There was also blood on the floor and a person that worked there took come wipes and cleaned it up using her foot. when my husband got to his room he asked for a washcloth toothbrush and tooth paste. I went through the cabinets out in the hall and found these items for him. this was 24 hours later. My husband walked out on his own when he became frustrated while the nurse was trying to scan his wrist band and bottle of meds that were to be given every hour. nurse told my husband she would be back every hour to do this. it never happened so she was trying to scan the medicine and his wrist band for all those hours that he did it himself. totally unacceptabl. worst hospital we have ever been to. Unless you absolutely can't make it anywhere else avoid this hospital. Not one person was kind or caring. My husband was transferred there from Muscatine where got great care for what they were able to do. Rude Rude Rude staff.

NOW, I would absolutely hate to be someone walking into the ER with ANY issue (I've always ended up going by ambulance rig for ER visits) that should have prompt attention. Tonight I witnessed first hand how an ER can be run so piss poorly, that I would choose to drive 30 miles to a podunk hospital than ho to Trinity Rock Island as a walk in patient. A 40 year old male presenting with left side abdominal pains just below the ribcage, low grade fever, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, panic attacks, loss of appetite, vomiting blood, chest tightness, b/p of 158/98 at 180 lbs pulse of 100bpm, and fainting spells sits for 30 minutes when there are only 4 others waiting and an empty parking lot showing that there is no way that in an ER with atleast 20 bed could be full. The receptionist, who is lucky I missed her name tag or I'd call and raise hell tomorrow with their HR, was rude as hell. When taken in for triage to find out the chief complaints of the patient (I went in as a witness), patient was handed a specimen cup and told that if he was able to fill it once he was sent BACK to the waiting room, that would help speed up his waiting time, he filled it after another 10 minutes in the waiting room and passed it to the desk woman. After another 45 minutes he was called back for blood draws. Sent back out to wait again, and an hour later he decided to go to a smaller hospital half an hour away the following day, and just be in pain that night. He was wrong for leaving, but when you feel like absolute crap, you're in pain, haven't been able to eat, or sleep well, for 2-3 months, explain it to someone and get nothing in return, your anger can take over and you do counterproductive things. I'd rather be beaten half to death with a bag full of rocks than have to walk into that ER. Ambulance rides rule there.

I received a call about genetic counseling and the VM said they were calling from Finley Hospital. I go online to get the phone number and see it is actually now called UnityPoint Health. I call the number, they answer the phone, "Finley Hospital" I asked for genetic counseling and am told they don't offer that service. I said that the person who left the message said they were from Finley. I asked about the Wendt Cancer Center attached to them and she says, "Oh, yeah!" and transfers me back in to the main phone chain. I had to start all over. Maybe a fact sheet would help to allow you to be able to give correct info to callers. Thank you!

We all know it can be very crowded and long waits at emergency rooms but it's just never seems to be a bad experience a Finley. Communication among the "teams" of doctors was terrible. Communication with the family was abysmal. We experienced the ER, the cardiac floor, the spinal floor, the pulmonary floor and ICU. Getting information was impossible. So glad she's home now. Mayo is only 30 more minutes for this part of the family. That's where they will go for critical care if at all possible. Literally denying me medical when I've been laced with more than one insecticide to obtain access to the controlled B1 substance that my cardiologist thought was best for me. So every time I am in EKG at another hospital I have had issues with their addicts and their interference with counter indicatory medications and I've tried eight hospitals. I was just asking how to obtain my medical when mercy one is the one that attached the restraining orders to my medical records... I got my nurse right away and she took me to a private room, did some vitals and asked why I was there. She really listened to what I said. I then waited for the doctor to come in. Although it took an hour and a half for him to show, the nurse checked on my a couple time making sure I was okay. Doctor really listened to my needs and talked me through the next steps I would need to take in the morning. Overall a great experience (for an ER trip)! The lady on the phone actually criticized us for not having a relationship with our mailman so that he would deliver our mail that was addressed to the wrong address! We had just moved into a new home. A simple phone call to us would have cleared it up but instead they sent the bill to collections who then called us. And when we tried to get it straightened out at the hospital instead of trying to understand what happened, they were rude and blamed us. They are the ones who had our address wrong. We will NEVER go to this hospital again.
