I've tried a lot of barber shops, salons, etc. around town trying to find the right place where after I go for a while, they know me, how I like my hair cut, and can just sit down to relax while they cut my hair. I've finally found that here at Derby City...and knew it when I came home the first time I got a cut there and my wife said, "That's the best haircut you've had in a LONG time...you look sharp." I love the fusion of old barber shop, hip and new, and the old school references in the decor around the shop. It's comfortable and inviting...a man's man place to get a great haircut! I should have know there was something special about this place my first time here when I arrived about 15 minutes before they opened and there was already a line of guys 8 deep waiting at the door. My ONLY complaint would be...I wish you could call ahead or log in online to either schedule an appointment or place yourself in line. Overall, if you need to look sharp for any occasion...stop in, it's worth the wait!

Bad review for Nick at Derby City Chop Shop:…read more I've been going to Derby City Chop Shop for a while and usually work with Patrik, who has always been great. Today I called because the online booking system was not working for me, and I was trying to make an appointment. Nick answered the phone and immediately acted annoyed that I even called. Instead of helping, he told me my phone was "the only phone in the world" not working and basically blamed me for the issue. When I asked if there was another way to schedule an appointment, he cut me off and said, "Listen buddy, I don't have time for this right now. Can you come in in 15 minutes or not?" The entire conversation was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional from start to finish. I even had to ask multiple times just to get his name because he refused to give it at first. I can honestly say after that interaction, I would never let Nick anywhere near my hair with a pair of scissors. Customer service like that is unacceptable, especially for someone representing a business people are supposed to feel comfortable walking into.

The decor was fun and eclectic and the whole atmosphere was solid barbershop, just a bunch of good peeps sitting around telling stories. The cut affordable. If I ever make it back here, I'll definitely hit this joint up.

A hurried schedule between two people does not warrant a 3 star drop at all. I apologize for this. Anna does amazing work. I did not realize Yelp would ditch my entire 5 star review on 18/8's phenomenal work. The following was a one-time experience during a busy week. It should not reflect on the business as a while. Therefore I updated my rating as I thought it would average them out. Completely my fault. I had a client dinner at 7 and wanted a cut. They had a 4 and 6:30 with the girl I wanted. I asked for the 4, but i mentioned, I would call if by some crazy scenario my afternoon photo shoot went wrong. They are "too busy for last minute cancellations" Seriously? I wasn't cancelling just giving a remote possibility to be rather up front. Obviously can't do 6:30 appt with a 7pm client dinner. He can cancel on me any time. He is my "client" As an update. I made it to my 3:45 hair appointment with another salon. I would have gladly given a credit card for a missed appointment. Because I do understand time is money.
