Definitely would not return to this hostel. I've stayed in the Paris Generator and it was so much better than this one. My room had no mirror, the smoking area was right outside the window so I'd wake up coughing because our room was filled with smoke, and we never opened the window it just came in anyways. There was no shower or bathroom in our room like the Paris one. Our shared women's bathroom that was in the hallway smelled so bad like rotting toilet paper and the showers were see through with no locks on the actual bathroom door so anyone could've walked in on you. The location is great but that's about it.

Very warm, upbeat and welcoming staff. Quick to assist, answer questions, and make suggestions. Check in was smooth, no problems. Decoration around the lounge, bars, dining areas are eclectic and modern decor. Lots of people passing through on vacation or on other reasons for travel. Just standing in the lobby, you can hear at least 5 languages in the air. Cool!! I stayed in a women's dorm for 10. So 5 bunk beds, including personal trunk space and vanity area, 1 sink inside the dorm, women's bathroom down the hall. Everyone is very respectful, quiet at night and early in the morning. Guys across the hall or around the corner were quiet too. I was pleasantly surprised how quiet it was at night. Not rowdy at all. Only issue, you can't bring in food from outside and there isn't a kitchen to prepare your own food. So you can either purchase prepared food in the restaurant/pub on the premises , or eat out. Tons of affordable places to eat and drink within a block or few blocks walking. Great neighborhood, safe and easily access to the underground train. I would stay here again!!!

But you gotta do what you gotta do when you're solo traveling and on a tight budget. I was originally going to stay at an Airbnb in London, but last-minute decided to book a hostel. Now, I am very glad that I did!! Sohostel was great. The moment I walked through the door, the receptionists were super friendly and even gave me a tour of the building and showed me to my room. Everything is just so colorful and vibrant - Just the design itself makes you feel comfortable and safe there! They had a lovely lounge room, with a giant projector screen, a snack bar and a bunch of people mingling and hanging out. I had a room with two bunk beds and it was TINY. Basically, the only place you can be is in your bed. But I didn't have a problem with that. What I loved was that there were electric outlets for each bunk, top and bottom, with USB's as well (great for international travelers!) As for location, it's in a great spot. Right in Soho and near Piccadilly Circus, many bars around, a park....I could go on. Only about a 20 minute walk to the big attractions. The price is incredibly cheap as well.. I highly recommend Sohostel for your stay in London!!

TL;DR at bottom. The photos on this Yelp page gave me war flashbacks to this godawful hostel experience with those prison-like triple bunks. My own personal hell would be staying here for all eternity. Ended up checking out 2 days early. Non refundable of course... but honestly worth it to get out of this sh****le. First off, black mold. Friend and I both got sick being here after only staying for one night (not even... slept for only three hours. Was so gross we wanted to leave ASAP). It's been a week and I still feel feel so, so sick and congested. The place smelled like feet. Not clean. There was a trash bag shoved in the ceiling next to my bed when I got there. Does nobody clean it? Staff was rude. Customers even ruder. Average clientele is a 40 year old man. Really takes the "youth" out of youth hostel. Creepy. Overall very unsafe for a group of college age girls looking for a fun hostel experience. Location is safe but not a fun area tbh. Overpriced. TL;DR: don't stay here. Any positive reviews are from ppl with zero standards. Not a youth hostel if the average clientele are 40yo creepy men. Smells like feet. Friend and I both got sick here (black mold). Checked out and got a hotel and this was non refundable but I didn't care. Not a fun area. Keep looking, don't book here. Trust me on this.

Admittedly, the first night was a shock since this was the very first hostel I've ever been in. And, after a long travel day I just wanted to relax with my own privacy, which is something you don't really get at a hostel. Setting those expectations aside and after a few more nights, it wasn't all that bad at all. I stayed in a 6-bed room (two bunk beds with 3 stacked high). It was nice and clean and each bed had their own curtain for privacy which I really appreciated. The room also had a sink so you can freshen up in the room which I also appreciated. As for my roommates, I really lucked out and had really nice people who were very respectful and nice. There were four toilets in total, all shared by everyone in the section of the basement. They were nice and clean each time I used them. The shower situation was probably what I dreaded the most. Don't get me wrong, it served it's purpose, but personally I limited my time there. In the men's showers, there were 6 stalls, all clean. However, there is no opportunity to set the temperature of the water, so each time I showered I was showering in extremely hot water. You also had to press a button every 15 seconds for the water pour which was a bit odd. The common areas which were on the ground floor were clean. Plenty of tables for whatever you need. I did not get a chance to look at the kitchen area, but it's good to know that it's available to you. The service was alright. Maybe it's me being an American in London and trying to get used to the Londoner culture, but, whatever. All-in-all, I would stay here again if I was staying 2 or 3 nights. Its very close to SoHo and right next to the Picadilly which virtually connects to anywhere you need to go. Definitely would recommend this if you need a place to stay for a short period and on a budget.
