilled until April. When asked to make it right the manager refused and backed down from her previous statement and all of a sudden claimed that she did not know who I spoke with. I RARELY IF EVER WRITE NEGATIVE REVIEWS. I have been a patient here for over a year and this office makes me LOVE going to the dentist! Every single person I've interacted with over the phone or in person is so nice and makes you feel comfortable and welcome. I have told all my friends and family about my great experience here and recommend it to anyone. Liz was my dental hygienist today and she is so personable and friendly. Dr. La is always very nice as well. They always remember me when I come in and the customer service has just been amazing since day one, SO THANK YOU!! I really enjoy my visits here. :) read more

This is a ripoff office! Not having been to a dentist in quite awhile and not knowing any local dentists, I went to Gentle Dental. My health insurance covers an annual check up, normal X-rays and cleaning. My first complaint is, without consulting me or explaining they were doing more extensive procedures than were covered, I was surprised when I was billed another $130. However the worst thing was they gave me a treatment plan of $6,200! After recovering from shock, I decided to go to another nearby dental office (free X-rays and exam for new patients) where I was given an estimate for the exact same treatment plan for 1/3 the costs of Gentle Dental plus financing options. Consumer Beware. I had just found out this business has charged us for missing 3 "scheduled" appointments. My wife and I never made said appointments, infact, on the dates they said we "missed", We were not in the state of Maine at all, because we had moved 900 Miles away to North Carolina. Why would we continue to make appointments when we live in another state now??? When I asked to them if they would wave the charges, they said no. Very shady billing practices. Consumer beware. The lone dentist operating out of this office, Dr. Grace La, recommended unnecessary procedures, i.e. getting braces on my near-perfect teeth. I was there to get a routine cleaning. When I scheduled the appointment (my initial) the office said they would call me ahead of time to remind me. They didn't and as a result, I was not aware the practice had moved to Biddeford. When I finally arrived, the dental hygenist blamed me for not giving them the right phone number (I did) and then told me she didn't have time to perform the routine cleaning, since they had to do x-rays and I had to schedule another appointment for the cleaning. I informed her I lived 45 minutes away and had to hire a babysitter for this appointment and she said she couldn't assist me. In addition to the dentist recommending completely unnecessary and costly procedures, the office was ostentatious with a gargantuan fish tank in the huge waiting room and two flat screen TVs in my exam room and with more exam rooms than I could count. I make it a point to support local and women-run businesses and I was horribly disappointed. read more
