I only stayed for one night but this hostel felt very clean and safe. The free breakfast was much better than I expected and when you add that to the free transport card I think that the value for money of this place is really great. I loved the locker system. The room was a little hot (in October) so I would maybe suggest bringing a little fan. Located very close to the lake in a seemingly quiet, safe neighborhood only a few miles from the airport. Definitely doesn't seem like a party hostel, the people were not very social. read more

AMAZING. I've been to a few hostels throughout Europe but this one is by far the best and most memorable. It was: 1. amazingly cheap (~33 euros for an 8 female dormitory) 2. amazing location, close to everything 3. BEAUTIFUL. I felt like I was staying at an actual hotel! The staircase leading up to the rooms, the kitchen, and the reception area were all beautiful. The rooms were also spacious. 4. Easy & friendly reception, open at all hours 5. FREE BREAKFAST. And the breakfast wasn't just dry bread and jam like other places I've been to. There's drinks (coffee, hot chocolate, tea, orange juice, apple juice, milk), cereal, yogurt, muesli, bread with cheese, butter, and jam. 6. secure, with big lockers in the room for each person that open with your key. 7. wifi in the room and throughout the building The only thing I didn't like about this hostel was the showers - it was the kind where the button has to be pressed for the water to come out, which was a hassle and not the most user-friendly. They also provide you with a free city transportation card for your stay at the hostel, which is good for the trains, busses, trams, and boats. read more

Although the word "hostel" is part of its name, this place is about as bare-bones as you can get. Our room had a capacity of 4 people, and we had it all to ourselves, since we were a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children). However, it was very small and very tight. It had two bunk beds in it and only 1 chair and really no room for anything else, including opening one's suitcase. We would have appreciated another chair or 2 or something like a small table (even a bedside table) to set some belongings on. Fortunately, the room opened onto a terrace, so we had some additional space, although it was outdoor space and thus could not be used all the time. With our room, we had to use a shared bathroom. These were generally adequate, with multiple sinks and showers (very private shower stalls with an extra space that includes a bench and hooks). Nowhere in this building is carpeted, so sounds reverberate throughout the building on hard floors and walls, even into sleeping rooms. Outside each sleeping room is a set of lockers corresponding to the number of people the room can hold. This is where you are expected to store and access your suitcase. Again, a table next to each set of lockers would have been helpful so you can more easily have a place to set your stuff as you get out your clothes for the day from your suitcase. Anyway, when these lockers close, they slam, and that creates a loud noise every time it happens, including at night, when you're trying to sleep in your room (i.e., you can hear it in your room, and yes, it's disturbing and annoying). Some doors to the bathroom also close automatically and slam. In addition, on one of the nights, visitors in another room on our floor used the terrace outside their room, gathering and talking at the very start of quiet hours (10:00 p.m.). This was also disturbing, and we had to report this to the front desk. Hostel staff need to tell guests when quiet hours are and enforce them. Since we stayed there during the summer, the nights were a little warm, and so we would have appreciated a fan in our room. But as indicated earlier, there was no room for anything else and it's a bare-bones kind of place. This place has a spacious breakfast room, and it's a very staid (i.e., very Swiss) offering every morning - bread/toast, muesli, coffee, etc. It would have been nice to have a croissant and/or pain chocolate on occasion. There are various other community spaces - seating areas around the lobby, a fully appointed kitchen guests are able to use, a library, etc. Almost every time we passed through the lobby, the line at the front desk was long. We had to wait in a fairly long line ourselves a few times. More staff on duty at the front desk would be helpful. We had to pay for use of towels - 2 francs each - plus a deposit (which was returned when the towels were returned). Also, there were absolutely no toiletries provided - no soap or shampoo in the bathroom. I guess this is why hostels are cheaper than a hotel, but they should be clearer about these costs up front - or tell guests before they arrive to provide all of these things themselves. read more

My family and I had a good stay at this hostel. The facilities is a lot nicer than other hostels I've been to. Plus, the location is really close to many restaurants and convenience stores, as well as a bus stop. Downtown Geneva was walkable within 15 mins or less. Room-wise, we booked the private room since we were checking in with 2 seniors. We were happy with the beds and access to our private toilet. May I add, we really enjoyed having enough outlets to charge all of our gadgets! It may not be a big deal for some, but for a traveling group like us, we really appreciated it. Service at the front desk was wonderful. They were very accommodating. I give this place 4 out of 5 stars simply because I would have loved to have other hot breakfast options. The buffet style is absolutely great (especially access to the coffee machines!), bug having some variety from day to day would be good too. I recommend this place if you are looking for a good, affordable accommodation while in Geneva. These guys are good, they know what they're doing. Plus, booking with them gets you a transit pass too! read more

3.5 stars We (four people total) stayed here for one night. Our room was pretty small and there were two bunk beds. There wasn't that much space to spread out our luggage, so we had to take turns unpacking and packing back our stuff. The bathroom is shared so you had to leave your room to take a shower or use the restroom. There's free wifi at the hostel and the staff will give you the private code. There's also free breakfast during your stay and the food was OK. You can grab bread, cereal, deli meats, yogurt, apples, coffee, tea, and juice. It's probably best to stay here 2 nights max - in my opinion. It was a bit noisy at night since the youngsters (i.e. college / high school students) were pretty rowdy even at 11pm! The hostel was clean overall and it's a quick walk from the bus stop too. read more

Geneva, for a global hub, has a surprisingly limited number of hostels. Don't be deterred by the fact that this youth hostel is not listed on hostelworld.com, it's a perfectly fine place to stay. Clean, safe, and friendly. Unlike the other hostel close by, City Hostel, the Geneva Youth Hostel has large rooms for around 6 people, usually. Everyone is given a locker which is right outside the room. Although I found it annoying to have a locker outside the room at first, I came to appreciate it. Nobody will wake you up by banging around in their locker. The bathrooms are located close by and are clean and well maintained. Nothing to complain about here. The hostel offers free breakfast every morning, which consists of cereal, bread, cheese, and the nastiest "meat" I've ever seen. Regardless of the food quality (or lack thereof), free food in Geneva is a gold mine for cheap vagabonds like me. Since this place is so large, I wouldn't call it a very social hostel. That said, after sitting in the lobby for several hours reading, I met a really nice group spending the summer in Geneva and they invited me out with them. So if you're staying here as a solo traveler, just put in some effort and you can meet people no problem! And if you're a stickler for good service, you can't find nicer employees. I was having difficulties getting my plugs to fit into the adapter I bought, so one of the guys took out a knife and starting hacking away at the extra plastic that made my adapter unusable. After quite some effort, he got it to work! So although this certainly was far from my favorite hostel, it's a good option in Geneva. I would stay here again if I came back. read more

Cute! I stayed here for two nights and found everything to turn out well, especially for my first hostel experience. I stay in the all female 6 person room and the rooms come with an outlets and light at every bed (too and bottom bunks!). The workers give you sheets and a cover for th comforter- side note, the pillow/insides of the comforter in on the bed and you stuff that inside the sheet they give you (didn't know that until a girl told me). Nice employees and this hostel includes breakfast, which closes at 9. Yes this is early. Yes you should be up and about exploring the city at this time anyway haha. Also breakfast includes toast and jam, different cheese and salami, muesli and yogurt, cornflakes, apples, and coffee/ hot chocolate. It comes with wifi and the showers have hot water. Overall great experience. P.s. Either bring a towel or you pay 2 francs to use one for you're whole stay along with a 10 franc deposit. read more

This place doesn't have much character, but anyplace with character in Geneva is SO FREAKING EXPENSIVE! PROS: price (comparatively speaking); location (close to train station, in good area for food); showers (clean and big); lockers (spacious); lobby with lots of plugs for devises; OK: beds (basic, no in-room storage); service (pleasant, if not that helpful); CONS: NO SOAP in the toilet?!?! Hubby, baby and I stayed here for one night this summer on our way through Geneva to the French Alps. It came to about £70 for the night which included a basic breakfast in the morning (toast, cereal, tea, and juice, all in small-moderate quanities). The room was clean and basic (as one would expect of a youth hostel) with private bathroom. Our room was on the top floor with a door opening onto a shared balcony which wrapped around the entire building. It was humid and it would have been nice to have kept the windows/door open all night, but we didn't ... it just seemed to strange to sleep so vulnerably! Location is fab (about 10 minutes tram/walk from Geneva train station), and all guests get travel cards for free train/bus/tram/boat travel in Geneva for the duration of their stay. Lockers at the hostel are cheap and useful for stashing suitcases etc while exploring the city. Just remember to get some Swiss francs otherwise you get a bit screwed on the exchange rate (for example, if you've only got Euros). read more
