Madison Manor is an old, small, nondescript one-story brick building you would drive right past…read morewithout noticing. Even the lot is small. There is none of the external (and internal) "flare" of other senior care facilities such as Redstone Village (or even the place I would *never* recommend, Regency) like putting greens, raised herb gardens, floral gardens, water features, extensive walking paths, ice cream parlors, swimming pools, libraries, etc. It may have a library, I did not explore the entire interior. It's about 3 blocks north of Highway 20 on Sullivan in Madison. It's an 80-bed Medicare/Medicaid skilled care and rehab facility. My best friend and sorority sister's sweet Daddy has been here for about 2 weeks and I have visited him twice. He is in a semi-private room sharing it with another man, and they can have the curtain pulled between them for a little privacy. The rooms are small. Each resident gets a hospital bed, a microscopic wardrobe, a guest chair, a wall-mounted TV [there may be one TV per room], and a bedside table. Logistics are not bad! You ring the front doorbell, and someone lets you in almost immediately, there are no long waits like I experienced at Merrill Gardens while being absolutely loaded down with supplies for Mom. You enter the open lobby area [again, very small; however it and the facility are tidy] and are greeted by the friendliest staff on the planet. There's a tiny [size of an old school calculator] check in device where you key in your name, phone number, answer personal health related questions, the name of the person you are visiting, your relationship, and it takes your temperature and prints out a name tag. Although, it feels like the 70s inside, each person I interacted with was smiling, friendly, kind, and helpful! The staff checked in on my BF's Dad while I was there and tidied up his half room. We met one of the physical therapists and she was very attentive and engaged, offering to coordinate a special need my BF had for her Father, with the nurse. The residents were discussing a Veteran's Day visit a group had organized during which they visited, and gifted the Veteran's with a ball cap and a bag loaded up with goodies like moon pies, Cheetos, and snack crackers. This visit was quite the "buzz" of discussion and made me happy! One of his lunches was typical southern food: fried fish, turnip greens, coleslaw and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. BF said the meals taste really good. I can attest the meals do smell good! Do consider Madison Manor if you need their services. Sadly, skilled care in Madison County is suffering a serious shortage in terms of availability and open beds. Don't expect to be "wowed" by the building itself. Do know you can tailor your loved one's room [or semi-private room] with wall decor, personal photos, calendars, etc. The pictures uploaded here do not reflect the room my BF's dad is in or the exterior. Rather than the somewhat inviting single-bedroom photo here on Yelp, the semi-private rooms are more like 40-year-old hospital rooms. Also, there are no exterior seating areas at MM.

I have one of their fabulous nurses on text message and can get any information I need about Mom in an instant. They are so responsive and so loving. I highly recommend Grandview Gardens for your loved one's memory care needs and Redstone Village for assisted living. Some advice: be present if possible and be active in your loved one's care this goes a long way. Both Redstone Village proper and Grandview Gardens have kept mom happy and healthy for around 7 years! It is an entire life span facility from freestanding homes where you have a beautiful view and can drive your car or golf cart to dining or exercise or swimming facilities to assisted living again with beautiful views, to memory care with ample activities, including day trips to local strawberry picking and restaurants to hospice. Redstone Village is the real deal and my family and I are so grateful Mom is enjoying her 88th year on the planet here. My family have visited other facilities in Madison county and mom lived in one for about a year. Redstone Village eclipses all of them in terms of compassionate care, consistent rule following and generally loving what they do. Almost no personnel turnover. However, I did not like the way Lenny (Thanksgiving Day therapist) and Sigrid (Saturday therapist) ran their sessions. Lenny cut clients' shares off short and her sarcasm was very rude. Sigrid could not take control of her classes from rude clients and was not engaging to listen to. -The Ranch also has 95% amazing BHTs, medical staff, transport crew, etc. However, I did not like my experience with Marsha. She is a BHT for the men's houses and treated us like children. I understand I am an addict, but that does not give you permission to talk down and patronize me. -Small, but sometimes inconvenient and absurd rules, including corporate taking away campfire privileges due to past clients' behavior, limitations on what groceries they would buy for the houses, and having my shampoo and conditioner locked up for a time due to certain chemicals in it. ***Overall: recovery truly only works if I am willing to work my recovery. Even the most pristine, Cadillac of recovery centers will not help me if I am not willing to accept the help given. Nothing changes if nothing changes, so if I wanted my life to transform, I needed to be willing to radically change the way I believe and behave. Notes to corporate: If I had a million dollars and could change anything about The Ranch, it would be the communication, connection between corporate leadership and staff members working directly with clients, and the aftercare plan structure. I felt this constant frustration from lack of communication and how it affected me as a client. I had to ask BHTs to send out daily reminders to other staff members to get anything communicated, whether that be scheduling medical appointments, seeing my case manager, etc. I missed my 1st trauma therapy session because somewhere in the chain of communication that information was lost. I've been transported to the wrong places several times during my stay. I also felt like corporate was constantly implementing rules without considering the true needs of clients here at The Ranch. Fire privileges were taken away because past clients decided to be stupid and throw gas canisters into the fire. It was sad to see clients not able to have proper going away ceremonies by the fire. Lastly, I am glad I have connections to 12 step programs before entering The Ranch because the only thing my case manager set up was connecting me with a therapist. I am still waiting on paperwork to finalize my short-term disability.

I was be in so much pain that I would cry for hours on end I would press the call button and wait and wait for anyone to respond if they responded at all I would ask for my medication only to be met with the nurse is coming down the hall and they would disappear. On several occasions I would push the call button for assistance to the restroom only to be met with no response and I would have an accident in the bed because they couldn't be bothered to help me to the toilet. This is not a place anyone should come. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS.

I could not reach the soap dispenser at all. They were out of reach from the chair. The food was terrible. I tried for days to get a lactose free diet but received a normal diet with cheese, ice cream, etc. every day. I lost 11 lbs in 2.5 weeks there. My room was a good size and had everything I needed. I liked having a private room. Overall, the facility is okay but I will try somewhere else if I ever need a rehab again.​​​

They gently pushed me to a bit more each time, while keeping an eye on my comfort and pain level. Within a few sessions, I was able to move my shoulder around better and wasn't waking up in pain anymore. By the time I "graduated" I was pain free and had a list of exercises to help maintain good health. Now almost a year later, I still have no pain in my shoulder. I credit the Choice therapists with that! I have to say that their Receptionist is also very sweet and was very accommodating to my timing for appointments. All-in-all, I couldn't have been in better hands than Choice Therapy!
