I really wanted to like this place. It's got a fun party vibe and is absurdly cheap. But my…read moreexperience wasn't great. I shared a 12 person mixed dorm. It was extremely cramped and had no ventilation. In the morning it was smelly and steamy from so many bodies. Since there was so little space there were people's belongings everywhere and the room was so crowded. I have only a few hostel experiences so I'm no expert, but my next hostel was an 18 person mixed room and it was so comfortable and spacious in comparison. They have cool nightly events like karaoke as well as a bar with cheap food downstairs which is great. It is a very young crowd- 18-25 I'd guess and at 34 I felt quite old and out of place though I met and hung out with some cool young folks. The shower situation is also not great. The showers are hot but have a button that needs to be pressed every 30 seconds or so to keep the shower going. Since I have long curly hair and my showers need a little more time for detangling I basically just rinsed and couldn't wash my hair. Overall this place is safe and super cheap. Its conventiely located to Kings Cross and the area is nice. If you are looking for something for a night or two go for it, it's not terrible, but again I was very relieved to have more space and shower at my next hostel.

WORST hostel in London! Do not stay here. It used to be a pleasant stay, but it is NOT now…read more There was a woman in our dorm last January running around completely nude for three days. The last night I was there she was so drunk she moved from bed to bed on fresh covers only just changed. Those sheets/duvets cost the hostel money to clean, so I reported her moving around to unassigned racks. Instead of being happy I had their back, the front desk put into the notes on MY name that I was a problem and that I had done that! I did not know it until today when I tried to book a stay this July. The Operations Manager told me he could do nothing to remove the wrongful accusations against me. He could rent a private room but not the more affordable dorm bed. The music in the pub is so loud now, it's like St. Christoper's Inn--it's all party and no comfort now. This place has rapidly descended into to a miserable place to rent a dorm bed.

Additionally there were no working outlets available on the side of the room that we booked. HIGHLY disappointed and would never recommend this location. TL;DR at bottom. The photos on this Yelp page gave me war flashbacks to this godawful hostel experience with those prison-like triple bunks. My own personal hell would be staying here for all eternity. Ended up checking out 2 days early. Non refundable of course... but honestly worth it to get out of this sh****le. First off, black mold. Friend and I both got sick being here after only staying for one night (not even... slept for only three hours. Was so gross we wanted to leave ASAP). It's been a week and I still feel feel so, so sick and congested. The place smelled like feet. Not clean. There was a trash bag shoved in the ceiling next to my bed when I got there. Does nobody clean it? Staff was rude. Customers even ruder. Average clientele is a 40 year old man. Really takes the "youth" out of youth hostel. Creepy. Overall very unsafe for a group of college age girls looking for a fun hostel experience. Location is safe but not a fun area tbh. Overpriced. TL;DR: don't stay here. Any positive reviews are from ppl with zero standards. Not a youth hostel if the average clientele are 40yo creepy men. Smells like feet. Friend and I both got sick here (black mold). Checked out and got a hotel and this was non refundable but I didn't care. Not a fun area. Keep looking, don't book here. Trust me on this.

I was here for five days, and I can honestly say I think i had a pretty good grasp of things around…read morethe hostel. Admittedly, the first night was a shock since this was the very first hostel I've ever been in. And, after a long travel day I just wanted to relax with my own privacy, which is something you don't really get at a hostel. Setting those expectations aside and after a few more nights, it wasn't all that bad at all. I stayed in a 6-bed room (two bunk beds with 3 stacked high). It was nice and clean and each bed had their own curtain for privacy which I really appreciated. The room also had a sink so you can freshen up in the room which I also appreciated. As for my roommates, I really lucked out and had really nice people who were very respectful and nice. There were four toilets in total, all shared by everyone in the section of the basement. They were nice and clean each time I used them. The shower situation was probably what I dreaded the most. Don't get me wrong, it served it's purpose, but personally I limited my time there. In the men's showers, there were 6 stalls, all clean. However, there is no opportunity to set the temperature of the water, so each time I showered I was showering in extremely hot water. You also had to press a button every 15 seconds for the water pour which was a bit odd. The common areas which were on the ground floor were clean. Plenty of tables for whatever you need. I did not get a chance to look at the kitchen area, but it's good to know that it's available to you. The service was alright. Maybe it's me being an American in London and trying to get used to the Londoner culture, but, whatever. All-in-all, I would stay here again if I was staying 2 or 3 nights. Its very close to SoHo and right next to the Picadilly which virtually connects to anywhere you need to go. Definitely would recommend this if you need a place to stay for a short period and on a budget.

It gave a pleasant feel. This is also the area you check-in at. The front-desk staff were very friendly and walked us through how to use our key cards and where things were located. The room looked like a dorm room, as expected, with bunk beds and lockers. We also had a private bathroom and shower, which I was pleasantly surprised about. We couldn't get the A/C to work, so we had to keep the windows cracked at all times. It would've been nice to be able to open the window completely for more airflow as it got stuffy/warm often. The beds are a place to sleep... don't expect much comfort. Loved the basement common areas! So much space and unique places to sit. I am in remission from cancer and the property has zero accommodations for people with any form of disability. The staff is extremely racist and homophobic. It isn't not a safe space for anyone within the LGBTQ community , young travelers or if you have disabilities. I told the front desk I was in remission from cancer and have anemia. The employee proceeded to put me on the third floor that did not have any lift access. He also put me in the one bed that had a broken window. The property is also very dirty and they do not clean the beds properly. They just spray it with disinfectant and call it a day. While I was on the property I was sexually assaulted and cornered in the kitchen. The front desk witnessed me get bullied by extremely older men and made fun of me for not wanting to entertain them. I'm 19 and a 60 year old man kept threatening me and telling me to suck his ... while I was sleeping. He proceeded to open my curtain when I was sleeping and yell at me calling me an N word and homophobic slurs. When I turned the lights on in the room and woke up the rest of the room the front desk told me that they would kick me out if I complained again. The man followed me around the property for three days and everyone I complained the property laughed and made jokes. After I complained the to the front desk they gave me the option to leave and be refunded but refused to kick out the man who had SA'd me. I didn't ask for special treatment, just for them to treat me with respect. I had multiple things stolen from my room , including my credit card , brand new Apple charger and skincare products and makeup from Sephora. When I complained to the front desk the guy working from Nashville told me to "keep that Sh** private. Making me the problem. When I tried to take my charger back from the creepy old man who stole it he got physical with me and I grabbed his headphones and threw them out a window. Because of this they accused me of "stealing" and kicked me off the property. They refused to believe me and said there was no CCTV footage. I threw the man's headphones out of the bathroom window. They all of the sudden were able to get the CCTV footage of me throwing the headphones out of the shower windows but they weren't able to provide CCTV footage of the men in the little kitchen or common areas. It seems like they're just watching people while they shower which is insane. As for the property. The kitchen is not existent and people are constantly brushing up against each other. Old men are everywhere and use the kitchen as an opportunity to grab you and blame it on the tight space. The entire staff is just extremely rude and I would not recommend this place to young , travelers especially women because it is extremely unsafe and the staff do not do anything when you report it. They just care about their 5 star reviews and will try to silence you if you complain about the property. The staff would also proceed to cough anytime I walked by , after I complained that it isn't safe for someone at the front desk to be working if they were ill as it could make other people in the hostel sick. The staff also threw out all my food and said I had not labeled it properly. But they had given everyone else a note saying that if they did not label their food properly it would be thrown out the following day. It is clear that they just didn't want me on their property and from the start wanted to find any reason to kick me out. The Generator London and Click261 are much better options in London. I've used hostel world for years now and this is the only property that I have had issue with. The location of this hostel is also not great. It's super far and the two I had previously mentioned are much closer to central London, cheaper and have better facilities and staff. Definitely do not recommend.

My group stayed in a ten bed female room. The room was in the basement floor, which meant very little air circulation. The weather in London during our stay was rather cool, but because of the lack of air circulation, our room was incredibly stuffy and it smelled like gym socks. Also, the wifi didn't reach our room and the common room was often full, so when I had to check my email I sometimes had to sit on a stairway. The showers were clean, but again, no air circulation and I saw mold on the ceiling. The toilet stalls were the smallest I've ever had to use; To get out of the stall, your legs WILL rub against the toilet bowl. The bathrooms are communal for the floor, so we had to share the bathroom with a bunch of guys. Also, I dont think they clean the bathrooms every morning because I saw the same bits of gunk over twelve hours later. The things I did enjoy about this hostel were the free breakfasts (toast, cereal, coffee and juice) and the friendly staff. I liked the large lockers under the bed and the hostel felt very safe. Each bunk had privacy curtains, a reading lamp, and an outlet. Overall, I would consider staying here again, but I wouldn't be excited about it.

The host rents out 3 rooms in his house, and you have full access to the kitchen and the bathroom. I really liked the arrangement because I could cook me own meals and save some money on eating out. The facilities were clean and well-maintained. The host, James, was very helpful and considerate. He is also very knowledgeable of London, so make sure to ask him for sightseeing suggestions. He is also very smart and pleasant to talk to. Definitely talk to him about art :) The house is situated in Walthamstow, one of the London suburbs. It's a nice neighborhood, there is a huge street market working on High street, so you can get, for example, fruits or other food for cheap. There are also at least three large supermarkets on High street, some pubs and restaurants if you don't cook or prefer eating out. Despite the presence of tha market I didn't have any problems with security, even when I came back late at night. The streets are well lit, there are police patrols, so it indeed feels quite safe. Walthamstow central station is within a 15-minute walking distance. There's a Victoria line Tube station there as well as buses and trains (I've never used the latter). The Underground will take you to King's Cross in 25 minutes and to Victoria Station in 40. The trains go every 3-7 minutes, but, unfortunately, I've found the London Underground to be quite unreliable, e.g. the service is disrupted sometimes -- but that is the problem you will have to face if you're staying in the suburbs (and a lot of other hostels and rentals are situated in the suburbs too). The buses are more reliable but take more time to reach London. There are night buses that run all night and you can use them if you're coming back late (the underground closes at 11pm). Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Woodville Guesthouse. It's a really good alternative to staying at a hotel if you're traveling on a budget.
