Having been burned by the lack of focus on patient care in the Genesis Health System, I was not sure what to expect under the Trinity umbrella. From the time we admitted my mother into the ICU to the at-home RN nurse visit, patient care has exceeded my expectations. Everyone involved in my mother's treatment were so exceptional. They listened to all our questions, concerns, and most of all...showed empathy. We were treated like real human beings and not spoken to in terms we wouldn't understand. My hat is off to the WHOLE TEAM at Trinity Medical Center. They are superb and I am forever grateful to the care my mom received while under their watch. We are lucky and they saved my mom's life. Mornings, almost impossible to find a Disabled parking spot, only ones far far away…read more At the front desk, try to find the signs, where is the bathroom ? the cafeteria (hint, it is at the elevator long long down the hall) ? the place to pick up their patient, after being treated, if you are driving ? way down the hall, elevator up, then... I gave up, unable to walk that far... Cafeteria ? Locked doors. No sign, no hours, nothing. Hard enough to find, long walk, and (expletive deleted) what the h... ? Candy and pop machines super expensive, if you can get them to work.. I failed. Do they hate people ? Does the front desk just goof off and accidently help some people ? Wheelchairs up front, some are skinny, some are big. How can you tell ? I could not,,, There is a brake system behind the back top of the chair, or it does not work, you gotta see and read the small print AND instructions on it ??? Can you sit in it and operate it... NO !!! F... you it screams. Luckily this is not a place where sick people go, or those in distress, or bad off, its a country club for workers. Sad.

We all know it can be very crowded and long waits at emergency rooms but it's just never seems to be a bad experience a Finley. I received a call about genetic counseling and the VM said they were calling from Finley Hospital. I go online to get the phone number and see it is actually now called UnityPoint Health. I call the number, they answer the phone, "Finley Hospital" I asked for genetic counseling and am told they don't offer that service. I said that the person who left the message said they were from Finley. I asked about the Wendt Cancer Center attached to them and she says, "Oh, yeah!" and transfers me back in to the main phone chain. I had to start all over. Maybe a fact sheet would help to allow you to be able to give correct info to callers. Thank you!

I had a screening scheduled and it was the…read moreworst experience I've ever had with such a simple screening; the NP "seemed" friendly at first but was just awful with patient handling, very rough and treating me as if I were a sack of potatoes! I was also here for another important test and the medical provider (a resident) seemed aloof and disinterested. There was minimal communication through MyChart, just barely enough and in technical (not patient friendly) language. One nurse was kind (hence the two stars), but it wasn't enough and I'd say most of the people I've encountered here, including the security guards at the entrances, were unpleasant. I definitely would not recommend this hospital unless you know or have a recommended physician or unless absolutely necessary. Even though it seems like a huge system with much invested into it, the patient focus and caring (at least from what my family and I experienced) were not there. The bills I received from urgent care for myself and family members also seemed excessive, more or comparative to other systems with much better quality (at diagnosis, speed, and patient care).

Last week I went to the Emergency Room at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. The hospital was easy to…read morefind. The emergency room entrance was easy to get to. There was abundant parking close by. We entered and were immediately attended to by a cheerful person at one of the many check-in windows. After my previous experience, I thought I should ask how long it might be before I could see a doctor. "It's an emergency room, so right away," she responded smiling, but also looking a little perplexed. I explained, "It's just that at the last emergency room I visited, the people were very unfriendly and they wouldn't tell us when I'd be seen by a doctor. They said it might be four hours." She smiled and said at Mercy they try to have people with a doctor in triage within 5 minutes of their arrival. "Would you like a warm blanket?" she asked. "Not right now, thanks," I replied. I felt like I was flying first class or checking in at some kind of fancy resort. I asked where the restroom was. She responded, "It's right over there. Here, take this," and handed me a urine sample cup. In most doctor's offices you sit in the waiting room, and then after a while see a nurse who gives you the sample cup, but only if its deemed necessary, and usually after you've already gone to the bathroom. The moment I stepped out of the restroom the doctor was ready to see me. So, I was being seen and cared for in minutes after my arrival. A few more minutes later, there was a team of nurses and doctors surrounding me working on diagnosing what might be causing my abdominal pain -- asking me various questions to rule out bladder infection, pancreatitis, bowl obstruction, appendicitis, hernia, and various other possible causes. "You may need to go into surgery," one of them told me. Comprehensive lab work was done with blood and urine samples. A full CT scan was performed by two technicians. In all, I think there were about 12 medical professionals attending to me, including the doctors, nurses, CT technicians, lab technicians, and other staff. It was the kind of care you'd imagine a dignitary or celebrity getting -- but that's just apparently how they treat everyone. Well, the good news is that the sharp pain was apparently caused by a pulled abdominal muscle. I just needed to rest up and get better. After knowing it wasn't something more serious, my worries subsided and the pain subsided (with the help of the pain medication they gave me in my IV line). I was home in time for lunch.

Obviously a hospital stay is never fun,…read morebut the staff here were incredibly kind and compassionate and helped take a lot of fear out of the experience. From the time I arrived I was triaged and seen by a nurse within 10 minutes - which is unheard of at any other ER. All of my concerns were thoroughly heard and treated. The billing department is very rude and unprofessional. They had our address wrong and we weren't…read moregetting the bills. The lady on the phone actually criticized us for not having a relationship with our mailman so that he would deliver our mail that was addressed to the wrong address! We had just moved into a new home. A simple phone call to us would have cleared it up but instead they sent the bill to collections who then called us. And when we tried to get it straightened out at the hospital instead of trying to understand what happened, they were rude and blamed us. They are the ones who had our address wrong. We will NEVER go to this hospital again.
