Most of the…read morestaff are genuinely kind and caring -- they take time to get to know the residents and make sure they feel comfortable and cared for. You can really tell they love what they do. I visit on a daily basis and have great interactions with the team. The building is older but it is maintained. The rooms are small but kept very clean. The dining room is bright and inviting. It serves multiple purposes -- meals, social time, and daily activities. It also has a large TV that residents enjoy. For the most part the food served is pretty good. Residents have the option to eat in their rooms if desired. Avalon offers a nice variety of activities each day, including arts and crafts, bingo, music, exercise, and Bible study, which help keep residents active and engaged. There is an onsite hair salon. An interesting fact is the movie Fried Green Tomatoes was filmed there. Overall, Avalon Health and Rehabilitation may not be the newest facility, but it's a warm, caring place with dedicated staff and a genuine community feel.
