Probably top rated in its day. Currently rooms need updating and general mold and mildew management. Tile floors slippery when wet. No hot tub, but huge jetted tub. Hard to get reservations for fine dining and for excursions. Ask the minute you arrive, before you go to your room. 1st floor swim outs are very nice. Don't bother with 2nd or 3rd floor. If you have kids who need naps choose building 20. Kids to teens who need swimming supervision building 19. Loud, but where the action happens. Teens building 18. They will be on the move all day. 18 is a little less busy in the water but easy for check ins. If you are 18+ check out one of the neighboring resorts all under same ownership. This beach is not for swimming bring swimming shoes if you plan to go knee deep. The beach draped beds which is quiet and relaxing. edit! I found out they use Lactose free milk in the restaurant cappuccino machine. Beware! Montezuma visited me last night. We've been so careful. I noticed the spinach on the salad bar had not been cleaned properly. I suspect that they're not cleaning the frozen vegetables with bottled water. Before my arrival I was excited about the opportunity to be at an all inclusive resort. Our travel agent said it was KID friendly ( HAH ! not really) We were immediately disappointed at arrival. We paid extra to be on the first floor walkout to the cold pool. This was the FIRST time at this RESORT. The staff were friendly but quickly wanted us out of their space. They asked if this was the first time, we said yes. However we were NOT given complete information and were not told to BOOK restaurants NOW. Don't wait!!! The adjoining rooms : Mine was fine... however my daughter's was POOR. The sofa smelled like someone urinated on it . The reading light was poorly connect and gave one a shock when they touched. The bathroom had a broken and cracked sink that leaked water when you turned it on ( pictures below). One shower light leaked water. We notified the front desk the next morning , because we arrived late due to delayed Lomas Travel travel to the Resort from the airport. It took us 3 hours to get a van. We waited outside the the Lomas Travel spot and they were friendly . However kept saying " it is coming ". Gratefully when we finally had a van we were the first drop off location. We asked the concierge if there was another suite. NO was the response they were booked full . We would have to take a lesser upper floor and would have to sign a release /acceptance with no refunds or credits for the lesser room. Yes ...They came to clean the room and address the sofa bed odors and stains. they did not fix the sink nor the light. Only one dinner reservation was achievable, for 4 persons . The other reservations were for 2 people only. Understandable we could not go to the ADULTS only side restaurants with my young grandson. My recommendation: RESERVE all restaurants before you get to the resort Again we should have been informed BEFORE we arrived. The food was acceptable . The Indian and Italian restaurants were the best - they get 4 stars for the entrees and appetizers. The Indian restaurant did NOT have any of their menu listed desserts...only strawberry ice cream. This was a disappointment but tolerable. The Tex Mex restaurant was so poor we walked out and ordered room service. They are kid friendly and provide support if your child is over 5 years old or an infant that mom takes care of/feeds ! They had no paper, plastic cups or straws for 3 years old. They gave my grandson a stemless wine glass with chocolate milk. REALLY? We had to ask for a recyclable plastic cup every time we sat down. They had adult plates and eating utensils. So I learned that kid friendly meant that they smiled and said hi to kids and provided at 3 restaurants a kid menu of the basics. I will say 90% of the wait staff were friendly. Smiling and saying hello and have a good day in Spanish. And yes , we did tip them. However, Most of the answers to our questions were: - no we cannot do that or that is not available , or no sorry. The ADULTS ONLY side of the resort was beautiful ! and probably a better place and service . However remember NO kids are allowed on that side . MORE INCLUSIVE activities , 3 of them, were NOT kid under 6 friendly. NO kids under 6 . Nickelodeon was accessible and covered. However, despite scheduling in advance the date we wanted to go , we waited an hour to get a van ride to a place that was very close. And then we waited in line to get our wrist band. Again more information at check-in would have helped and directions how to walk there across the resorts would have helped. OR more golf cart transportation! There was a play area for kids but not open all day. And if your child was under 4 you had to have an adult there. BUT only one adult could come in. Another rule even if the place was empty ! We had to book our return transportation trip to the airport 3 x's . Once at Check in and 2x's more - not sure why? We did get a direct van 4 hours before our flight departure. Maybe should have fudged about departure time. The refrigerator was stocked sufficiently with water, sugary soda , and beers . No juices or other waters . No regular milk for children. 2 small cartons of chocolate milk. The weather was beautiful as well as the views. My recommendation s are: work directly with the Resort and reserve. FORGET the middle man - LOMAS Travel in our case. It cost us extra $$ for sure. It was hard to get a fully paid receipt from either entity and we had to fully pay i month before arrival. It was very difficult to get travel vouchers to the RESORT . We received them less than 4 hours before arrival in Cancun. Promised 5 days before arrival . Ask many questions, the web site has limited information mostly for advertisement purposes. BOOK all eating locations requiring reservations before you arrive at the Resort . Make sure if you are bringing kids that they are older than 6! We should have been told about that by the travel agent. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at Generations Riviera Maya during our trip to Cancun for our friends' wedding. Candidly, we didn't have a choice on our accommodations since Generations Riviera Maya was blocked off for the wedding guests. I was impressed by the resort and had an overall pleasant stay. TLDR... We booked a room with the swim-up pool. When we checked in, we were upgraded to the first floor, where we had the swim up right into the main pool. We were also close enough to access a personal concierge, restaurants, etc. In general, I thought that our suite was awesome. The bathroom had a bath tub, Jack and Jill sinks, and a spacious shower with a waterfall shower head. Our suite had a living room, a stocked fridge, and even a little dining area. There were a few things that irked me about the room, though. - Some of the hinges on the cabinets and drawers were shoddy. - The socket holes didn't securely keep plugs in place, so electronics had a hard time charging. The screen door kept coming off its tracks. - The temperature in the room was difficult to regulate. I often felt too cold. - Loved the waterfall shower head, but didn't love the shower design. Water kept escaping underneath the shower door, which had a huge gap. We had to wedge body towels to block the gap and soak up water, otherwise water went everywhere. I scheduled reservations for the spa and tours when I was at the resort. Náay spa was on the 4th floor of the facility. The menu itself doesn't have pricing, but the spa receptionists were super helpful in detailing the prices and service offerings. Food reviews: Room service food was a hit or miss. Things that were decent had flavor, otherwise everything else we tried was bland. We only had breakfast at the Chef Market. Mostly everything was made to order and/or served to you with the exception of the juice bar. The breakfast at Chef Market was better than Palms. I was not a fan of the drinks from the pool bar. They were way too sweet and tasted like they were made with alternative sweeteners like sorbitol or nutrasweet. Reservations are not required at Habb (Indian restaurant), but we made one anyway since it was pretty busy at our resort. Food was a 4 out of 5. We had a fine dining experience at Wine Kitchen. You'll definitely need reservations there, and we thought the food was 5 out of 5. Very flavorful and elegant presentations. The tomato soup was incredible. We ate a couple of times at Palms. One time for breakfast and the other times for lunch. I felt that the food was pretty solid. Between Palms and Chef Market, I found that Palms was the better casual dining restaurant. Only thing to negatively note was that Palms' breakfast menu didn't have that many options as compared to the lunch menu. Náay Spa: Although I booked my spa appointments at Generations, both treatments were done at the Náay spa location in the Casitas resort. They were having a deal on couples' massage called the Soulmate Experience that included a 60 minute water journey, aromatherapy ritual, 50 minute massage, and 15 minute reflexology. This 2-hour experience was $329 USD for a couple, which was such an incredible deal in my opinion. It was a very romantic couples massage with the little ritual we did together at the beginning of the session. We both agreed that our massages were excellent. Speaking for myself, the massage I received was one of the best I've had while on vacation. I also scheduled the Temazcal. I've been in ceremony before with sweat lodges, so I was excited to find that this service stayed true to indigenous traditions. If you're ready for a deep, spiritual transformation, then definitely do this. Miscellaneous: The staff members were very friendly and nice. They try to converse with you and genuinely care about your well-being. The shuttle service wasn't the best. The countdown timer in front of the concierge lounge in building 18 basically meant nothing. I had to request shuttles whenever I had to make my appointments or run out for specific errands at the main office. I booked a Chichen Itza and cenote tour with the Lomas Travel kiosk next to the pool. The agent was super helpful and explained everything thoroughly to me. read more

After spending a lot of money to travel and stay here, I expected basic hospitality -- but that's not what we got. Staff were often rude and dismissive, room service was nonexistent, and many of us had issues with AC not working or no hot water in our rooms. Even guests who made restaurant reservations in advance were turned away, which made meals frustrating and unpredictable. There were food service issues at multiple wedding events, which makes the host look bad, even if it isn't in their control. That kind of mistake is completely unacceptable. This resort may look beautiful, but the service was nowhere near the standard you'd expect from a wedding venue -- especially one charging this much. We were on the family side of the resort and got a swim up pool room, which was perfect! If you want just adults, you can book in their adults only section. Being able to wake up and jump right in the pool was a highlight! The all inclusive resort was a key in booking this resort, as there were plethora food choice options. The best place we ate at was the wine kitchen for dinner! Other than the wedding, the best part was the couples romantic massage on the beach! A well worth it tour got us a reduced price and my fiancé and I were in heaven through the whole thing! You start off with an hour of hydrotherapy and then the couples massage! My Husband & I had a great experience here. From the moment the transportation team picked us up from the airport to the moment they dropped us back off to the airport, everything went smoothly! Staff was friendly & happy to help at any given moment. Front desk was kind, attentive & helpful. Directions & protocols are very transparent. Rooms are so cozy, beds are so comfortable, the pool outside our room was beautiful & relaxing. Fridges fully stocked with drinks. We had to request more water bottles a few times though. One night we didn't have the humidifier on in the room & our passports curled up by the morning! Lol! It's easy to walk to all the restaurants, no reservations were needed. Food was so great! Always given plenty of options and portions. Everything seems to come with an appetizer, entree & dessert which was fabulous! Our favorite server was Jj! He made everything so special & fun. The beach is beautiful but we felt paranoid based on a few other comments seen from other people so we mainly stayed on resort property. It's easy taking a shuttle over to the hotels next door but just be careful because when they stop running.... It will be a longggggg walk back. We got lucky & paid a worker to give us a ride back one late night, but the driver was talking bad about the guests & cursing about them (assuming I didn't understand) ....it didn't pertain to us, so I didn't address it. The pool & swim up bar is a great addition, my only complaint is that the "mixers" are very different than mixers in the US, so the drinks taste a little differently, almost watered down, the vodka cran just tastes like a sweet drink with vodka (not actual cranberry juice) I recommend sticking to beer & wine. There was a man cutting open coconuts to drink out of on property which was a nice vacation drink to enjoy. We bought a few souvenirs from a lady's cart on property which quickly added up to $100 US dollars, so be mindful of that, or try to bargain. That was definitely a rip off. We went to a rooftop wedding which was beautiful, had amazing views, food, music, dancing ect. Everyone had a great time. I really loved this place, and hope to be back again in the future. Possibly the worst experience I have ever had at an all inclusive resort. My wife and kids were crying in the lobby as they used the old bait and switch to give us a room that we didn't book and refused to make it right. The PM manager Sergio Lozano did absolutely nothing about the situation, deflecting and blaming the Exotic Club for the issue rather than helping resolve the situation for his guests and figuring it out later. Staff spoke about us in Spanish, thinking that we didn't know what the were saying...Concierge Estephaine literally yelled at my wife when she was shown how our actual reservation did not match the room they put us in. No upper manager available or even emails/contact information for anyone higher up to talk to later. This place is a complete scam. Day 2 has been probably the worst level of service I have ever received at an all inclusive resort. Zero drinks brought to us, as Ruby members we have paid for certain perks and a level of service that is just not here. No mini bar (one of the perks of our membership level), no butler service, no turn down service, no housekeeping today. Four people in our room now ( we were supposed to have two rooms as part of our membership but that was messed up too) and only towels for two people. We were so excited to spend our vacation here. We booked a 2 bedroom, oceanfront swim up suite which was beautiful on the inside and very spacious. Came with a small kitchenette, microwave, stove top and fridge and a huge dining table enough to seat 8. Nice jetted rubs and rain shower in the bathrooms. However we were given the innermost corner of building 18, rooms 18381 and 91 which barely had ocean view. Unless you are in the plunge pool, you can't see the ocean. They have 3 restaurants that serve only dinner. Haab serves Indian, Jade is the Asian inspired and wine kitchen. There is chef market that's a buffet restaurant for breakfast and lunch, and palms for lunch alone. For a gourmet all inclusive, the dining options were limited and food was just ok except Haab. We absolutely loved dining at Haab, great food and excellent location with sweeping views of the ocean. We didn't enjoy the food at jade. Wine kitchen is a rather deceiving name, the same house wines (2 whites, 2 reds, sparkling and rose) are served as a part of the all inclusive package and they are not very good. Rest of the wine is pretty pricy and very high mark up. You are looking at paying $100 for a bottle of wine that you can find in the US for under $20. They have some good top shelf alcohol like grey goose vodka, grand mariner, Hennessy and don Julio tequila. Room service options are limited. The staff at chef market, Haab, and swim up bar is a 5 star, they do everything to get things done. We also enjoyed the mexican fiesta that happens every Thursday night. The beach is terrible, full of sea weed and rocks. Looks pretty from far but not fun to swim. If you do plan to get in, get water shoes to avoid getting your feet hurt from the rocks. The view is blocked by the concrete barriers which the resort claims is done do reduce soil erosion. They try to sell bali beds/beach cabanas but they are first come first serve basis if you don't want to spend on concierge reserving that for you. Luckily it wasn't so busy when we traveled so we could find a beach cabana without reserving it. They do try to sell you their membership program and offer incentives like excursions or spa if you attend. There is a butler lounge and you get concierge service but we were disappointed with the concierge service. Every time I asked for something, our concierge guy, Cesar who had an office on the entrance of building 18, told us where to go, but never did a thing for us. Half the nights, they forgot turn down service. Spa is overpriced, $100 USD for a 25 min back massage. The menu in the room has no prices on it as I was told it changes by the day! Seriously?! You also get access to restaurants at El dorado, but they are adults only. We tried campai, Italian place at the casitas and jojos. Food at campai was the best. read more

Let me preface by saying that I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. It was for an extended family vacation. So lots of people and large age range. I'm not sure if it is for everybody. Depends on what you are looking for. The facilities are impeccable. Not sure how old the place is but they maintain it very well. The rooms are all very large, very clean, and they come in and clean and tidy up multiple times a day. We rented a 1 bedroom. We had a small kitchenette, small bar, large dining table with comfortable seating for 8, full size fridge, large sofa with small pull out so you could actually sleep 3 there. 2 bathrooms. The bedroom is large with a King bed. Balcony with ocean views. All the rooms have ocean views. 2 large room areas (bedroom and living room have AC). The frindge is stocked with sodas, beers, and a few snacks. All-inclusive. Even the non bedroom rooms were quite large. The rooms are cheaper the higher you go up because the bottom floor, the balcony connects to the main large pool. Would probably do this next time. The 3 levels up have their own infinity pool off their balcony. Share it with the whole row for rooms for the floor, but still very private feel. The top 2 floors have ocean views and balcony. The main pool is humongous. Extends along the entire length of the facility. There is one tiny kids pool. The pools are super clean and well maintained. It is a family resort though. No deep end. I could stand through the entire length of the pool. One minor gripe about the pool is a that it is not heated. It felt really cold at first, but manageable. Also, no hot tub anywhere. I also came in the winter, so during the summer that probably is not a problem. The food was actually not bad for all-inclusive. Breakfast and lunch are buffet style with custom order omelette for breakfast. Not great but not bad at all. Quite an extensive selection. The poolside terrace was just ok. They don't serve food where you lounge by the pool though. Only in a specific area. You order drinks wherever you are, but not food. Dinner, was surprisingly decent. There is a DRESS CODE. Be familiar with it. Very lenient for woman but not as lenient for men. Jade is the Asian restaurant. Thought the appetizers were better than the entrees. The favorites were the chicken egg rolls and Mongolian beef. The desserts were no good. The sushi is not terrible but not great. Ok quality, but large rice/sushi ratio. Haab is the Indian restaurant. Here we thought the entrees were overall better than the appetizers. Favorites were samosas, paneer makhani. Pollo 65 and chicken tikka masala were also good. The naan was not good. The first day came out super hard, almost crispy. Second day not as bad but still not great. The desserts were better here. Olive oil cake and baclava were probably the better ones. We didn't try Wine Kitchen as several members in our large party had dietary restrictions that would severely limit what we could eat there. Also they could only seat 6 to a table max. Not sure if it was off season, winter and 1 week before Christmas, but the restaurants were half empty and we would still have 30-45 minute waits to be seated. I think they were not fully staffed. They also had a large event (some awards party) the week before we were there so not sure if people were taking vacation. You can always go to their sister properties for dinner too, probably better food there, but we couldn't as we had too many kids and the other properties are adults only. The beach was a little disappointing. Maybe I am used to Orange County and San Diego beaches. It's a pretty high standard. There was a regular amount of red seaweed/algae in the water and along the beach. I've seen worse but there was a considerable amount of plastic waste along the beach too. The water was nice and warm. They have snorkeling availed supposedly just off their beach but I didn't see how you really could. I saw one person trying the whole week. The waves were choppy almost the whole week. Also they have large concrete structures dotted along the entire length of the beach to help deter soil erosion., They have many Bali beds (like small cabana) along the beach that are all free. You can pay small amounts to reserve one if you want but otherwise first come first serve. This was probably one of my favorite things here. Just relaxing in a Bali bed by the ocean. They don't pressure you much at all into additional excursions. Which I appreciated greatly. The service was top-notch. They were all super friendly and helpful. (Except the waiters, until I started tipping). I thought it was all-inclusive so you didn't have to tip, but I was very wrong there. As soon as I started tipping there were much friendlier, didn't have the constant "annoyed" appearance. We did also have a large group so made things more difficult. I just arrived at Generations 5 hrs ago and it's been nothing but disappointing thus far. I reserved a 3 bedroom swim up suite. My understanding, based on descriptions and pictures on Generation's website, is that all such suites have a separate dining, kitchen, and living area. The suite I was given had no such area. I called the front desk upon entering my suite to inquire and they fed me this line -- your membership tier does not qualify for such suites. I mean, seriously, what the heck are you guys talking about?! Your website suggests that every 3 bed suite has this separate area. Exceptionally misleading marketing. Prior to my arrival, I requested my room be pre-stocked with milk for my 2 and 4 year old children. No milk was to be found when we entered the room. I ordered room service and requested milk. No milk was delivered. I asked the person delivering room service to bring the milk that was originally requested. He never returned. I called room service again to request milk. Several hours later, still no milk. My 2 year old cried at length because she had no milk when going to sleep. Now, at 9pm, there is a group banging drums outside my window waking up my 2 and 4 year olds. We have only been here 5 hrs and I am already contemplating going home early. read more

Unorganized and over sold rooms for a wedding we were invited to. Shuttle takes forever to go back and forth to the sister resort next door. We waited over an hour. It's all inclusive but you have to pay for top shelf liquor and also certain foods like the steak and lobster. So it really NOT all inclusive if that's the case. Drinks watered down and terrible! There was no top lock on our room door and the door bell didn't work so we never knew when anyone was out there. The light in my parents bathroom was broken and they asked several times but no one came to fix it. I give the food 2/10 very small portions and not very flavorful at all. There is a swamp like smell at the resort as well it literally smells like sewage outside. The beach is NOT swimmable. They say you have a personal butler but they never reach out to you or anything you have to inquire and find them or you're on your own. I really don't like all inclusives anyway but I have NEVER been to one like this. Wedding and reception was beautiful that was the only good thing. Stay at el dorado next door if you must pick between the two it looks 100x better and that's a shame they would even compare the 2. read more

We were extremely disappointed with this property. So much we switched to the sister property next door after two days at this hotel. The property was dirty, nothing worked and the swim up pool water was nasty...just to name a few things. We were placed in the farthest building and we were the only ones in there. For two days the phone didn't work, the elevators in that building were inoperative ( we were on the third floor), the water in the swim up pool was murky ( so we did not swim) and half of the light bulbs were burnt out. Then the room had a very strong musty smell all the time. When we transferred to the El Dorado Royale (which by the way is exceptional), we were actually told the building we were in at Generations hasn't been occupied since the beginning of the COVID outbreak in March. That explains the poor state of the room, building and facilities there. Also there was nothing in the minibar and the snacks in the room had all expired. Don't stay there! read more

I am here currently for my daughter's wedding and there have been issues since we arrived. Our whole wedding party has experienced issues and when we report them, there is not much help to resolve them. The underlying issue is that they overbook the hotel and cannot accommodate any changes with your room if there are issues, which we all had at one level, or another. I have ants in my room, our ceiling fan doesn't work without sounding like it is a LOUD plane that is about to take off. There was bottled water, but no opener. I would NOT recommend this venue for your wedding. There are other resorts that cost WAY LESS with better service. read more

The beach is terrible! There is nowhere to swim, it's all rocks and incredibly shallow. They have a bunch of ugly cement blocks blocking what would be a nice view of the water. If you do go in the water in front of the hotel it's goes up to your calves until you aren't able to go any further without water shoes because of the rocks. The cabanas on the beach are beautiful, the sand is soft. They provide buckets and shovels and once in a while a waiter comes to take your drink order but doesn't come often. The event staff are awesome. They are very accommodating and our kids loved them. They play great music around the pool (careful if you have children who understand words as there are some curse words in the songs that they play). The pool itself is really cold which is refreshing if you're really hot but our kids would only stay in for a minute. We wished that there was a heated pool or hot tub somewhere on the grounds. We were really looking forward to having some pool time on this trip which we didn't get. If you have kids under 4 you can bring them to the kids play area down stairs as long as they're with an adult, it's really well laid out with a ton of toys, a rock wall and a ball pit. If your kids are under 4 they are not allowed to join in on any of the fun activities that they provide (even if their parents are there to help them) that's provided by the staff there which I think is really unfair. My child who is 3 was desperately was looking forward to decorating cookies and joining in on the face painting. I noticed that the women who work there are constantly on their cell phones or talking to each other and completely ignoring the kids. Food is good at the chefs market. The Indian restaurant is alright but we had very long wait for our food. They need at least two more restaurants to try to switch it up so you don't get sick of the food. They need better pool snacks. All they have are pretzels and veggie stick chips. Aside from the playroom staff, the staff in general are very friendly and helpful. The bartenders are really sweet. It would be nice if they offered movies in the room. And earlier entertainment shows rather than one show only at 9pm. As a parent of young kids, it's just too late for our kids to stay up. The hotel offers babysitting at $20 USD per hour per child so that you are able to go to the hotels next door which are adult only. Our first night we put the kids to bed, headed out to our balcony to have a glass of wine and play cards. I closed the balcony door to keep the loud music (from the wedding in the building beside us) down so it wouldn't wake up the kids and the balcony door automatically locked and locked us out. Thankfully we had our cell phones outside with us so we could call the hotel staff to come rescue us. Would've been nice to know that the door automatically locks. We spoke to other guests who stayed here last year as well and they said that they locked themselves out on their balcony as well. No one wants to be locked on a balcony with their small children inside by themselves. It took about 40min to be rescued. The butler staff are exceptional. They are incredibly helpful. They are even willing to go to stores outside of the hotel to get you what you need (obviously at cost). They will make balloon animals for your kids if you ask. And will fill your fridge with drinks, chips, chocolate and pretzels. Any extras are significantly more expensive than you would find anywhere else. The spa's 25min facial is $105 USD which I find outrageous. If you would like a bottle of wine other than what there house wine is, they are an average price of about $100 USD. I think the cheapest was $50 USD. The kids lounge chairs around the fountain are Instagram worthy. The basketball court was fun. The large chess game is also a nice touch. I wouldn't stay here again which is disappointing because the staff tries so hard to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Bad layout. Bad beach. Bad kids room staff and rules. Mediocre food. We took 11 family members there over Christmas The good things are the rooms generous in size but run down. The kids club was outstanding and the 3, 6, 9, and 10 year olds liked it plenty of space Toys games and activities. A negative is that many activities tennis Pickleball archery are off limits except for adults. There is no hot tub and pool too cold. The swim up even colder no one could use it. The ping pong had no balls and staff could not find any. The beach has coral but rocky for young kids The food situation was horrible. The told us no available dinner reservations and showing up created an ugly argument to get served. We never were allowed in the wine kitchen so just 2 dinner places. When you finally argued your way to get seated the place was mostly empty just awful. So was the food for the most part. Perhaps they want bribes to give you service. Where do I start !! AVOID Generations is marketed as family friendly resort ! What a load of crap, they said to us just put the children in kids club and enjoy next door adult resort. Food choices are very poor, 3 with a buffet which can be closed at any time if a private function is booked. There is no children play area and only one bar open at night to relax in which becomes adult only! Do not visit this resort. The quality for price does not match. When booking a 2 bedroom, the resort really means "2 connecting hotel rooms". There are only partial walls between sleeping space, living space, and bathrooms. You read that right, no solid walls enclosing the bathrooms. The pool pumps loud music all day. The design of the resort echos sound into each room. Good luck relaxing or taking a nap. Kids can only eat at 2 of the 10 restaurants on the property. No exceptions here. You need to climb up or down a step to enter every room, bathroom, or restaurant. The property does not meet ADA standards. Good luck with a stroller or walker. Also the ocean is terrible. They built an artificial reef about 25 yards off the coast so you get look at beautiful concrete blocks and sand bags all day. You will be unable to swim due to these large blockades. read more

So my husband and I have never been to Mexico so we decided to plan a visit in the Cancun/Playa del Carmen area. We ended up choosing to stay here at Generations and we are so glad that we did! Upon arrival to the hotel we were greeted with champagne and outstanding hospitality. Yemil was extremely helpful with all of our questions and concerns since it was our first time in Mexico! Our room was way beyond our expectations! We stayed in a one bedroom suite on the first level with access to their "balcony swim out infinity pool". My husband and I were just in awe! Aside from Yemil, we also had Andres, David, and Francisco who were all so helpful in planning our anniversary dinner celebration! They went way beyond our expectations in making our celebration so memorable. They planned our candle light dinner overlooking the water and even had a romantic set up in our room, with champagne and a warm bath waiting for us when we finished our dinner. The hospitality in this resort is just amazing! The views were beautiful. My husband and I were big fans of their beach daybeds/cabanas. It was so relaxing and we could have stayed there all day long. We also had a butler who waited on us while we lounged around! What amazing service! This was also our first time in an all-inclusive resort so we had no idea what we were in for. The food was amazing! Everything was gourmet! What's great about this resort is we had access to the restaurants in the next two properties, El Dorado Casitas Royale & El Dorado Royale (which are adults only). Generations is kid friendly. We especially loved our meals at the Wine Kitchen, Fuentes, Santa Fe Grill, D'Itallia, La Isla, and Jojo's just to name a few. Overall, we would recommend this place to anyone! Where do I start? We booked this vacation a year ago for our family of four. We were sold on the Swim up pools and the aesthetics of the resort. We were also told about the all inclusive which was extremely expensive but we decided to buy it anyway at $3500 for a total of four people. We arrived and the location was very beautiful and we were immediately introduced to our personal concierge. Our room was not available so we were invited to eat at the palms restaurant which was mediocre at best. The service was excellent and the view of the beach was a zero at best and not that beautiful. There was seaweed that covered the entire shore and there were several workers working along the shore continuously to pull it out of the water with large Fork like rakes. This went on for 7 days, the entire time we were there, which made the beach unusable. The water was very clear and blue about a mile out but it was otherwise dirty and rocky. So no swimming or good pictures. There are also these huge boulders of rocks about 30 feet out that were strategically placed in a weird manner to help with breaks in the waves I guess. This made the beach look even that much worse. We did take advantage of the restaurants on site however our concierge continued to tell us to go to a neighboring property called Casitas and El Dorado. Those were very nice resorts and are somehow associated with generations. The staff at generations was very kind however there was a sense of always being followed which was very weird. Whenever we walked around to explore the property, they were there. I'd like to say that it was because they wanted to be helpful but it actually became a bit eerie to always see a worker pop up no matter what floor we were on. Here's an example: We're at the beach in a Bali relaxing and we have a particular server. We decide to go to take a walk to the rooftop to look around, take pictures and explore. We turn around and our server from the beach is standing there (on the 8th floor- Rooftop) watching us. That's Super weird! We went back down to our Bali on the beach and there she is again. We joked about her being everywhere, but in all honesty, it was done just to lighten the strange atmosphere. Now let's talk drinks. I would give them a -1 at best. They were absolutely watered down and the sweetener was not regular sugar it was more of a Stevia or NutraSweet which made the drinks taste not so good. I was also very surprised to see how cheap plastic cups were being rinsed out and reused for guest consumption. Even to the point of where the logo was wearing off the cups! We did enjoy our beautiful room which was an upgrade. It had all amenities and it was very beautiful and comfortable. The refrigerators came equipped with bottled water, bottled beer, sodas and snacks. The only thing that we didn't like were the humongous grasshoppers that sat outside of your door when you exit or enter. One actually flew in my hair and that was a fiasco within itself. Although comical, it's worth noting that if you are afraid of bugs or 4 inch long grasshoppers, you may want to avoid this. The staff does assure you that they are harmless. We did travel into town for shopping. You can expect to pay about $40 for the trip. Make sure to wear your seatbelt because the drivers don't seem to pay much attention to the speed limit. Also make sure to have transportation set up going to and from the resort when you arrive and depart from the resort. Our concierge did not confirm our departure from generations which caused us to have to take a taxi at a cost of $60 from the resort to the airport. We are still trying to get reimbursement for this because we had already paid in advance for transportation to the airport. And let's talk about our concierge. I'll give him a four out of 10. He was somewhat available and disappeared for a day where we couldn't find him and he would not respond to us. He would text me periodically to make sure that things were going well and the moment that I brought a minor issue to his attention he disappeared and communicated with me became little to none. This likely explains why our transportation to the airport was not set up. This trip was relaxing and the entertainment was just OK. Sidenote... Thanks JJ for embarrassing our family in front of everyone by loudly removing us from what you called a VIP table for "special guests" for dinner at the pool. None of the tables were labeled VIP. I actually thought that we were VIPs since we paid $3500 extra for an all inclusive that really wasn't an all inclusive. You have to pay extra for Lobster and other food and specialty drinks. In closing. We travel to different countries often but we'll put a X in the box for this one as a NO. Thanks to the pool crew for turning on the music and making this place seem alive. False and Misleading Advertising Generations' website promotes this resort as a family friendly beach experience with 20 restaurants. Displayed prominently on the website is a picture of a beautiful beach. The website emphasizes the all-inclusive nature of the experience. One believes that all alcohol and wine are included. All these claimed advantages of Generations are FALSE, or at best very misleading. Here are the facts. 1. The beach was washed out in a hurricane and now they have World War II, Normandy beach type breakfronts trying to reclaim the beach. What is left of the beach is very rocky and quite unsuitable for kids. So instead of playing on the beach, the kids must play in the pool, which looks fun, but is unheated. So little kids can only stay in the water for 15-20 minute before they freeze. All 3 to 5 star resorts resolve the frozen kid problem induced by not heating their pools by having several hot tubs scattered around where the little ones can warm up before returning to the big pool. Generations has NO (zero) hot tubs/spas to regain body heat. 2. The all-inclusive alcohol policy consists of 7 free wines: 4 reds and 3 whites. So unless you want to drink the same Cab or chardonnay at every meal every day, be prepared to buy wines off of their extensive, but super jacked up priced wine list. Spending $100 a night for a decent bottle of wine fails their "all-inclusive" ad pitch. Also, the rooms only have beer. If you want a drink or a glass of wine in your room, you must order it from room service, or buy a bottle at inflated prices. 3. While the website states 20 restaurants are available on site, only 3 restaurants allow kids for dinner. Adjacent to the Generations is its sister resort called El Dorado that has the bulk of the 20 restaurants. But El Dorado is adults only and if you have kids, El Dorado won't let you and your kids onto the property to eat. They even kick you off their beach if you try to walk it with your kids. So staying at the Generations, the only beach walking you can do is a couple of hundred yards directly in front of the Generations. The Generation staff is very friendly and tries hard. The food at the only three dinner restaurants we could take the kids was for the most part good. Some dishes were much better than others. We complained about points 1-3, and they gave us a couple of bottles of wine in our room. Too bad we were tired of drinking the same cab by then. They also tried to address the problems with a lovely private dinner. Unfortunately, they really can't overcome the physical limitations of no beach, no heated pool, no hot tubs, and no access to El Dorado. Generations is a beautiful resort without a doubt. The property is well maintained and the staff are professional and accommodating. 5 stars for the staff alone. However, beware of the all-inclusive fee bait and switch! We came here with friends that used Interval International to book our rooms, who in turn turned the reservation over to Exotics travel that is located onsite at Generations. When we checked in we were told that we needed to pay the all-inclusive fee of $1170 for 5 days directly to the Exotics office, but since they were closed for the day, we could pay it the next morning. I asked the front desk clerk to confirm the amount and write it down. She wrote $1170. The next day we went to the Exotics office and they charged my card $1770! When questioned about the discrepancy we were given a vague response. So, instead of going round and round with them, I decided I'd take this up again at the front desk. The young lady at the front desk checked her computer for our reservation and again confirmed that the charge should be $1170. Even she was perplexed by the different charge and stated it was more than their current rate. I asked her to please write it down again and sign her name. She said she would contact the Exotics office to clear up the matter. A couple days later, I check my credit and see they charged me $1770! So I called to the front desk and requested that the General Manager, Enrique Olvera, contact me. He did not, which I mentioned to the front desk. Later that day, Exotics contacted me and gave me a song and dance about how it was a computer keying error and the charge is $1770. This is bull, because on the Generations website, Costco and Expedia the all-inclusive fee for our dates were ALL between $1100-$1200! Again I requested to speak to the GM....no response! So, instead of letting this issue ruin my vacation, I decided I'll deal with this with my credit card company later. Note to GM Enrique Olvera: there is no need to respond to this review with the cut and past condescending response that is given to all the reviews on TripAdvisor. As a matter of basic customer service you should have reached out to us and settled this matter. Either Exotics is padding the fee or something slick is going on here. I wish this issue had not tainted my stay, because other than being ripped off I had a nice time. read more

The staff is very friendly and helpful, at least the ones that understand enough english. But...room service, when they answer, was pretty horrible. They take over any hour to bring your food (breakfast), maybe that's because they are understaffed or extremely busy. Although I didn't see many people in the hotel at this time, being it's summer and I'm assuming it's their off season. When the food finally arrived, (breakfast again) it was absolutely horrible. The eggs which were ordered over medium, arrived over-extra hard. The home fries, that's what they call them, but were actually tater tots, where so over fried, or maybe they had been sitting under a heating lamp for a looooong time. The hotcakes were horrible tasting. It's right there at Generations, but they had mahi-mahi with gnocchi on the menu. It was so horrible, I couldn't even eat it. The hotel is noisy, especially when you're trying to sleep at night. You can hear people running up and down stairs, talking, doors slamming. It wasn't very pleasant. I couldn't wait to come home. I will not return. As a matter of fact, I didn't find Cancun to be all that great. At least in the summer. You can't go in the water because there is so much seaweed. And it's extremely hot and the humidity is unbearable. I don't see what the big deal is with this place. Why people rave about it so much. read more

Checked in on 10/15/19 and must say things were ok. I have come to Mexico numerous times and stayed at excellent resorts. For the price we paid for a swim-up suite, I'm not impressed. Check in was very bad and they made us wait 1hour and 15 minutes to check in at 3pm. Finally we got to our room to no luggage and a faulty safe. I had to call twice for my luggage. The room was ok but has mold on the light fixture. Restaurant are ok, nothing to write home about. No turndown service was done and the butler always wanted to talk to his friends. Nightlife, forget it. They said they had a club and they do not. Told us to go to Dorado and nothing until 10pm. The beach is horrible since it has rocks so you can't swim in it. Our experience at Generations this past March was absolutely amazing in every way. We enjoyed our stay so much. The room was gorgeous and always cleaned. It was spacious and had all we needed. The grounds were amazing and well kept up. The food was delicious and the staff was AMAZING. First, our butlers, Luna and Melissa were by far the best butlers we have ever had, they were attentive to our every need and made the vacation truly one to remember. They took care of everything and anticipated everything we might need which was so fabulous. Their customer service was by far top notch and the resort is lucky to have them. We dealt with Josselin as well and she was also so great (she was part of exotic travelers on site). She was helpful and always there to check on us to make sure our stay was going well. The staff that did all of the activities at the pool and beach were really wonderful. They would come over and ask my 8 year old to play and would play on the beach with her. She was so content and happy. I highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a great place to relax and have a really wonderful family vacation.
